wcw was total junk in its dying days. i cant believe people forget that. the whole nwo, wolfpac stuff ran its course and they had nothing else to carry them. people keep saying time warner and aol merger killed wcw but no that was the bullet to the head to put wcw out of its misery. they paid so many guys so much money and their ratings werent near what they were when nwo was going strong. imo if wcw was doing that still maybe aol/time warner wouldnt have sold.
WCW was the Greatest Wrestling Promotion to ever Exist! The question of who or what killed WCW will be forever unanswered, perhaps because their is no solid answer.
There's no escaping the fact that Time Warner didn't want the company so approached Vince with an absolute gem of an offer in WWE's opinion.
However...had WCW not made sooo many crazy decisions in the latter few years of it's existance, it may have never been in the position to be considered to be sold. WCWnWo.com
Also remember, the Turner organisation were never big on wrestling either (apart from Ted himself) it's just WCW was making them sh!tloads of money at one point. So they wouldn't consider selling. Had WCW been financially as great in 2001 as it had been in 1998, then in my opinion Time Warner wouldn't have sold.
For everything World Championship Wrestling, visit WCWnWo.com
@bongboy6969 No, when Sting came to the ring with the entire NWO in it with his bat, then threw the bat out of the ring and kicked all their asses, that was the best moment in wrestling history. Made my asshole pucker. So no I'm not on drugs I just liked WcW better.
@Swype87 Fuck that I knew adults that hadn't been watching wrestling since they were a kid and started watching wrestling again because of Goldberg. I remember when he Jackhammered the Big Show and held him up there. Who the fuck could do that?
actually time Warner was owned by ted turner. Its was his company. He sold Time Warner to AOL who your right wanted nothing to do with a wrestling company. And bischoff was not just some announcer dude they made the boss. When WCW was offically born he was put in charge because he had a wrestling background and did pr for time warner
@NodTAnep That is right if it was not for AOL and their stupid decissions WCW would be the dominant wrestling organization today. Well everything happens for a reason and maybe it was time to move on. At least we have TNA so we get some variety in our wrestling shows.
No No No No... Eric, Russo, Hogan, or any other wrestler named DID NOT KILL WCW......
If you go back to history....Ted Turner sold everything to Time Warner, in time Time Warner DID NOT want WCW or any wrestling in their lineups so they went to McMahon and practically begged him to buy WCW.
So again TIME WARNER KILLED WCW..How much did Vince pay for almost 30 years of great memories and videos you ask??
4.5 Million that's it.....So now we have to sit through WWE garbage each week
@texasguy10209 thank you so much texas guy! Finally someone knows what he is talking about! I hate when people say Vince or Bischoff killed WCW. They are just repeating what they heard with no research.
So the fact WCW kept going to the WWE has beens and never created any new stars themselves had nothing to do with it right? Name one person WCW pushed not named goldberg. Just one?
@fireheartis1 ric flair was already champ sting was already at the top kevin nash was from wwe hogan was already a made man....i think your missing the point what i am asking is name wrestlers that WCW had from the get go that they pushed to the top only ones are Booker T and Goldberg. They never made their own stars only gave the belts and big shows to the ones that already were stars from the WWE.
@2WIREG Now that I think of it you are right. Many of the stars they promoted where from WWE. I also think if they would have promoted the Cruiser Weights better it would still be around. Great job on pointing this out to me I never realized it until now.
@texasguy10209 they mite not of killed wcw, but they made it watered down and boring after doing the nwo crap toooo long and not to mention copying wwf, so no they didnt kill it, there just the reason every stopped watching it, and if Vince didnt buy it, they still wud've went out of business...
the management was a mess, but they wouldnt have gone out of business, there were enough ppl willing to buy wcw for the price vince payed for it, they had the talent, with just smart businessmen running it it could have been wwf who went out of business, offcourse i would have preferred for both of them to stay around, good competition brings a good product, now there is no pressure
This was when WCW was great, before Bischoff and Russo killed it. I liked WCW waaaaay better than WWF(E). I hardly ever watched Raw during the Monday Night Wars. WCW was awesome before Bischoff and Russo. Bischoff was an announcer who was handed the job as owner simply because he was already in the company. He had the announcer job/interviewer job because no one else wanted it.
I can't praise wcw enough great show, great entertainment. If i lived in a perfect world wcw would still be around and i be at ringside cheering on sting to win the championship title.Much Love WCW
I wonder what WCW would be like in 2009 if it hadn't been sold. TNA probably wouldn't exist. Would Flair still be there wrasslin' Sting? Hogan would still have gone to WWE I think. The ratings war would be in full swing again, giving all of us fans some actual ENTERTAINMENT like we used to get :D
Well, you have to remember that around 1999 it started getting really bad and lost a lot of its following. Look at the 2000 Halloween Havoc matches/results. I was a WCW guy from 1990-1999 until I kinda quit watching pro wrestling and I wish it had kept right on going, but I'm not sure how much longer it would have lasted.
@raw1981 No WWF would still have been called WWE today. Why? The reason is in 2003 The WWF {The World wide wildlife federation} sued the WWF for the name rights. In the lawsuit which we know now the WWF {World wrestling federation} lost.
So that's the facts behind the whole WWF/WWE thing.
the wcw 1996 to 1998 was amazing the last few days hitting nwo stuff ect on you tube made me sad. Because it's over man HHH is BS I hate the scripted WWE shit. On Nitro anything could happen and did. RIP 4 life brothers
2:19: That's my favorite version of Sting's facepaint. Not just the colors, but the design. He had several different patterns during the crow days. That one gave him a sadder look that went nicely with the betrayal felt by the character. He later changed it to where there were two stripes running up the sides of his eyes instead of the one starting in the center. That one made him look too angry.
the thing with wwe is its all about money vince makes money off others hard work its not him in the ring putting his live on the line for the fans to me wcw and tna was about the fans tna ask the fans wcw 4 life
WCW was great like the WWF in the early 80s to the early 90s. WWF was full of shit 1993-1997, then WCW started to suck big time 1997-till it died. Since 2000 till now WWE has become the biggest crap on television today :)
I agree to a point. I got into wrestling in the early 90's (WcW, WWF) and I was ALWAYS a WcW fan over WWF. Then they started to merge the two and star each wrestler on the other show and thats when it all went down hill for myself. Today wrestling is NOTHING like it was 10 years ago. WcW im my opinion was and still is the best there was and is. It went down hill in the late 90's 99-00ish.
Yeah I really liked WCW style too, although, I didn't get interested in WCW until the end of 1992 when the WWF had lost all it's biggest names. Now I search on YouTube for pre 1993 WCW and I think it was way better than what it became when they started having all the former WWF stars
90s pro wrestling the best thing ever the entire art form caught the world by storm i truly believe my entire school was watching weekly as the wwf battled wcw as the anti heros of the nwo dx stone cold steve austin the rock mick foley even classic heros like goldberg ddp ric flair the list goes on then in 2001 it was over for me at least it just became like so of what but it was great it!!!
the promotion that brought us sting, goldberg, the nwo, and company that stole the biggest icon in pro wrestling from the wwf hulk hogan RIP world championship wrestling Thanks for the memories!!!!!!
yout all completely wrong. WCW was better then WWE today, but it was never better than WWF's attitude era. Think about it, WCW beat WWF in ratings for like 24 weeks strait or sumthing, well on that 24th week the attitude era was born and till this day wwe leads in ratings. think about that
