The acting of Brad Douriff is just unreal in this movie. I'm a big horror movie fan and i'm not exaggerating by saying this could be in my personal top 5 or even top 3 of my all time favorite horror movies. Its shockingly underrated, like most horror movies. (Session 9 or Jacob's Ladder for example.)

Unfortunately for Blatty and for the fans who had been clamoring for such a release, the footage was never found.
You know, "The Exorcist" gets all the praise and attention, as it should. But I always thought "This time, you're going to lose" was far more chilling than "Your mother sucks cock in hell", even though that line was perfect in its own context.

Blatty even tried to convince them to alter it to "Exorcist 1990" in order to distance it from Exorcist II: The Heretic, which he despised, but had to settle for "Exorcist III" notwithstanding.
@guns4hire2000 It should ignore part II. The second movie tried to cash in on the success of the first. But the story was weak to say the least. Do yourself a favor and watch part III. It follows the first Exorcist just enough to make the story that much more interesting. It is about the devils revenge against all involved in the exorcism of Regan MacNeil.
for years paramount denied that any of the uncut Friday the 13th footage still existed, I can promise you Morgan Creek just doesn't give a fuck about this movie not that they lost the footage they just dont care.
@Darkness6678 There are attempts to put together a restored version of the film, with the original ending. Ideally for Blu-Ray. So far, no one can locate the footage. Blatty has a lot of fans. If Morgan Creek had let him just made the film without botching the ending, they wouldn't have need to find the footage in the first place. As for Paramount, that footage had been in Paramount's east coast storeage mine for years. Nobody had bothered to go down there and look.
As a huge fan of The Exorcist,I was so disappointed with the 2nd one,The Heretic.But the 3rd,Legion reinstated my faith in the 'franchise'.I have all 5 films,and Legion,along with The Exorcist remain the superior of the group.The scene where the sweet,batty old woman crawls across the ceiling was amazing!Oh,& the sheet-draped character crossing the corridor junction carrying the huge surgical shears,hell,I almost pissed myself,lol.A worthy sequel to The Exorcist.Wish I could get hold of the book
this is one of the most scary movies i have seen, probably it would be more well-known if it wasn't a "sequel" especially a "third" sequel, most people probably just assume it's schlock
A terribly underrated movie! I agree with everyone who said the "Exorcist 3" title needed to be dropped and the movie should have been released as "Legion" (the official sequel to The Exorcist). I went to see this with a jaundiced eye but I came out feeling that it was one hell of a good movie. It's really too bad that it tanked. Go see it!!

This film should have been done the way it reads in the original "Legion" novel.There was no Satan in that book, and there was a key character by the name of Dr. Amfortas from the book who was not included in the film version.If Father William O' Malley had reprised his "Father Dyer" role from "The Exorcist", it would have been a real bonus too.

You've seen them all and you still think they all suck ass? I don't like the second one at all, but my mother does. It's just seems kind of foolish to just say the sequels just suck ass. I absolutely love the third one. I enjoy it more than the first actually. Three to me just seems to move along at a different pace and is more my style.

This movie was actually a whole lot better than expected, even without the Fucksorcist II - The Heretic, and when you hold it up to the two Prequels, it truly is worthy of the original, even if it doesn't quite have the shock value
@zabreth Hey, Exorcist II: The Heretic was a fine film; just because it was weird and artistic, and took a different direction than the first, does not mean it was bad. It has some of the most mind-blowing and beautiful imagery as well as a fascinating story.

i'm confused. everyones saying that the demon at the end of this movie was Pazuzu (demon from the exorcist) but it can't have been, their personalities were really differnt. pazuzu is more evil, violent, crazy and a lot more energetic. whereas the demon in this was calm, had a soft voice, and spoke really differntly. or was he acting differnet because he was in karras and not regan?? answers please!
The demon allowed the sadistic gemini killer almost complete concious control of the host body, even during the final exorcism scene.
The gemini killer had a "calm" sociopathic personality. The possesion was more passive, like how it was portrayed in the simular 97 movie "Fallen" than in the original exorcist flick.
I love the head morph stuff as it's all done in camera with makeup, editing and physical movement. CGI just couldn't get this effect as it's too slick. That's the trouble with most recent horror. They try to show everything because they can make everything.
originally Blatty wanted to title this Legion just as the novel's, but the studio company wants to associate it with the exorcist trilogy or so called.. i have the novel for the first film.. can't find "legion" though.. a rarity here on my country...
...the EXORCIST 2 wasn't so good...I expect that it will be more scarier than the 1st Exorcist but it discouraged me...this movie is more scarier than the 2nd one, but it's still worth watching for...
This was a very good movie and you have to watch it with absolute silence because there's several times where a slight sound appears and is very important and leaves you with some goosebumps.
Brad Dourif as The Gemini is EXCELLENT! Just to watch him in his 2 scenes is worth the cost of renting this.

