You have to be able to separate the things they say for entertainment vs. actual insight, basketball is also part entertainment so sometimes they have to say dumb things to try and engage the part of the audience that doesn't know that much about the game. It's part of the job.

When Hubie is providing color he actually addresses the game and nuances that are going on. Our idiot poster operates at a different level than Hubie. Why would you criticize a commentator for reciting stats? That's one of the primary responsibilities of a game analyst. And never does he leave it with just PPG, Assists, etc. Hubie is a born teacher - forever contextualizing and elaborating on the facts and stats. He's as cerebral as he is passionate. And no sense of humor? What about the trademark Hubie Brown laugh - the one that goes on forever after he points out some random basketball absurdity. This is classic Hubie.

As a loyal Laker listener, I really liked Stu Lantz when he was with Chick Hearn, and Mike Fratello used to be very good.
But there's nobody better than Hubie calling an NBA game. I love when he's paired with Dick Stockton.
