  • I can deal with its speed

  • So, I have the Xoom but on sites like YouTube, the mobile view sucks. I know with my flash enabled phone I can go into the settings and tell it to not do mobile websites. Is there a way to do this on the Xoom? Thanks. :)

  • I have it but I really want the galaxy note I'm not sure to trade it help???

  • seriously xoom got the bad end of the stick being out so early and most reviews are just of HC and the flaws but Xoom now with 3.2 i think is more appropriate.

  • you should do a "6 months" review. 3.2 reportedly fixes a lot of the problems you're having.

  • Finally a good review on the xoom that shows an update for the table optimized android apps!

  • Jon, please change it's in your description above to its (debut). Thanks.

  • i always look at ur reviews befor i buy a new "device"

  • There is a new Asus Tablet u need to review, I think....... Its twice the price of the one i was looking to get...........

  • I love my HTC EVO and my XOOM but i still use my ipod touch for airg!!! =D

  • Haha...lady gaga...that was funny ;)

  • Flash doesn't just lag on Droids hell it even lags on Pc , Flash needs to go bye bye

  • @chestveeg OMG! LOL! ROFL! You don't know what did you said. 70% of all pages on internet are using Flash even the YOU TUBE lol if you don't want flash on you PC delete it...than go to You Tube and try to watch ANY video...

  • @gtagh youtube .com / html5

  • @BobZaGamer i mean in number and quality of apps they cannot top IOS but android 3.0 is just a fun OS. its not a 10 inch ipod touch. im not against IOS or anything but everyone knows thats a drawback. android just gives you tons of options which is true.

  • @BobZaGamer your an idiot nuff said

  • has anyone noticed the two major problems with any android device:

    1) you cannot close applications.

    2) multitasking is limited to recent opened apps not the apps which are currently running.

i use and desire hd on daily basis but if im going to buy a tablet, these things will really piss me off. other then that everything is perfect.

  • @nvinlove You don't need to close the apps, thats the whole point behind the way its coded. All these app killers and process managers in the market actually confuse the issues. Just let the OS do what its meant to!

As for multitasking limited to recent apps, not sure what you're going on about there. If an app is running in the background, click its icon and it will open as it was left.

  • @darrenpoulson Dude i know the apps will be open. I have a android phone, open apps drain battery fastttttttt.

n i mean really fast. n with app switching now. open gmail, after gmail open 16 new apps. now when u press that multi-tasking button GMAIL WONT SHOW UP nor the 11 other apps. so thats not true multi-tasking. thats all i wanted to say :)

  • @darrenpoulson Although apps run in the background it's only the new tablet apps that continue to run. Unless the app has services started it does nothing in the background except sit there.

  • Why even bother watching, Jon Rettinger is clearly iOS through and through. He won't put his iPad away for this device, just as he won't put his iPhone away for an Android phone. It's not a bad thing Jon, your preference is Apple, which is fine.

  • Lol! Lady gaga haha Jon, I didn't know you were such a big fan lolololol.

  • he is wondering why the web browser is so slow. Its because he had a youtube video running and hulu up at the same time.

  • why does it take ages to switch from portrait to landscape? is this kind of technology really that hard to implement, damn the ipad 2 switches in like half a second, this takes about 2 seconds, its not that big of a deal, but i mean is it that hard to implement? its nothing too important, but its annoying

  • Don't know what wrong with your Xoom or the ones u seen. Mine is super fast. Faster than my best friends ipad 2 even with my widgets running. Xoom is closer to PC than I pad 2. My best friend has iPhone 4 and ipad 2. Its the same thing. The iPhone just have better cams.....

  • I love how the display looks; how it presents all your content in a nice orderly way. BUT... wow, does it seems quite slow at rendering those web pages. This review has pretty much cemented my decision on getting the BlackBerry PlayBook.

  • Can the current samsung galaxy tab be upgraded to honeycomb?

  • @Chasevandiver13 Not at the moment. I'm not sure if it ever will.

  • Too expensive n looking at how slow it is i'd rather buy apple's overrated ipad2 :)

  • Starts at 0:14

  • no camera analysis??????

