  • watching the fighter at the same time as this :D

  • "Head, body, head, body!"

  • I didnt know Abe Vigoda was a boxing ref!!!

  • This reminds me of why I loved boxing so much back in the day. I wish I could watch boxing fights like this all the time with my monthly MMA / UFC fix.

  • wish they put ward gatti in the movie

  • @mccaffrey93 gatti trilogy will be the focus in the sequel

  • @andymcfly probably wont be a sequel it was just a once of biography on his life really

  • shea neary liverpool legend!!

  • if i took one of those punches i would be hospitalised. and i couldnt knock one of these dudes out if i had 100 free punches with my bare knuckles.

in fact, even then i would be hospitalised with my broken little hands!

jesus christ, i have to start workin out........

  • Lampley gets a LOT of criticism but listen to his commentary at the end of the round - 07:08 - it was spot on for how the fight would play out very shortly, with Ward using the left hook - "head/body/head/body" (smile) - to put Neary into never-never land. Even Foreman said, "there you are!" in recognizing a quality comment, before it actually came to frution.

  • thumbs up if you knew who micky ward was BEFORE the fighter

  • @oasis4ever92

    I sure did

  • In the movie, Micky Ward was knocked down by Neary in Round 6. But in real life, there was no knock down in the 6th.. Watch the movie and this video..

  • Ward is known for being a brawler and major body puncher, but when he wants to like in this vid, he shows that he actually can be a pretty darn effective boxer at range. He's landing some nice jabs and straight right hands in this vid. He did the same thing against Gatti at times in his fights with him. I think he just likes to slug it out though, its certainly more crowd pleasing.

  • @xBMF9000x It's also career ending, especially if you do it in 3 fights in a row...

  • "and ward is definetly a fighter"

  • thumps up for a great movie: the fighter

  • the movie made it seem like ward was losing, but he was throwin harder i think

  • Just watched the fighter and it was great, thats why I am also looking up his fights. I forgot how much I loved boxing. I love mma and they have been taking the spotlight lately but every time there is a big time boxing match it reminds me what a great sport it is. It also makes me sad that they cant get their act together. Come on, Mayweather, fight Paquiao. A guy to keep your eye on is Saul "El Canelo" Alvarez,

  • just seen the movie over here in Dublin Ireland..great story of hope and guts..well done to both brothers.

  • 3.29. Larry Merchant saying Neary is in his home town though he is a Liverpudlian fighting in London at the time.

Bless him I love him to bits but he does need to think a little more before he speaks. lol

  • @totaldebanker Americans, always talking about the rest of the world in that way; in my country's case, for an instance, they always say "the Mexican boxer is fighting in his hometown", not having in account if the boxer fights out of Sinaloa and the fight is taking place in Mexico City, a thousand miles away.

  • @totaldebanker it is his hometown compared to his opponent

  • I just wathed the movie less than 90 minutes ago and I am looking up this fight for that reason.Ward was doing okay in an even contest, although the Film made it look like he was getting dominated.

I just got done watching the actual fight against Sanchez and it was dead accurate. The movie was spot on coz Ward was getting his Ass kicked.

My final verdict is that I enjoyed the Movie very much.

It makes me appreciate Ward much more, especially his Trilogy against Gatti.

  • Why all the hatred in these comments? This was a great sporting contest, which I was lucky enough to be at, about 10 rows back from ringside. I certainly don't remember any of the anti-American comments at the real fight that you hear in the film.

  • I have just finished watching the Fighter and it's great to see a fight that I remember attending remade in Hollywood. And to see it from HBO's point of view too, but the best thing about the movie is it showed it to us Brits as we were follwing the other side to that story. The Shae Jimmy Neary side. We had yet to hear about Ward, although he would later go on to become a living legend with his trilogy against the late great Gatti. The Fighter is a great watch and Shae Neary was a GREAT fighta

  • Man I learn something new everyday Ward is a textbook fighter

  • i hate english cunts, there are so many here in australia i wish they'd fuck off back to their own country if they think its so good, all you hear over here is manchester united this, chelsea that ... FUCK OFF HOME YOU PRICKS

  • @CashedUpBogan46 just remember u came from the english u convict cunt

  • @CashedUpBogan46 hahaha...quality.

