My parents had this single and the live at the Apollo record. I remember my dad drinking and putting on these records, and just looking like he was lost in the raw emotionality (is that even a word?) of JB's songs. It made quite an impression on me as a small kid.
@misseraphimarose It's a very famous trademark routine. James would always drop to his knees in the middle of the performance as he became overwhelm with emotion/worked himself to exhaustion & the band member would come out to help him, put the cape on him & attempt to escort him off the stage. James would throw off the cape & come back to finish the set with x10 amount of energy. It was to rile up the crowd..
Saw him live 45 years ago. Me and my friend skipped school and we were the only two white people in the audience. He did this song and we both cried. hahahah...hormones....we were 15. We didn't get caught either. Great memory. It was in Washington, D.C.
@Moonchalice hahaha saw him 50 years ago same situation only white kids there and it was great, Watched him fall to the groung while they put his cape on. Jeez, was just so much fun..glad youhad a great time tool..
My head lights beeping and panties wet. Look out!!!! I'm ready for you James Brown honey, but first you got to do something with that hair of yours.....

James Brown gives yet another exciting soulful performance. I can’t get enough of this guy, watching all his video just confirms the impact he had on me, my friends/family…as well as Michael Jackson, Prince, Hammer just to name a few. and the world. James Brown will always be the greatest African American entertainer of all time period. I have been a loyal fan since I was six and I’m in my fifties today.

please, please, please, please, please, just a little kid when he sang this but I remember the cape. JB had a soulful voice - he could sing with a whine in his style and I like when he sings in a lower octave. This man was amazing.
Que emocion devia ser ver en directo a uno de los mejores cantantes de la historia en directo, realmente impresionante, aqui en una de sus mas grandes obras maestras.Fabuloso.
I few years ago I had contracted meningitis. I was sick as a dog. After I got out the hospital, I was home recovering for what seemed like months. I stayed home and watched old movies on cable. And this '60's flick, I'll never forget. it was called "Ski Party", or something like that. There was a bunch of white kids at this resort, and all of a sudden, in the middle of the film, James Brown and his band come out of nowhere and starts jammin'. What a trip. One song, and poof, they vanished.
@NaiJorJul - Michael has always had fans all around the world. Just because some people in the US talked shit about doesn't mean everyone else did the same thing. Many if not most of the people who speak nicely about MJ have always been fans.
He said part of his act he got from the preachers he used to see as a kid in church, how they use exxagerations and acting to move an audience so much. You can see it easily!!
Notice that each time ol' boy threw the robe over james' shoulders it would send the females into a frenzy? LOL That's called theatrics ladies and gentlemen. The females loved James and that robe.
This doesn't do justice to the performance he delivered prior to this finale. A personal peak experience was bearing witness to the master at a small club in Grayslake, IL in 1962. Out of this world. Still seeking video of those days.

Syd Nathan-owner of King Records-during the first take of the song, was in the control booth screaming at Ralph Bass(the producer) saying this is the worst piece of s--t he ever heard, its only got one word in it and that the record would not come out....Ralph Bass actually did get fired over Please, Please, Please.... but when the record started selling Mr. Nathan hired him back.....but just think....we were THAT close to not having ever heard of James Brown on 4/4/1956

And, if ONLY the Gods can let us KEEP the ever glowing stars, I would be dancing in THE GODFATHER OF THE SOUL MUSIC, James Brown's concerts, now.
INTERESTINGLY, Many empires has come & gone & ALREADY FORGOTTEN.
But,,, JAMES BROWN, still LIVES ON & ON & ON, resonating & soothing the hearts, minds & souls of BILLIONS of people all over the world.
