Very few heavyweights can go out into the fighting after loosing all 12 rounds, and after being knocked out in earlier rounds, come rushing out in the 13th round with your nose split in 2 pieces, burs ted eyebrow skin and a bloodied face, and fight with the same heart and consistency at you did in the first round! He knocks out the guy in the 13th round.
There was nothing impressive about marciano boxing. But he had great defense, and little illusive movments that made him great. What he lacked in size he made up for in heart and courage.
For all of you Ali cocksuckers out there saying "Ali wouldnt just stand there and take punches, hes much too fast" .. Bite a dick. Marciano would take 2 punches to give 1. Also consider 1 of Marcianos punches equalls like 3 of Alis.
Shut up with the Rocky Marciano dodged fighters. Rocky would of fought anyone. Al Weill dodged fighters not Rocky. BTW Al was is manager. Trust me i read his biography.
@killpolitics BULLSHIT MARCIANO BECAME THE GREATEST BECAUSE OF THE JOE LOUIS FIGHT AND THE ONLY REASON HE WON THAT IS BECAUSE JOE LOUIS WAS LIKE 84 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME IF HE HAD CAUGHT LOUIS IN HIS PRIME HIS RAINE AS CHAMPION WOULD HAVE NEVER BEGAN
@SoIoLoVoEoRoBoAoCoK lol if you saw a few fights of marciano then obviously he could have taken joe's punches.yes Joe Louis would work him but i doubt that he could have knocked Marciano out or even beat him.
a lot of top fighters can anticipate which direction you are going to lean, but no one in the heavies could do it quite the way Louis could. Joe Louis had killer timing and anticipation skills, in addition to the deadliest one two combo in heavyweight history. He could hit hard with any type of punch, but especially dangerous was that most rudimentary of all boxing combos.
@pillsburydoughboy47 Joe louis - Marciano doesent fight by the book, but i got hit by a library tonight.
Joe louis - no matter what my age was marciano would have beaten me at any stage of my career.
Marciano v Louis on their best night & in peak condition - who wins we will never know, but hell what a fight it would have been, better than Marciano v Ali any day of the week, same goes for Liston.
Charles could hit hard, but he was no Joe Louis. Had Marciano been the victim of Joe Louis uppercuts, or downward punching Joe Louis one-two combos (Louis' right cross was very deadly), Marciano would have gotten his ass kicked. Leaning forward the way he did, would have made him vulnerable either to a very dangerous, direct right cross straight to the temple, or an uppercut from a very bad angle. One of the things Louis was good at, was anticipating where you were going to lean.
Also; Marciano and Frazier shared the same weakness, they both leaned forward way, way too much. The reason Ezzard Charles split open Marciano's nose, is because Charles saw that weakness, Charles threw a shitload of uppercuts because Marciano leaned forward entirely too much. Although he didn't beat him, he managed to damage him enough to go the distance their first fight, the punch that split Marciano's nose was a missed uppercut.
I'm a Marciano fan myself, but a prime Joe Louis would have kicked his ass; Marciano himself said he put everything he had in his actual fight with Louis, and it still took him 8 rounds. Louis was old too man, old and banged up.
also, if you will observe carefully, Marciano had an "I smell blood" mode. He had a sixth sense for when his opponents got hurt, and that is when the "mass assault" would start.
Rocky reminds me of a Pitbull on crack. Tough as nail, he can take a lickin and keep on tickin. He was as strong as a gorilla and in order to beat the guy you were going to have to kill him.
Does anyone els here think that back then, the fighting wasent as evolved as we have today. That you could become pro in those days easily only if you had a coach from the 20th century. Like for example if you look at old football videos when it just started, that the athletes aren't really good and that they dont have as good technique's; since we evolved by watching whats good and whats bad
I run a MMA gym and have been boxing for years. I'm the same size and build as Rocky 5'9" 180-190lbs. Having fought over a hundred people I can say that I am stronger for my size than anyone I've ever met but when you have a HW leaning on you, pushing you around and punching you, It's not fun at all. What Marciano did is truly unbelievable. I fought hundreds of guys in the gym and it's just mind blowing that a 5'10" 185lb man can eat these big heavies for lunch. I still cant grasp what he did.
a lot of that is genes; strength is not just determined by muscle size, the factors are
1) density
2) muscle insertion (length of the tendons, short tendons mean stronger torque, long tendons weaker)
3) testosterone levels, not just amount, but how well balanced it is.
4) bone density
5) whether or not the nervous system is naturally wired for muscle integration, that is muscles working as a unit, and not everyone is born with that.
finally there's just raw willpower; Marciano trained for 6 hours a day every day, he threw so many punches during training, in due time he learned to time his hooks perfectly.
marciano wasn't a brawler, although he gives that appearance; each of those assaults was precisely timed and calculated, and all on instinct. If you don't believe me, watch marciano fights in slow motion; you will see he timed all his assaults.
