  • Kgarmaker123: June Anderson not a legitimate bel canto singer? You're delirious.

  • I'd like to underline how well the conductor leads his orchestra piano when J. Anderson has to sing softly some parts of the aria.

Nowadays, can we still find the same attention, worry from the conductors ?

  • :-O Does anyone think that June Anderson here looks just quite like a young Dame Joan Sutherland, & at times vocally similar timbre in certain passagios & textures & shadings of her rendition of the aria, it goes without saying her diction here is pristine as well! :-)

  • They certainly have the same jaw, but June is prettier.

  • Yeah, a lot of people think that because they both have a big chin and sing Bel Canto with bigger voices. June sang a lot more Rossini, however, and you have to look at both of them as independent artists.

  • I love June and think this is a great performance, but did anyone think that the cabaletta was a bit slower than most singers take it?

  • I agree the tempo on the cabaletta did seem a little slow. I believe I've heard other recordings from June Anderson at a faster tempo. Not sure what went on here.

  • I quite like it at this tempo, shows off the colours in her voice better. We all know she can equal Sills is speed! The conductor probably wanted to take it slower.

  • @robertdonkers No, if you listen to a sampling of Ms. Anderson, you will see that she likes the slower tempos.. for reasons, that must have to do with her vocal production.. This is not a fast voice.

  • @kgarmaker123 Oops, not a fast voice? She is one of the great coloratura sopranos of the 20th century. Heard her live several times and boy can she sing fast! I do agree though that she does not sound fast but that is altoghether something else. Take care now.

  • @kgarmaker123 I respectfully suggest you don't know what you're talking about. Simply listen to passages within her renditions of Bel raggio, or Tanti affetti. An ability to sing "fast" and using discretion with regarding tempi to achieve a desired effect/impact are two different things.

  • @nickbigd I most certainly do. Why are all of Ms Anderson's characters imbued with a slow languid, dream like approach? Answer is simple: It slows the tempo up and allows her to make all the pitches. This is not legitimate bel canto singing when she cannot take it at the tempo the composer wrote and sing it well. Sorry.

  • wonderful!

  • You know, what you said put things into better perspective for me. I've only experienced June on record, and I believe that what I've perceived as being brittle or strident could make for a thrilling live performance in a big house. Thanks for sharing your observations.

  • Agree, he her Gilda at Covent Garden, it was just a magical performance the voice was just amazing in the theatre.

  • I love June Anderson. She's really pretty incredible here.

  • Marvellous!

How anyone could "loathe" June Anderson is a mystery to me; I guess it can only be for reasons other than her excellent artistry.

  • THANK,S!

  • I generally loath June Anderson, but even I enoyed this immensely......lovely phrasing and insight

  • Gorgeous!

  • es más cursi que un ajo, pero canta muy bien

  • Hurrah and bravo! Thanks for the new June clip!
