All the rack gear you have wont sound that good unless your radio has been modded to pass wideband audio, not that hard, caps or direct feed will get you were you want to go
@414730 Very ture but the receive on everyones radios will still not get the full bandwith until they make the change. I now have a Magnum Raptor and Shure SM58 microphone with a Behringer 1002FX. Granted the radio will not pass the full bandwith, but what actually passes through sounds great.
BULLDOG, I AM THINKING ABOUT GOING WITH A DSP110 PROCESSOR WITH A SM58 MIC. WOULD THIS WORK WITH THE COBRA 142 GTL? I NEED THE INFORMATION ON HOW TO HOOK IT ALL UP.
@radio4044 You need to modify a stock microphone that is comfortable to key up. Tap into the audio & shield, solder a regular audio cable with a 1/4" mono phono plug. Plug that into a Y adaper with 1/4" plugs. Plug that into the main out on a mixer. I cut the hang up button on back of the mic and applied 3M acrylic double sided tape and placed in on the edge under the table top. SM58 plugs in a mic preamp. It is always good to monitor your actual signal for fine tuning of AUDIO. Take care, BD.
BULL DOG, I AM THINKING ABOUT CONNECTING THIS TYPE OF SET UP TO MY COBRA 142 GTL. WOULD THIS WORK? CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ON HOW TO PROPERLY CONNECT THIS? PLEASE EMAIL YOUR RESPONSE TO marcewing@comcast.net. THANKS WR 59 MINNESOTA. 73S
@radio4044 I have purchased a Magnum Raptor, running a Shure SM58 mic and Behringer Xenyx 1002FX. Check out the video on my YouTube channel. Soon I will be making a video how to hook everything up, Bulldog.
@BLUZUMR: BULL DOG WHAT ABOUT OTHER TYPES OF MIXERS? SUCH 15 BAND HAS NORMAL XLR & 1/4 CONNECTIONS. HAVE YOU TRIED OTHER MIXERS? OR DO YOU KNOW OF ANYONE THAT HAS?
Just to not ruffle any feathers, I am not bashing anyone's ideas, I have just decided to marry my vocation as a broadcast engineer and one of my many hobbies, CB radio. Passing flat audio from 1hz to 30Khz is way beyond the scope of Hi Fi AM. But I do offer a device that can do it, and at the same time create true asymmetrical modulation. The audio energy in an amplitude modulated signal is in the side bands. With my Mauldulator, the the signal is LOUD and will swing. However simply swinging does NOT make you loud. I do not use the NPC mod garbage. Radios that swing and don't overmodulate in the negative do so by altering the carrier to absorb big peaks.
Just a note to those interested in Hi Fi AM. Though the mixer is nice, there is no multi band compressor, limiter or EQ in the system. The radio may still have the limiter in it, and unless it was extensively modified, will be lucky to pas flat audio from 250 Hz to 2500 Hz. The mic is fine, thought you would greatly benefit from a EV RE20. Cheap and at the same time, excellent audio processing can be obtained with the Pro Tools software and Digidesign interface. If ant questions ask. I can help
This is common practice by Radio Hams. I use Heil microphones on my HF radios. I listened a very interesting talk by Bob Heil @ the UK Hamfest a few years ago, he used the small Beringer to show differences. I plan on trying one in the near future as fairly cheap compared to the high end Voodoo audio gear.........I was looking over the Christmas break at one.........The UK Waving a Hand Dave
awesome setup, truly a advancement in the hobby. taking big steps forward. Im quite fond of Sm57's and Sm58's made by shure. But your own ear is your best judgement. Diff mics make diff sounds. But just very cool to see a vocal mic used this way!