What he did has never been done before or since. He is a middleweight who beat up heavyweights. Marciano fought at HW as low as 178lbs. His heaviest ever for a boxing match was 191.5lbs. He could never make 220lbs and be in reasonable shape. He would have to put 30 lbs or muscle on. He was only 5"10.
Proof is in the pudding. Marciano NEVER lost. Ever. In the 40's and 50's boxing era. Are you kidding? He wasn't the most technically-sound. He certainly wasn't quickest. But he had ONE THING the bum in the past 20 years have not had: HUNGER. He was going to drop you in the ring, or literally die trying. And, he didn't die...did he? He was a freak of nature. An unstoppable mini-tank armed with the most devastating haymaker the Heavyweight Division has ever seen. Pure pudding.
i belive the knocked 3 fellas out in a pub in wales while over ear in ww2 and boxed 4 the army dont care what yer say hes 1 of da best ever and he boxed in this era and didnt get beat
I agree Marciano was a great sports hero . He could still compete today , but at light heavy or cruiser . He would not even attempt fighting todays heavies . It would be ridiculous , Klitschko 6 ft 6 245 pounds I mean let's be real ! Marciano vs Hollyfield at cruiser would be more fair comparison and would have been fun to watch .
Marciano was a great champion and he will always be remembered as one of the toughest and most couragous fighters of all time,BUT, the greatest champion of all time is the great brown bomber JOE LOUIS and i think Rocky would be the first to admit that he was.
Beached whales? That's harsh. Most of todays really big guys are in excellent condition. They just happen to be really big. A guy like Lewis would likely destroy Marciano but you never know. There were some pretty big and scary dudes in Marciano's time as well.
Roland LaStarza is one of the best 15 heavyweights of all time. He fought Marciano to a near-draw in 1950, after having beaten all of his previous opponents. After the SD loss to Marciano, he continued to beat every man he fought, until the rematch with Marciano in 1953. This time, it was a 15-round title fight. LaStarza had never fought more than 10 rounds. He was stopped in the 11th round and his arms were permanently damaged. He could not fight effectively after this.
Rocky just happened to be in the fight game where all the "Greats" were nearing the end of their career.Louis,Walcott,Charles,Moore,Savold all what! 8/10 years older than Rocky.Compared to say,Louis,Dempsey,Johnson,Ali,Lennox,Tyson, they hads ability such as,clever, fast, heavy punchers, and fit. Rocky, small fit and a swinger.
Look at what Frazier did to Ali in the first fight and what he did later on in Manilla. If Frazier could beat Ali so would Rocky. And that 3rd fight in Manilla was hell for Ali just as it was for Frazier. Ali collapsed after the fight.
Another thing is that rocky was known to cut real easly and with ali's quick jab stinking him and then dancing away this guy would have had a real problem with ali. Look at ali in his prime not very many people could have cought him he would have either won on cuts or danced to a UD
Muhammad Ali quote--" I cant believe how strong and how hard Rocky can hit. Marciano was a lot harder to hit with a jab then he looked. I can feel how great Marciano must have been just from being in the ring with him when he was 46 yrs old. I can't imagine what Rocky must have been like in his prime"
Angelo Dundee (Ali's trainer)--Rocky was a decieving guy. He was not that easy to hit"
If Rocky was so slow watch the 2 left hooks that knocked out Harry Kid Matthews. Sure Ali was faster, but Marciano was MUCH stronger. Ali would not have been able to handle the nonstop shots to the body and arms. Truth is, we will never know for sure. Thats a fact.
Rocky was slower on his feet than Ali. Muhammad stood up to george foremens punches one of the biggest punchers of all time Foremen is ranked number nine on the Ring Magazine's list of 100 greatest punchers of all time when rocky is fourteen so i dont think ali would have had a problem with his power
Marcinao was a great fighter no question about that, but I wouldn't call him the greatest. IMO, the greatest fighter of all time is Sugar Ray Robinson. However, when you talk heavyweights, I think the greatest HW would have to be Joe Louis.
What most people don't realize is that rocky wasn't born with much talent unlike Ali or Tyson, he started his career at 26 which is old to start a boxing career and to top that off he had the shortest arm length of any heavy weight boxer ever, he was 5,10 which is very short, and weighed about 185 which was light, hell even at 27 he started balding slightly which made him look like a wash up. But still managed to remain undefeated
i have a question : at 0:14 the commentator sais : Louis looking just a bit tired and marciano just as ''staun'' as ever . what does he sais ? just as ''stawn'' as ever could someone please explane what that means
I feel he, the commentator ment staunch.Which means..Trustworthy,stong and willing.Take your pick.Dont forget this is the American version of English language.
To watch rocky fight is so boring,he is slow but effective, slug slug away at least ali made it look good as far as hard hitters are concerned anyone who knows the fight game will admit foreman in his peak is probably the hardest hitting of them all. Foreman punched frazier so hard in the guts it lifted him of the ground and frazier weighed more than rocky.