  • So there are a ton of Android tablets apps? You mean, like, the 16 that are in the Market right now?

  • @nicklassayshi Actually there's about 48 ;)

  • i love this tablet .........

  • I just realized that behind the black box where my xoom was sitting when I opened it .... there is a FREE silicone case ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ did you guys know that?

  • Thumbs up if u cant wait for Blackberry playbook vs Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 & the Playstation/Sony tablet

  • Can I come to your house to "keep it" while you are in the concert?

  • just picked up a motorola xoom today from vzw today..i figured 4g later & 3g now is better than wifi only.after 5 hours of use i know how to get things done on 3.0 but it is different than droidx 2.2..this thing zips on my wifi comparedto my 5 yr old laptop..i feel as this tablet will be the og tablet of motorola tablets to come via "stock honeycomb" with no blurlike overlay.. i can do everything document wise i need to do on this device as well as appfun

  • im bidding for xoom on ebay nowwww

  • does hulu plus work?

  • I thought the Xoom was a really neat device, until I seen the reviews and comparisons vs the iPad 2 or even just the iPad 1. Great video Jon. I can't wait til you pull out the Xoom vs iPad 2 comparison ;)

  • i came here to learn boutthe motorola xoom not SOME COWBOY TELLING ME ABOUT CLEAN WATER!

  • This may actually make me go android from iOS devices how bad is bloatware with android I heard that is a problem

  • I don't even bother watching Android reviews by Jon because I'm already aware that his blantant bias for everything iOS clouds his judgment. Thus his reviews will always be slanted to make Android look bad. Thanks but no thanks.

  • the sony NGp is 4x more powerful than this, and it's way cheaper, u can do work and web browsing on it too

  • I want one. You didnt ramble. I think I will get the 2nd generation Xoom.

  • GaGa... NO NO !!

  • waste of cash.

  • It huge!

  • Type MYPRIZE instead of YOU in youtube and hit enter

  • Android 3.0 is an Operating System - NO SHIT!

  • @ionutciber he says "as an operating system" listen b4 you criticise

  • Yeah! My first advertisement before the video! It's awesome! No, actually it isn't.

  • the xoom will have it rough because it was the first android 3.0 tablet so dont be to harsh on it

  • WiFi version $499

  • Type MYPRIZE instead of YOU in youtube and hit enter

  • Type MYPRIZE instead of YOU in youtube and hit ente

  • Papapapa Poker Face

  • It's Jon not John

  • im gettin a playbook cuz i think its the coolest tablet of em all but i am definitely impressed with the xoom

  • Your taking over youtube tech! I seached like EVERY phone, tablet, rumors and you are in the top 5 of each seach! :D:D

  • John, I love your videos, but seeing that screens are getting better and better, I urge you to get a better camera (or work with the lighting) to show a more detailed image and/or to display colours more accurately :)

  • 2:02 who the fuck is that guy??

oh... thats just the camera... HI!

  • 5:01 not app store android market dude!

  • What is better a laggy tablet with flash or a smooth tablet without

  • @gonzallles Jailbreak it and voila' .. Flash (Frash :P)

  • Xoom is a piece of shit, other tables are better like iPad 2 and future HC tablets.

  • iDevices are the best, there beautiful, smooth and flawless yet powerful iOS gives you an ultimate cheesy experience no other is able to provide.

  • @Xlife018 Beauty is a subjective thing, they leave indeffirent, as for smoothness for such a simple OS if they can't achieve smoothness then there is a huge issue there, as for flawless i find it quite bold to say so... in terms of software, you have alot of security and time zone changes for exemple bugs, and in terms of hardware, Antennagate for exemple, if you like what iOS do for you, then it s good for you but iOS is far from what i want

  • @InitialDAmine Actually beauty makes a difference, F.E If you're in market looking to buy a new gadget the first thing you'll go for the design and compactness of the device, as for simplicity I believe life should be simple and clutter free something which Apple has pioneered in technology and has successfully achieved in their OS, By flawless I meant they keep on updating and making their OS even better and in terms of hardware the antennagate issue is solved already.

