Speed guns in this era record the speed from the hand where as tests in the seventies were recorded arriving at the batsmen. It is said to slow down approx 15kph from the hand to the batsman. Thomo, Lillie, ,Roberts hit low 150's at a speed test, thats on here somewhere, so it would be conceivable some of 'em were well over 160 from the hand!

shohaib is not better than brett..shohaib might have bowled 1 ball fast...but look at the stamina ..brett lee played 76 test , while shohaib only 45 test(out of which 10 test , with help of drug) ....brett also played more one days than akhtar............

@voipims Shoaib Akhtar was a better strike bowler than Lee... His test avg was 25 vs 30 of Lee and more importantly Strike Rate of 45.5 Vs 53.3. Shoaib Strike Rate was among the top test in the history of test Cricket.

All these stats considering Shoaib played most of his test matches in dead Sub-continent wickets as oppose to Lee's career in Auses, Eng and SA green Wickets!!!

Jeff Thompson got measured at 160.45km/h when the ball had reached the batsman, because the speed guns were aligned at only one end of the ground. If Thompson got it 160km/h after it travelling to the batsman then he must've been bowling at least 170!

In this video Thomson was recorded at 147.9 km/hr as his fastest with avg of 142 km/hr... In this same video Holding was at 141 fastest and 140 as average...

Keep in mind that in this video their is no batsman... The sole purpose of the bowlers is to bowl fast with ample amount of warm up and rest...

@GalaxyHop I respect all fast bowlers whether they belong to any region but you must also take into account that in the past there were fast pitches also made but now a days in asia specially slow pitches are made which quite reflects and supports fast bowlers. A speed gun would better tell the speed of the bowler. and you must also see shoiab akhtar at perth against australia and the interview the justin langer gave about shoaib akhtar. Thanks