Ali would never stand there move and jab, ali fought many like rocky oscar bonavena to mention a few.
Not only that, but Ali didn't make a career of beating over the hill ex champions. Ali is by far the best pound for pound boxer in the history of the sport.
Imagine Ali fighting Frazier. Frazier was a one handed fighter. He hardly threw a right hand. When he did it severely lacked power. Marciano, essentially was a two-handed Frazier. To think that Ali would easily beat Marciano, is ridiculous. Pound for pound? I think Roy Jones and Sugar Ray Robinson got Ali on that.
bigspray, I'll bet you're one of those 14 year olds that has no friends and sits in front of his computer all day thinking up dumb shit to write. If you don't like Rocky, then go to another fucking video. (waiting for dumb ass reply).
i'll bet your one of those 20 year olds who say that your older and looks up info on rocky and reads books about him as much as you spend time wacking off
One of rockys key strengths was his aggressiveness in the ring; he never really went on defense, which is a risky move to try doing. In addition, since rocky was short he made himself even shorter and harder to hit by dipping in to a little crouch and then popping up for a hook.
Which is easy to do when the opponent is a middle age ex boxing champ. I think his key strength, if he had any, is his camp ability to line up such lame bouts.
Wow reading the comments, there are tons of ignorant people trolling around. If rocky isnt a great fighter why do you come to a rocky video and bash him. Exactly you losers get a life.
Actually, you're far more ignorant to think that rocky is the best fighter in the history of the sport. He was a good fighter but he never faced the sort of competition that just a Ken Norton faced. Hell, at 185, I think Michael Spinks could have beat him.
Rocky beat the best that was out there at the time, young and old. I think he had 40 fights BEFORE he won the belt. Both Ezzard Charles and Archie Moore won the HEAVYWIEGHT crown, AFTER Marciano retired. And, he beat those guys each twice. He got out at the right time, 32yo. There probably has never been a better inside fighter. Improvmaniac, your name is fitting. Because you are insane if you think Spinks could have beat him. Please.
The fact that Archie and Ezzard won the title after he retired just says how little competition was there at the time. People are driven by media and there's just a lot more media on Marciano than true heavyweights. I'd bet the farm that Max Baer would make Marciano his bitch. Even on his worst day Max Baer would make anyone his bitch. The problem is that no one knows who the fuck he is. Marciano is good, but he's not even in the top 5.
Consider this, what if Tyson retired before he ever fought Douglas? The same arguements would apply. He never found a true nemesis, never had equal competition, never tested against a superb athlete that could respond to the nonstop haymakers, divison was weak (before Holyfield, Lewis, Bowe, etc.) That is the one arguement that applies. He got out too early. But that was his decision for himself, not for the fans.
Max Baer lost his title to a washed up Jimmy Braddock. Marciano would have taken his best punch and kept coming at him with devastating body shots and then by the 12th round Baer would have his head torn off with a vicious right!
I've read that Marciano worked with someone who owed his friends some money. Marciano tried to be polite about about it but ended up knocking him out. After the fight one of his pals told him,'Did you know that guy went 12 rounds with Braddock!'.
Rocky dodged two great fighters Nino Valdez and Bob Baker Archie Moore was never a havyweight champion Ali Frazier Foreman Liston and alot of modern day fighters could take Marciano
He never dodged Valdez, Valdez lost to Moore, which is what got Moore the title shot in the first place. You are right, Moore was never HW champ though.
Ken Norton? You must be high! First of all he never won his title in the ring, he won it by default and in his first title defense he went down like a wet rag. Don't make me laugh!
I totally agree with you on both counts Marciano had agreat shrewed manager in Al Weiss who fed him a diet of has beens and never was fighters Ali Frazier Foreman and lots of others would have wopre rocy out and you need not be smart to know that/
I admire Tyson don't get me wrong, especially in the beginning of his career. I thought if anybody was going to break Marciano's record, Mike was the fighter to do it. However, you need more than speed and a hard punch never to loose a fight. Mike and many other great fighters have the physical equipment, but not the mental equipment. To me fighters like Marciano and Ali had both, it just so happens they were also never knocked out either.
jonny horny, do you like smelling cum? its gooey isnt it? i heard rocky hard the hardest punch so he may have the hardest jerking hand so he can give you and me handjobs. love ya forever
Marciano got outboxed early but never got frustrated and KO'd guys late. Tyson was a great FRONTRUNNER who got frustrated quick whenever a guy fought back. Heart? Rocky never QUIT the way convicted rapist Mike Tyson QUIT like a dog 2 times against 2nd tier Danny Williams and Kevin McBride. Rocky never bit anyone, tried to break arms, or fouled out to avoid losing like the coke-head did against Holyfield.