Hey, I've received my copy of Exorcist 3, and watched it. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!! I was nearly crying at the end though, when Damien was shot by Kinderman. I really wanted Karras to get rid of Pazuzu for good, walk out, and start a whole new life, But that wouldn't have been so dramatic!!

i remember that bit in the original vhs release, the other cut was the scene with the evil statue that morphs when george c.scott walks past it. the movie was on tv a few years back and those scenes were included but the new dvd has been cut.
the reason im confused is in 90/91 when part 3 came out, it was pretty much uncut and the film got its certificate without any hassle, so why would warner bros buy the rights from fox and cut those scenes out now, i bought the excorcist complete antholgy(all 5 films) and bought another part 1(directors cut) cause the part 1 in the set is the standard film, and can't believe they cut scenes from 3, maybe a directors cut for 3 is due. as for part 2, they should have just cut the lot, it's shit.
yeah the dvd release seems to have been cut, the vhs release had a few scenes which were even featured in the trailer, so i't doesn't really make sense as part 1 was banned and is now avalible with even more scenes and effects.

i just watched the 3rd part again, as i type this, and from what i gather father karras did'nt go insane, he was basically a port from which evil left, with himself trapped with them. like a split personality, the father the good, the demons the bad.
the good father was sane, if i say anymore then it will spoil the film for anyone who hasn't seen it. i noticed that a few things were cut from the dvd version of part 3, i don't understand why they would cut those few scenes out, especially as the scenes weren't that bad to begin with, i remember some specific scenes that i saw on video and tv which where cut out of this, bah. must be the whole warner vs fox thing but why would that matter, im confused.
exorcist 3 is availible as a box set from amazon online, it has all 5 movies, i just got mine last week, part 3's problem was that warner bros bought the rights from fox so they could release the complete anthology, hope that helps. p.s. you can buy the set for around £8.00 (definatley worth the cash).
remember aftere the 1st when karras jumped out the window, he squeezed the dudes hand for last rights, so it's possible he never "died" this TOTALLY should have been the 2nd installment, watchin locust fly in the sequel and lights flashing for hypnosis was PAINFULL!!!

Not true stories, per se. The first movie was based on a book which was "inspired" by an exorcism which allegedly took place in the U.S. back in the 30's or '40's.
I know I looked it up, and read the story of Robbie, it is VERY similar to the original exorcist. I watched this one. Also I like the use of the serial killer in it, it sounds like they were using the Zodiac killer as a way to make it sound better.
Brad Dourif was amazing in this film.

I love the head morph stuff as it's all done in camera with makeup, editing and physical movement. CGI just couldn't get this effect as it's too slick. That's the trouble with most recent horror. They try to show everything because they can make everything.

originally Blatty wanted to title this Legion just as the novel's, but the studio company wants to associate it with the exorcist trilogy or so called.. i have the novel for the first film.. can't find "legion" though.. a rarity here on my country...

...the EXORCIST 2 wasn't so good...I expect that it will be more scarier than the 1st Exorcist but it discouraged me...this movie is more scarier than the 2nd one, but it's still worth watching for...
no one can beat the original EXORCIST!

This was a very good movie and you have to watch it with absolute silence because there's several times where a slight sound appears and is very important and leaves you with some goosebumps.
Brad Dourif as The Gemini is EXCELLENT! Just to watch him in his 2 scenes is worth the cost of renting this.

This film should have been the direct sequel (not "THE HERETIC" which was absolutely awful). I like this trailer. It gave me chills. The film is prettly good too.

Just realised it wasn't Pazuzu in Karras, but the Gemini Killer. How come Karras wanted to die at the end? Was he scared the spirit would come back, or that he wouldn't get out of the hospital?

Hey, I've received my copy of Exorcist 3, and watched it. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!! I was nearly crying at the end though, when Damien was shot by Kinderman. I really wanted Karras to get rid of Pazuzu for good, walk out, and start a whole new life, But that wouldn't have been so dramatic!!

i remember that bit in the original vhs release, the other cut was the scene with the evil statue that morphs when george c.scott walks past it. the movie was on tv a few years back and those scenes were included but the new dvd has been cut.

the reason im confused is in 90/91 when part 3 came out, it was pretty much uncut and the film got its certificate without any hassle, so why would warner bros buy the rights from fox and cut those scenes out now, i bought the excorcist complete antholgy(all 5 films) and bought another part 1(directors cut) cause the part 1 in the set is the standard film, and can't believe they cut scenes from 3, maybe a directors cut for 3 is due. as for part 2, they should have just cut the lot, it's shit.

yeah the dvd release seems to have been cut, the vhs release had a few scenes which were even featured in the trailer, so i't doesn't really make sense as part 1 was banned and is now avalible with even more scenes and effects.

i just watched the 3rd part again, as i type this, and from what i gather father karras did'nt go insane, he was basically a port from which evil left, with himself trapped with them. like a split personality, the father the good, the demons the bad.

the good father was sane, if i say anymore then it will spoil the film for anyone who hasn't seen it. i noticed that a few things were cut from the dvd version of part 3, i don't understand why they would cut those few scenes out, especially as the scenes weren't that bad to begin with, i remember some specific scenes that i saw on video and tv which where cut out of this, bah. must be the whole warner vs fox thing but why would that matter, im confused.

exorcist 3 is availible as a box set from amazon online, it has all 5 movies, i just got mine last week, part 3's problem was that warner bros bought the rights from fox so they could release the complete anthology, hope that helps. p.s. you can buy the set for around £8.00 (definatley worth the cash).

remember aftere the 1st when karras jumped out the window, he squeezed the dudes hand for last rights, so it's possible he never "died" this TOTALLY should have been the 2nd installment, watchin locust fly in the sequel and lights flashing for hypnosis was PAINFULL!!!

william peter blatty wrote the first film and william freidkin directed, the 3rd part was written and directed by william peter blatty, and the events that occured are true, except it was a boy not a girl that was possessed.

the first part this cradle in history in a mental hospital where all died as much doctors, henfermeras, priests and the patient and other is only continuations of the director the second part is ugly but episode 1 and parte1 and 3 are the best ones I recommend that you see profesia you 1.2.3, the 4 is not very good

Not true stories, per se. The first movie was based on a book which was "inspired" by an exorcism which allegedly took place in the U.S. back in the 30's or '40's.

I know I looked it up, and read the story of Robbie, it is VERY similar to the original exorcist. I watched this one. Also I like the use of the serial killer in it, it sounds like they were using the Zodiac killer as a way to make it sound better.