  • @Xlife018 No, i m talking about your judgement, i mean to say that apple product leaves me indifferent, where as some other product looks exciting, but again that is a subjectif thing and everyone has it own judgement on the matter, so i believe you cannot generalise and say it s an argument.

Simplicity: yes, but seriously why would i buy a 700€ smarthphone to have some icons that looks like those old prople phones with huge buttons that looks like the icons in iOS?

  • @Xlife018 just look at the WebOS or Android, there is simplicity but at the same time you have alot of stuffs going around and alot of stuff you can do than moving an icon from one side to another....

As for upgrades every OS get them, just look at Android moving from 1.5 to 2.3 ...ect

And no antenagate is not solved at all, prove is that the carrier that just got it own version of the iphone 4 in the US(forgot the name verizon maybe?) has it iphone with antenagate issue.

  • @InitialDAmine I may sound like a stupid fan-boy but actually I have tried so many phones but none of them gave me what i wanted except the iPhone. Nonetheless, every one thinks from a different perspective and I hope that iOS will soon be able to do what you're looking for into it. :)

  • @Xlife018 i had an iphone 3GS at some point when i was moving from windowns mobile (HTC HD2) and after 2 weeks i sold back...and i really felt being rip off for what it is and what it could do...last year i moved on to Android and i don't regret it at all!

I invite you to do some extensive testing of some proper Android phones, they aren't all perfect, but i can recommande some that i think, they are worth it.

  • @InitialDAmine Androids are good but they aren't perfect as you said your self. The obvious reason because of which I love to stick to the iPhone is that it keeps getting better and better! the hardware is powerful and almost perfect, and the iOS keeps adding great new features to the same device! neither do i have to buy a new phone to keep my self up-to-date in terms of tech nor do i have to worry about backups because they are automatic! which unfortunately isn't the case with androids!

  • @Xlife018 i believe that you never had a proper Android phone and you dont know much of, them, You have to understand, that everything that iOS does or have is done by Android! not only that, but it have alot of stuff that iOS can't do, please take ur time have a month with an Android, without using or seeing an iOS device, and tell me if you ever can use an iOS product after that, just get a proper device, i can recommand some.

And please stop with the perfect, iOS is far from being perfect.

  • @InitialDAmine Alright, then name things which can be done by android and cant be done by an iOS device. Let's see what you have to say now!

  • @Xlife018 1-Full customisation and i mean full one!

2-True multitasking and not some random app switching

3-real web experience with flash html5 and many other codecs

3-Different market places and u can even instal apps from outside the google ecosystem

    4-Choice of hardware!

5-Emulation of other platforms such as game systems emulation N64/PSX/NES... and soonPS2

6-No shit itunes or whatsoever when you need to manage ur phones8pc connection

There are much more stuff i cant mention everuthing here

  • @InitialDAmine I believe your not completely familiar with the potential/features of iOS because if you were you wouldn't have said these things as they are already available to add in iOS.

    The answers:

1 - Change wallpapers, sounds, colors and icons and animations via "Winter board" + "Barrel 2"

    2 - Enjoy True Multi-tasking using "Activator" + "Multi-fl0w"

3 - Use "Frash" to add flash capability to the device.

  • @Xlife018 lol are counting jailbreaking?????? Be serious man, we are talking about phones out of the box, and that is why i didnt mention rooting and all the the OS and varations linux and android you can install on your phone.

    So no.

And still i ll answer u out of respect.

1-Changing wallpapers and colors of icon= true constumisation lol? On android you can change the whole IU for that matter!i dont believe you dared to compare the two on this aspect.

2-No do you know what's true multitasking?

  • @InitialDAmine 1 if that isn't known as customization then i would like hear the description from a person who spells UI as IU! gimme a link to video showing what customization your talking about

2 It's simple, "true multitasking" is when two programs can run at the same exact time. i use pandora + download + play games @ one time using previously mentioned software so please check your facts before questioning!