give tyson some bag gloves(about the equivelant of boxing gloves from that era that come with a heavy bag and let him box with these cats that hardly have any footwork( which is a part of boxing from what i seem to pick up) and you would probably see someone die. im white and i have to admit marciano was good but dont compare to tyson in the least and ali would have danced circles around this guy.
Tyson didn't have "Heart"? Who said, Teddy "I held a gun to a 15 year old boy's head because I am a pussy" Atlas?
If Mike didn't have heart, how they hell did he win so many fights? When he was rocked by Ruddock, and Bruno, how come his first reaction was to fight back? Brutally put down by Douglas, Mike got still managed to get up at 9.
Rocky's the best...he touched many lives of italian americans in his day...and still does to this day...i myself am a proud italian american and i truely believe that Ali would not have been able to withstand one of rocky's punch...ali leaned on the ropes alot and rested....rocky never leaned on u or grappled....he's the best....end of story
Rocky Marciano had more heart than any fighter . he refused to loose , and he was one of the greatest punchers of all time , he is one of the top ten greatest and anyone who dont think so knows nothing about boxing. he would have beat joe lewis in his prime
would rocky marciano have enough heart to go the distance in bed iwth me, you, theo1128, i love you theo and my friend sam the skunk. is his dark as hard as his punch? joe louis's was soft theor1128 told me
ignorant you for not wanting to suck my dick, rocky and dom's dick. sammy the skunk was my best friend, but now you are. so i'll keep replying to you my love. im brainwashed by your cum
Rocky Marciano is certainly in top 10 of all-time greatest heavyweights though. Great compilation! Marciano may have lacked science, finesse, and size, but his great attributes were a great chin, a great punch, rugged endurance and mostly great fighting Heart.
It always just breaks my heart everytime when I see that clip of a prime Marciano KO'ing an old Joe Louis because everybody knows what a prime Joe Louis would've done to a prime Marciano: cut him to friggin' pieces.
Rocky Marciano is certainly in top 10 of all-time greatest heavyweights though. Great compilation! Marciano may have lacked science, finesse, and size, but his great attributes were a great chin, a great punch, rugged endurance and mostly great fighting Heart.
JOE LOUIS, MAY, 1990 ISSUE OF BOXING ILLUSTRATED---"I had a bad weakness I kept hidden throughout my career. I didn't like to be crowded, and Marciano always crowded his opponents. That's why I say I could never have beaten him." WORLD BOXING, FALL 1998, Picks Marciano as the toughest of all heavyweight champions. ALI SAID, "...Rocky was a lot harder to hit with a jab than he looked."
Quinn was 15-1 with 14 KOs when Rocky was 3-0 and Rocky didn't even have a trainer at the time. Vingo was 6'4" had a record of 27-3 and in the fight got hurt so badly he had to go to the hospital. Eddie Ross was 26-0 when Rocky was 4-0 and Rocky knocked him out within 2 minutes of the 1st round.
The february 1980 issue of "THE RING" polled 25 boxing experts and asked who was the greatest fighter ever. The result was: 1. Sugar Ray Robinson 2. Joe Louis 3. Henry Armstrong 4. Muhammad Ali 5. Benny Leonard 6. Willie Pep 7. Rocky Marciano 8. Jack Dempsey 9. Roberto Duran 10. Jack Johnson Now I dont consider myself a expert BUT there is no way that heavyweights should hold 5 out of 10 top spots. No Monzon, Gans, Ketchel, Saddler or Archie Moore?
Marciano fought Harry "Kid" Mathews who had a 78-4-1 record and was older than Rocky. Roland LaStarza was 37-0. Rex Layne was 34-1-2 and was favored 9-5 to beat Rocky. Joe Louis, past his prime, BUT had racked up 8 wins in a row before he fought Rocky. Ezzard Charles was 72-10 with 54 KOs. (By the way, Ezzard Charles had 13 victories against future Hall of Famers at the time) Archie Moore was 150-22 with 121 KOs. After Archie Moore lost to Rocky he fought 49 times and lost only 4.
Ezzard Charles, past his prime when he fought rocky and Archie moore ill admit but Roland La Starza fought nobodies, and its funni u mention Kid matthews because he was past his prime as well
How was Kid Mathews past his prime??? He was 29 when he fought Rocky, his record was 78-4-1 with 57 KO's. Kid had been knocked once in nine years before the fight. Rocky was 28 and Kid Mathews was 29, I guess Rocky was also past his prime too.
Rocky Marciano is the most overrated athlete in sports history. He had 49 wins because he fought 49 bums. Everyone he fought were either old or complete bums. Marciano was the slowest heavyweight champion of all-time. He has overrated power, too. Many guys he fought were old and had weak chins. The only reason why Marciano is even put on the pedestal that he is on is because of racist whites like some of you who think he's the greatest fighter of all-time. Muhammad Ali is the real greatest.
Ali fought Archie Moore for the title, and Ali was 19 YEAR YOUNGER THAN HIM, Ali was 8 years younger than Henry Cooper AND 7 years younger than Patterson. Of course a fighter has to fight an older guy if he wants the title you retard. How often is a champ YOUNGER than the challenger?
Who cares that he was older? wasn't Louis 12 years younger than Braddock? wasn't Ali was 10 years younger than Liston? Tyson fought guys who were 12 and 14 years older than he was. Marciano couldn't fight EVERYONE in their prime plain and simple
Marciano was a super Joe Frazier, faster, stronger, hit way harder, didn`t tire EVER and could NOT be hurt, while going attcking and attcking. This has never been. So in reality he would easliy beat Ali. But and a big but; this hurts many, many people saying this, going against the bigest icon of boxing(and savior of a dying sport) so many that they would easliy be blinded to Marciano`s ability, lay and expert alike.
yea they were both good erryone is entitled to their own opinion we could go on for hours about the stats of both boxers...they were both great..they dont make em like that anymore
yea marciano hit harder den foreman..ahaha tyson wuld rule him dazz funnny...yea ali got the title back 3 times....rocky wuld have to..if someone had BEATEN him...ali was a lil bitch wit a big mouth..rocky had the strongest right hand in boxen history...he boxed a time were dere was no steroids or enhanced equipment to make him better....he retired yung cause no one wanted to fight em....he IS the greatest...
Marciano ain't the greatest. Ali would kill him what the hell are you talking about? The greatest and only man to get the title back THREE times will be only Ali. By the way, the Ali vs Marciano fight is a fake, they never really fought the fight had 3 different endings. Its like a movie.
2 many, rocky might seem an awesome, untouchable, heavy weight champion who hasnt lost a fight... i agree, but have some disagreements....if u knew anything about boxing youd know that rockys biggest wins were over louis n moore....louis however was way past his peak and had came back from retirement....n moore was in his 40's....if dis wasnt the case and both fighters were at their peak, as rocky was, i think rocky wouldve lost against them
No he didnt you noob! The "superfight" you are refering to was a fake. It was a simulated fight between Marciano (who was 45 and retired) and Ali (who was 27 and banned from fighting). You are an idiot, stick with baseball you silly tosser, you dont know what you're talking about!
your a dumbass enfieldcc4eva... Ali was good, but Marciano was THE greatest, 49-0, and 43 of those were KOs... and Foreman was just a pure slugger, he had no real technique
There have been many great fighters, but Marciano is the greatest of all time. All I have to say is 49-0, no other Heavyweight has ever even won 49 fights in a row.
WTF? marciano shokin, ali would trounce the guy, on this video u saw him beat an old and balding jo louis, and also beat an old walcott, lets face it, hes not the best ever, ali is, marciano was too small to beat ali, and dusnt hit hard enough, think of the punches foreman threw aginst ali, marciano couldnt hit that hard, marciano wouldnt pass the third round with anyone of the greats in ali's era.
Marciano broke LaStarza's shoulders and gave him blood clots in his arms, he made Carmine Vingo paralyzed on his left side and put him in a coma for over a week....Yet Marciano doesn't have the power?
ye sorry ive only studied boxing for 30 years, u tellin me marciano hit harder than foreman? yea rite.U think he would have actually hit ali? u have no idea what you talkin about.
Im not saying that Marciano could beat Ali, but it would have gone 15 rounds. Marciano had a chin of granite and hands of steal. Also people that dont fight have no clue what it is like to be pressured round after round by a body punching fighter. Also aggressiveness can win you a round. Alis conditioning could never touch Marcianos, look at his fights. Punches from bell to bell.
Morons. Joe Louis "the brown bomber," was the best in history. He would have bitch slapped Tyson and won a close match over Ali. He defended the title 25 times in a row in 12 years. THE GREATEST!!!
thank u finally sumbody dat has some sense Let marciano even try to take on Louis in his his prime it took Rocky six rounds to knock out A Joe Louis that cam eout of retirement
Idiots. Joe Louis SAID IT HIMSELF, quote, "I knew I could never beat Rocky", JOE LOUIS SAID IT. So unless anyone has more credibility than Joe Louis himself, a man who ACTUALLY fought Rocky then I suggest you stop saying he would beat Marciano. Louis said after their fight that he had never fought anyone who hit as hard as Marciano. I think that should clear some things up for EVERYONE
mah dude u cant base shyt like dat on jus words and after an ass whoopin like dat i might start doubting mahself too jus like when jordan thought he couldnt beat magic but he embarassed him
Actually dude, Louis said he couldn't beat Rocky in 1990 which was 40 years AFTER they fought. Marciano didn't even WANT to fight Louis because he was his idol. Louis wanted to win the title back and he still was one of the best fighters even though he came out of retirement.