  • thumbs up if y0u're watching this because of the movie "the fighter"

  • @exoven fuck you, seriously. Is a thumbs up really going to benefit you? pathetic.....

  • @johnsoncody17 wow, you're so classy :)

  • good by marky mark

  • kick ass movie baby

  • I just watched this movie today fuck was it good had to watch the fights from the movie

  • Just came back from watching The Fighter. Great movie but the portrayal of this fight in the movie is inaccurate. They made it seem like Ward was getting dominated the entire fight until the last moment when he knocked out Neary. Probably for dramatic purposes. I guess it worked because the movie was great.

  • @PaintedW0LF u took the words right outta my mouth!

  • @PaintedW0LF I thought the same thing during Round 4

  • @PaintedW0LF It was for dramatic puroses, but it was accurate. From a viewer perspective it looks like Ward did throw punches (and snuck in some awesome combos that payed off later - the hook uppercut combo) but he was still fighting against a boxer. In trut he managed to break Neary's psyche a few times, and was dodging blows. If you really watch this video, Ward bends into Neary's blows. He was letting Neary wear himself out. Even the commentators are somewhat getting it wrong.

  • @PaintedW0LF The fight is very accurate, just watch all four vids of the fight and you will see what parts in this fight coincide with the fight from the movie.

  • Yeah you're totally right but "The Fighter" actually followed both this and the Alfonso Sanchez fight far more accurately than most sports movies that are "based on true stories." Yeah they exaggerated how much Shea Neary was beating Ward in this one, but the Sanchez fight was almost 100% accurate and this fight is actually at least incredibly well done in the way that Ward (In the movie) knocks out Neary. It's almost a duplicate.

  • @PaintedW0LF : That's exactly what it was for. It's why real life scenarios, and to some extent novels, can't be directly translated to film. They'd make for boring movies if told exactly as they happened or were written.

  • @PaintedW0LF ..I couldn't believe it when I watched it either...that is Hollywood..they did a good job of getting us watching it here on youtube though.Lol

  • @PaintedW0LF Good point. That is exactly why I searched for this vid.

  • @PaintedW0LF so true

  • Respond to this video... do you think they filmed scenes involving gatti and ward in the fighter but removed them because of gattis death

  • @PaintedW0LF It's because it was in Neary's home country. Ward would have to do something dramatic late in the fight for him to get a decision.

  • gatti vs ward..wow

  • everytime i watch the first few parts, i still think neary is gonna win. :)....but i keep watching and then he loses :(

  • @OrthodoxSteel That's because he was a cocky prick who thought The Pride of Lowell was a pushover and he already had his sights on Gatti. Too bad my boy Micky went on to have the fight of the century against Gatti.

  • @blkplaguelmc shut up u dick, neary aint cocky for fucks sake hes from liverpool an they made him sound scottish in that movie typical ignorance from america though

  • @blkplaguelmc oh yeah the commentator also proved his ignorance,"very difficult for ward to get a decision in nearys home country and hometown",for fucks sake nearys not from london they introduced minutes earlier being from liverpool ignorant

  • @Messi33a "For fucks sake!!!"... u fag. you even talk like a queer. London, Liverpool, England... It's all the same to us... call us ignorant, or call us not givin a shit about inferior countries. Most of us are too busy takin care of business here to study the geography of western europe. Just like Micky took care of BIDNESS with that piece of shit Shea. But if I were you, and wanted to be American, I would prob get mad too.

  • @cpallen13 u aint even a real country u 9/11 yank cunt,ur just a mix of europeans u stupid cunts, wheres all the white american boxers at oh yeah yeah aint none cuz ur spoilt little pussies

  • @Messi33a well we have military bases on IrelAND . WE USE ROBINSON air base to conduct operations. you government does not say shit. we re supply there to bomb afghanistan. you wont do anything tostop us. now you broke peaseants gp back to being the slaves of the enlightened people.

  • @mizzoulibertarian that makes no sense u dumbass yank cunt

  • when is the movie coming out?

  • @lfc1eddie 12/10/10

  • Looking forward to the movie!!

  • You too? I was an extra when they were filming in Lowell.