3 Flash lags like shit, eats battery like a vampire. HTML5 FTW!

    4 Piracy=no cash

  • @Xlife018 1-Duh what are you mad for you are even insulting me, talk about hardcore fanboyism. Then let me tell you I m french and IU= "Interface d'utilisateur" which mean UI in english .

    What i mean is this:

    link1:stock android:watch?v=XRaXL1L65Vg

    link2:SPB3D:watch?v=BKqn6vANxpw

    link3:Sense UI:watch?v=VH2Hr5tSKkw

    link4:ADPlauncher pro:

.......there are trizilions of UIs and it is not about UI, u can change everything in android from the UI to the media player or mail application to whatso ever.

  • @InitialDAmine 1 winter board is all you need to have that kind of look

2 why the fuck would i want to play a game while i am in the middle of a video? no you still don't know what are you talking about!

3 every knows that flash lags

    4 Proper English please

    5 No 5?

6 This is a software comparison, where the fuck did a point about HARDWARE come from? DUH INDEED!

7 To lift off the functionality limit apple puts on it for some reason!

8 Never happened to any iPhone I have seen!

    9 MyWi (google it)

  • @Xlife018 lol you really made my day , Winter board is like A while UI integration lol lol! Keep fooling yourself, at first i thought i was talking to some with a critical stand point and not biased, but seriously not only you are spouting none sense, but you are believing in it!

Anyway keep fooling your self mate.

  • Comment removed

  • @InitialDAmine You gave me points and I countered them with to-the-point answers and on the basis of facts, now you don't have the answers so you're blaming me that I'm biased and trying to insult me by saying none-sense huh! Well let me tell u I believe that I should talk to a person who is knowledgeable and talks the way a sensible person should and doesn't act preposterously (which you do) and isn't an idiot (which you are indeed) but now you have assured me that you're not one of them!...

  • @Xlife018 Who are you kidding here? You countered my point by to the point answeres with basics facts? well lets first start with the fact that all of those so called facts are not built iOS! and doesn't come with it out of the box, so your whole argumentation is biased but of course when you are out of arguments you go and insult me, which is not astonishing for someone that can compare Custimisation on Android and whole UI change to wallpaper and icon color changes!

  • @InitialDAmine Oh, using my style eh! you've learned alot by chatting with your dad lol!

  • @Xlife018 and not only for that but point point it goes like, that !how is that basis fact when you compare a kitty to a Lion and you say it the same thing?! seriously only a retard would do that, which of course you are and unlike you there are is an argumentation to this conclusion!

  • @InitialDAmine yeah I forgot that your android is a fucking kitty! lol

  • @Xlife018 yeah true story /s

  • @InitialDAmine I DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK, SO GET LOST!

  • @Xlife018 Rage much? lol !! Telling someone to get lost on the internet is pretty much funny! you've made my day lol.

  • @InitialDAmine Oh yeah, than fuck off and get your-self humiliated by someone else. I ain't got enough time to talk to a worthless person like you. lol

  • @Xlife018 Ouh, not it turned to twelve years old insults! but like i said before is not surprising at all; since i m actually talking to one.

Btw mind explaning why you still answering my comments if you don't have much time to answer a worthless person like me? Seriously?! lol

  • @InitialDAmine dude, get lost. jee wiz.

  • @iamDigitalTripp telling ppl to get lost on the internet is just funny.

  • @Xlife018 British -.- TROLL ALERT

  • @Xlife018 2- You do not have true multitasking, you are talking about native app+ another app, try launching a video on youtube website of wait u cant.. and the youtube application let it play and play a game, while someone is sending u mails /sms or calling you try that! Oh yeah i had an iphone 3GS so i know what i m talking about.

3-It doesnt have flash on it own, and what lags?? I have a desire HD and it doesnt lag! i can watch videos and Youtube website destock version withtout any issue

  • @Xlife018 4- Android store not making money?! And btw aight jailbreaking ur iphone allows to install Pirated apps so? .

6- Open source mean many manifacturer can put them on their phones so you get choice of hardware! so duh how is that not related?!

7- Oh really?and btw ifyour iphone os was so perfect then why the fuck you need to jailbreak it ?