He knocks out the guy in the 13th round.

a lot of top fighters can anticipate which direction you are going to lean, but no one in the heavies could do it quite the way Louis could. Joe Louis had killer timing and anticipation skills, in addition to the deadliest one two combo in heavyweight history. He could hit hard with any type of punch, but especially dangerous was that most rudimentary of all boxing combos.

Leaning forward the way he did, would have made him vulnerable either to a very dangerous, direct right cross straight to the temple, or an uppercut from a very bad angle. One of the things Louis was good at, was anticipating where you were going to lean.
pillsburydoughboy47 1 year ago
Also; Marciano and Frazier shared the same weakness, they both leaned forward way, way too much. The reason Ezzard Charles split open Marciano's nose, is because Charles saw that weakness, Charles threw a shitload of uppercuts because Marciano leaned forward entirely too much. Although he didn't beat him, he managed to damage him enough to go the distance their first fight, the punch that split Marciano's nose was a missed uppercut.
pillsburydoughboy47 1 year ago
I'm a Marciano fan myself, but a prime Joe Louis would have kicked his ass; Marciano himself said he put everything he had in his actual fight with Louis, and it still took him 8 rounds. Louis was old too man, old and banged up.
pillsburydoughboy47 1 year ago
also, if you will observe carefully, Marciano had an "I smell blood" mode. He had a sixth sense for when his opponents got hurt, and that is when the "mass assault" would start.
pillsburydoughboy47 1 year ago
Rocky reminds me of a Pitbull on crack. Tough as nail, he can take a lickin and keep on tickin. He was as strong as a gorilla and in order to beat the guy you were going to have to kill him.

