  • My parents had this single and the live at the Apollo record. I remember my dad drinking and putting on these records, and just looking like he was lost in the raw emotionality (is that even a word?) of JB's songs. It made quite an impression on me as a small kid.

  • wow wow wow wow I love this guy Soul to the purest wow dam he was great I am 62 now and still listen...peace larry

  • james he loved it ,thks MR BROWN

  • Audiences used to rachet as hell back then. they couldnt even get them to be quiet for 2 seconds lol

  • @misseraphimarose It's a very famous trademark routine. James would always drop to his knees in the middle of the performance as he became overwhelm with emotion/worked himself to exhaustion & the band member would come out to help him, put the cape on him & attempt to escort him off the stage. James would throw off the cape & come back to finish the set with x10 amount of energy. It was to rile up the crowd..

  • Can someone please explain the cloak and why one of his band members comes to his aid in the middle of the act? Why does he throw the cloak off?

  • In 2011 i'm listenin' to James Brown, Nina Simone, Ray Charles and Etta James...I dont know why, maybe because Music is dead?no?

    La interpretación ha estado magnífica!

  • please, please, please, please, please, just a little kid when he sang this but I remember the cape. JB had a soulful voice - he could sing with a whine in his style and I like when he sings in a lower octave. This man was amazing.

  • @soulmziklova lollllll haha :D np :)

  • @soulmziklova DONT GO CHRIS BROWN ON HER BUT PUSH HER INFRONT OF A CAR :D next time she says something like that

  • My sensei, Johnny Pereira(R.I.P.), once said, "What a karate man he would've made..!"

  • The story of my soul.

  • lipsyncing.....HOWD HE GET AWAY WITH IT lol james brown is still a genius

  • I few years ago I had contracted meningitis. I was sick as a dog. After I got out the hospital, I was home recovering for what seemed like months. I stayed home and watched old movies on cable. And this '60's flick, I'll never forget. it was called "Ski Party", or something like that. There was a bunch of white kids at this resort, and all of a sudden, in the middle of the film, James Brown and his band come out of nowhere and starts jammin'. What a trip. One song, and poof, they vanished.

  • Don't underestimate Otis Redding. The real king of R & B.

  • @CosmoGrassano Otis Redding was the king of Memphis R&B. James was the overall king. Otis knew that which was why he called him Bossman.

  • @littlenaitch2

I love James Browns & Otis Reddings. Both bad.

  • @wilsonroshaia Right on.

  • As soon as MJ died everyones all of a sudden talks about him in a good way. stop with it.

  • @NaiJorJul - Michael has always had fans all around the world. Just because some people in the US talked shit about doesn't mean everyone else did the same thing. Many if not most of the people who speak nicely about MJ have always been fans.

  • damn james brown gets down. hehe")

  • He said part of his act he got from the preachers he used to see as a kid in church, how they use exxagerations and acting to move an audience so much. You can see it easily!!

  • Man i frickin love this song! you can FEEL it :)

  • Notice that each time ol' boy threw the robe over james' shoulders it would send the females into a frenzy? LOL That's called theatrics ladies and gentlemen. The females loved James and that robe.

  • OMG...what on the planet is better than this?

  • i dont think he opened his eyes once!! RIP James

  • sweet Jesus wut a voice <3

  • This doesn't do justice to the performance he delivered prior to this finale. A personal peak experience was bearing witness to the master at a small club in Grayslake, IL in 1962. Out of this world. Still seeking video of those days.

  • both MJ and JB loved short pants lol

  • I really love this stunt he pulls with the cape every time he sings Please Please Please.

  • @JohnnyReb2009 , I agree, I love this stunt with the Robe, it's awsome

  • LOVE THIS MUSIC PLEASE HANK 4 GIVE ME

  • I tell you if the song wont make you stay, the cape is a definate selling point.

    I love this man!

  • although i'm still curious to how Don Robey and Leonard Chess would have recorded him as well......if not for a freak Chicago snow storm Leonard Chess would have beaten Ralph Bass to Macon Ga, to sign JB....Bass drove instead of flying there......Don Robey of Duke-Peacock Records was also intersted in signing the group as well

  • @d820m Brown's signing to King was divine destiny, that's why Ralph Bass got to him first..

  • Syd Nathan-owner of King Records-during the first take of the song, was in the control booth screaming at Ralph Bass(the producer) saying this is the worst piece of s--t he ever heard, its only got one word in it and that the record would not come out....Ralph Bass actually did get fired over Please, Please, Please.... but when the record started selling Mr. Nathan hired him back.....but just think....we were THAT close to not having ever heard of James Brown on 4/4/1956

  • I swear to GOD. If you still choose to walk out the door & leave me after all that. Something wrong wit YOUR ass...... They all stole their swag from J.B. "THE GODFATHER". Even the damn wrestler Ric Flair...... R.I.P. James Brown. Could you imagine the lineup for a concert in heaven right now......