8-I had an Jailbroken iphone 3gs for a couple of week , it Lags apps crash from time to time, and frezes so?

Oh iOS4.3 rofl,Android had it for ages!

  • @Xlife018 3-Frash =/= full Flash 10.2 support, and flash is only one of the many thing android navigation have over iOS

4-And what that does have to do with the choice of source???? different sources= choice=competition=different prices .....

5-Android being open can be picked by any manufacture unlike iOS so how is that not related to OS??

6-really?can you make a video of your own iphone running Android

    7-still the same crapware.

  • @InitialDAmine

5 you said choice of HARDWARE, not mentioned anything about open/close source.

6 i dont have time for that but watch here: /watch?v=uJj0kHQgC9w

    7 thats just an excuse!

  • @InitialDAmine 4 - Even if you will install apps from other markets, they need to be android compatible and iTunes makes them available under one spot, but if you still want and alternative, Try "Cydia" and Install0us

5 - Well I said iOS vs. Android which is a software war and has nothing to do with hardware!

6 - iOS Emulates Not Only the ones you mentioned above but also emulates the whole android OS!

7 - If you don't like iTunes just like me, use iFunbox.

  • @Xlife018 So by the end of the day! you went and brought jailbreaking something being done to iOS just to tend to what android can do and still far from doing so, loosing your phone warranty and making ur iphone even more buggy...

And there are more stuff i didnt mention, like syching over the air, Hotspot capabilities out of the box ect ect and i can keep going on forever

Even hardcore iphone lovers know this so i dont understant why you keep arguing with that...

  • @InitialDAmine who the hell said to you that jailbreaking makes iPhone buggy??? that's bullshit!

iOS 4.3 allows you to create hot-spot and lets you tether upto 5 devices!

  • @Xlife018 iOS is not bad, it does what most people want to do for them with software fully optimised for the hardware, but Android does those things and many more! but this comes at the price: being open source, means low profile hardware makers can get it, or even big companies, not putting the source and rushing things up, and from time to time you see a disaster, hint the 60$ chinese android tablets.but that doesn't change the fact that the highest end and best device of Android tops iOS.

  • @Xlife018 i have an iPhone, and the updates are pretty useless, how often do you actually use airplay/ airprint. there barely are any new features to be honest, although the updates are often and easy to to be done.

  • Goddamn you talk more than my girlfriend.

  • iPad doesnt lag. iPhone doesnt lag. this is why i buy it, just coz its awesome.

  • What is wrong with Lady Gaga? Just asking.

  • Nice size and interaction. I missed info whether this is a phone/tablet?

  • @Appletechreviewer I'm an iPhone user, might jump ship to Android if I see it get any better! My dad has a Samsung Galaxy S and I love it :P

  • Jon... the Xoom is complete crap. why are you praising it for things like build quality. Engadget and basically anyone else i have heard to review it says its horrible build quality.

  • @Brianexe43

Have you seen one in person? If you have the opportunity

to pick one up in your hands, and praise it--build quality is there.

It definitely feels solid, and firm. Metal matte backing, and has

that right amount of heft. Would be nice if it was just a tad lighter,

    but I'm not complaining.

  • @Brianexe43 engadget is pro-apple

  • But can it run Crysis?

  • Oh now we are household hacker

  • That's way slower than my almost 2 year old Desire. How can this be?

  • @MMJiang

    No shit.

I have this at my job, and my web browsing experience with this tablet

was so much faster. Pinch was fairly smooth, and didn't checkerboard.

I even loaded up Pocketnow, a website that's really heavy because

of it's load of flash content, and it did really well.

Scrolling was good. Pinch was good. Faster than this, and he was

    using Technobuffalo.

  • OMGaga! Jon is going to the Lady Gaga concert! Vlog it!

  • Comment removed

  • Maybe the browser was slow due to Flash running on every page?

  • But will it blend?

  • Btw: Do you think the Samsung Tabs - the worlds thinnest - will impress you more?

  • New mic, John? very clear sound.