Does anyone els here think that back then, the fighting wasent as evolved as we have today. That you could become pro in those days easily only if you had a coach from the 20th century. Like for example if you look at old football videos when it just started, that the athletes aren't really good and that they dont have as good technique's; since we evolved by watching whats good and whats bad
TruePlayerrr 3 years ago
I run a MMA gym and have been boxing for years. I'm the same size and build as Rocky 5'9" 180-190lbs. Having fought over a hundred people I can say that I am stronger for my size than anyone I've ever met but when you have a HW leaning on you, pushing you around and punching you, It's not fun at all. What Marciano did is truly unbelievable. I fought hundreds of guys in the gym and it's just mind blowing that a 5'10" 185lb man can eat these big heavies for lunch. I still cant grasp what he did.
Watthiman 3 years ago 10
a lot of that is genes; strength is not just determined by muscle size, the factors are
1) density
2) muscle insertion (length of the tendons, short tendons mean stronger torque, long tendons weaker)
3) testosterone levels, not just amount, but how well balanced it is.
4) bone density
5) whether or not the nervous system is naturally wired for muscle integration, that is muscles working as a unit, and not everyone is born with that.
pillsburydoughboy47 1 year ago
finally there's just raw willpower; Marciano trained for 6 hours a day every day, he threw so many punches during training, in due time he learned to time his hooks perfectly.
marciano wasn't a brawler, although he gives that appearance; each of those assaults was precisely timed and calculated, and all on instinct.

Watthiman 3 years ago 2
Proof is in the pudding. Marciano NEVER lost. Ever. In the 40's and 50's boxing era. Are you kidding? He wasn't the most technically-sound. He certainly wasn't quickest. But he had ONE THING the bum in the past 20 years have not had: HUNGER. He was going to drop you in the ring, or literally die trying. And, he didn't die...did he? He was a freak of nature. An unstoppable mini-tank armed with the most devastating haymaker the Heavyweight Division has ever seen. Pure pudding.

I agree Marciano was a great sports hero . He could still compete today , but at light heavy or cruiser . He would not even attempt fighting todays heavies . It would be ridiculous , Klitschko 6 ft 6 245 pounds I mean let's be real ! Marciano vs Hollyfield at cruiser would be more fair comparison and would have been fun to watch .
thesepipesRclean 3 years ago
Marciano was a great champion and he will always be remembered as one of the toughest and most couragous fighters of all time,BUT, the greatest champion of all time is the great brown bomber JOE LOUIS and i think Rocky would be the first to admit that he was.
kylecyclopdoddsmole 3 years ago
So what?
Rocky was 5'10" and 185lbs. Any guy that size would struggle facing those beached whales that call themselves modern heavyweights.
He'd be giving away 35-45lbs per fight. That's 10 divisions difference - like a flyweight facing a middleweight!
So, so what if he'd lose? If doesn't prove a thing. Rocky still made more out of himself than any heavyweight of the past forty years.
For guts and stamina alone he's greater than todays bum pretenders.
atreides1987 4 years ago 2
but thats a movie asshole!!!
koalatalk 3 years ago

Angelo Dundee (Ali's trainer)--Rocky was a decieving guy. He was not that easy to hit"
A. Dundee--"Rocky was the best I knew"
rifleman522 4 years ago 4
Rocky is great but styles make fights and i have a hard time believeing as slow as this guy was he would have even been able to catch a young ali
NormenBatez 4 years ago
If Rocky was so slow watch the 2 left hooks that knocked out Harry Kid Matthews. Sure Ali was faster, but Marciano was MUCH stronger. Ali would not have been able to handle the nonstop shots to the body and arms. Truth is, we will never know for sure. Thats a fact.
rifleman522 4 years ago

CROCCRETE 4 years ago
This is a great homage to a great boxer, but Muhammed Ali is the greatest.
Rockys got the best ever record, but Ali faced much tougher opposition from the begining til the end of his career.
nuttyBritproductions 4 years ago
Not only that, but Ali didn't make a career of beating over the hill ex champions. Ali is by far the best pound for pound boxer in the history of the sport.
improvmaniac 4 years ago
Imagine Ali fighting Frazier. Frazier was a one handed fighter. He hardly threw a right hand. When he did it severely lacked power. Marciano, essentially was a two-handed Frazier. To think that Ali would easily beat Marciano, is ridiculous. Pound for pound? I think Roy Jones and Sugar Ray Robinson got Ali on that.