  • GO IPAD 2

  • To Lady Gaga? You disappoint me Jon. Nevertheless, great video.

  • i love gaga

  • jon, you are killing me! get better lighting!

  • motorola sucks

  • Even if IOS is faster in all fairness it has nothing for it's UI (what UI?!) is useless. The Xoom dose have an UI and the closest thing you can get to a PC without using one. The hardware is very very solid Dual Core processors at 1GHz (standard) but RAM 1GHz DDR2 (that's a PC RAM, Not Standard or in any other tablets). It packs all the universal ports that you may need. However it's a very young software with tremendous potential. (John, sort out your device.)

  • if I am going to invest in a tablet then I will not choose Motorola.

  • I have an iPad,and it's a shame that I have to watch flash content on my evo. Overall I think the xoom is better, but jus needs a little more polish to make it a smoother experience. It is the better device though IMHO.

  • best tablet out

  • I love my Xoom :)

  • Directly go to 02:53 if you don't want to waste your time on his talking.

  • Too bad apple is too horny over flash to include it in IOS.

  • @2Girls1Tom i have yet to see a REALLY solid iteration of flash 10.1/2 mobile. if u have an iphone, open safari. scrolling and pinch zooming are EXTREMELY smooth. no choppiness at ALL. i've yet to see a mobile phone come close to this. the closest would be htc phones, which are pretty good. if they started using flash, they would loose that. maybe when a really solid one comes out... 11?

  • @HeffernanProductions Hopefuly by IOS 5 we get flash or some plugin.

  • @2Girls1Tom

IOS will never have flash. Only HTML updates.

It will be crazy if Apple finally comes to agreement

with Adobe, but until then, don't get your hopes up.

Perhaps plugins though. I suppose that's possible.

  • 06:47 Kratos in Mortal Kombat?

Goodbye characters from MK, it was a pleasure playing with you!

  • @scarlatticosta nerd rage

  • Seems to me the honeycomb is a hell of lot like maemo 5 if you ask me with customizing like on a Nokia N900 that's been out since 2009. Nothing innovating about it. Notification system a definite copy as well.

  • Google should just give up, no tablet will ever be able to challenge the ipad

  • The iPad 2 and iOS are the best! Nobody can even equal them!

  • @tomitofazzio stop being a fan boy

  • @imppyify that's the truth! i'm not a fan boy

  • @tomitofazzio Have you TRIED the motorola xoom yet? the playbook isn't even out yet. So please don't jump to conclusions unless you're a fanboy.

  • I didn't expect the browser performance to be that bad! For a high end tablet that's a total con, I would expect that from a device such as an "epad"

  • if iOS (5) is not gonna be as functional as android when it comes out... that will make the difference.

  • @PwniesFTW The ipad has tens of thousands of more apps, better battery, better performance, and actually works the best out of the box, unlike android which is slow and you have to wait for the software to be fully optimized.

  • @trc578 yes, no, no, no, no, no, and no. have you tried an android tablet? yea, that's what i thought.

  • @trc578 true but iOS doesn't have a great notification system that matches android, is not customizable besides changing the wallpaper, and it was cool in 2007 and 2008 but android just seems to be better.

  • So, it's thick, heavy, the battery runs at least 2 hours less than it's competition, the Android OS has yet to be polished, it runs hundreds instead of tens-of-thousands of apps, the "killer feature" Flash is "choppy but very watchable," and the web browsing is slow and clunky. Oh, and it's no cheaper than a comparable iPad 2 which "just works" out of the box and doesn't need any apologizing made for it. Hmm, such a tough decision...who buys something based on the hope it will soon get better?

  • @MountainMediaProdCo Don't you mean the iPad 2 " 'just works' out of the box once I connect it to a computer and make an apple account and configure it"

  • oh my god Jon talks so much shit... skip to the point

  • Jon, I like yout reviews and videos, but it seems that you have something wrong with your device, there shoulden't be this kind of lag, and it's false video. people check this video out watch?v=J2bAC9y1YuE

  • Many many many apps (screen stops scrolling)

  • @adamleewh That's just the featured ;)