bigsprayfromsam 4 years ago
One of rockys key strengths was his aggressiveness in the ring; he never really went on defense, which is a risky move to try doing. In addition, since rocky was short he made himself even shorter and harder to hit by dipping in to a little crouch and then popping up for a hook.
bustapunk101 5 years ago
Which is easy to do when the opponent is a middle age ex boxing champ. I think his key strength, if he had any, is his camp ability to line up such lame bouts.
improvmaniac 4 years ago
Wow reading the comments, there are tons of ignorant people trolling around. If rocky isnt a great fighter why do you come to a rocky video and bash him. Exactly you losers get a life.
newguy1122 5 years ago
Actually, you're far more ignorant to think that rocky is the best fighter in the history of the sport. He was a good fighter but he never faced the sort of competition that just a Ken Norton faced. Hell, at 185, I think Michael Spinks could have beat him.
improvmaniac 4 years ago
Rocky beat the best that was out there at the time, young and old. I think he had 40 fights BEFORE he won the belt. Both Ezzard Charles and Archie Moore won the HEAVYWIEGHT crown, AFTER Marciano retired. And, he beat those guys each twice. He got out at the right time, 32yo. There probably has never been a better inside fighter. Improvmaniac, your name is fitting. Because you are insane if you think Spinks could have beat him. Please.
raytaurus 4 years ago
The fact that Archie and Ezzard won the title after he retired just says how little competition was there at the time. People are driven by media and there's just a lot more media on Marciano than true heavyweights. I'd bet the farm that Max Baer would make Marciano his bitch. Even on his worst day Max Baer would make anyone his bitch. The problem is that no one knows who the fuck he is. Marciano is good, but he's not even in the top 5.
improvmaniac 4 years ago
Consider this, what if Tyson retired before he ever fought Douglas? The same arguements would apply. He never found a true nemesis, never had equal competition, never tested against a superb athlete that could respond to the nonstop haymakers, divison was weak (before Holyfield, Lewis, Bowe, etc.) That is the one arguement that applies. He got out too early. But that was his decision for himself, not for the fans.
raytaurus 4 years ago
Max Baer lost his title to a washed up Jimmy Braddock. Marciano would have taken his best punch and kept coming at him with devastating body shots and then by the 12th round Baer would have his head torn off with a vicious right!
agun4hire 4 years ago
I've read that Marciano worked with someone who owed his friends some money. Marciano tried to be polite about about it but ended up knocking him out. After the fight one of his pals told him,'Did you know that guy went 12 rounds with Braddock!'.

Theo1128 5 years ago
Ezzard Charles, past his prime when he fought rocky and Archie moore ill admit but Roland La Starza fought nobodies, and its funni u mention Kid matthews because he was past his prime as well
AJ10473 5 years ago
How was Kid Mathews past his prime??? He was 29 when he fought Rocky, his record was 78-4-1 with 57 KO's. Kid had been knocked once in nine years before the fight. Rocky was 28 and Kid Mathews was 29, I guess Rocky was also past his prime too.
Theo1128 5 years ago
Rocky Marciano is the most overrated athlete in sports history. He had 49 wins because he fought 49 bums. Everyone he fought were either old or complete bums. Marciano was the slowest heavyweight champion of all-time. He has overrated power, too. Many guys he fought were old and had weak chins. The only reason why Marciano is even put on the pedestal that he is on is because of racist whites like some of you who think he's the greatest fighter of all-time. Muhammad Ali is the real greatest.
cassius66 5 years ago
Ali fought Archie Moore for the title, and Ali was 19 YEAR YOUNGER THAN HIM, Ali was 8 years younger than Henry Cooper AND 7 years younger than Patterson. Of course a fighter has to fight an older guy if he wants the title you retard. How often is a champ YOUNGER than the challenger?
Theo1128 5 years ago
Who cares that he was older? wasn't Louis 12 years younger than Braddock? wasn't Ali was 10 years younger than Liston? Tyson fought guys who were 12 and 14 years older than he was. Marciano couldn't fight EVERYONE in their prime plain and simple

Marciano was a super Joe Frazier, faster, stronger, hit way harder, didn`t tire EVER and could NOT be hurt, while going attcking and attcking. This has never been. So in reality he would easliy beat Ali.

You have no idea what your talking about...

I think that should clear some things up for EVERYONE

mah dude u cant base shyt like dat on jus words and after an ass whoopin like dat i might start doubting mahself too jus like when jordan thought he couldnt beat magic but he embarassed him
AJ10473 5 years ago
Actually dude, Louis said he couldn't beat Rocky in 1990 which was 40 years AFTER they fought. Marciano didn't even WANT to fight Louis because he was his idol. Louis wanted to win the title back and he still was one of the best fighters even though he came out of retirement.
