Fun fact: all iterations of Hibachi have stacked over the years. You will notice that DaiFukkatsu's version has this attack, portions of DaiOuJou's true final boss attacks (notably the last one) and adds the 360-degree laser wall to the mix. Essentially CAVE has upgraded the same template over and over again.
@Akrilloth ill look that up.... I have nightmares about mushihimesama... you see, I went on holidays to Japan and happened to go to an arcade... I roughly lost $30 in continues
Is there even a MAME version of this ROM? The more I think about it, the crazier it seems that less than 5 people have ever played the Blue ROM. I guess that makes it all the more valued and sought after!
I'd like to see people even play this game in the first place. Its edition is so limited only one copy was actually confirmed to exist. You see WTN playing it above.
Hard compared to what? Yea, this guy can probably 1cc it without any problem. Maybe you can too, who knows. But for the average player, the average core gamer, it's a very hard game.
Oops, didn't realize you were responding to an earlier comment.
I meant that the regular DDP isn't as hard as DDP CV (like I said above). The fact that DDP is still hard by itself has nothing to do with that statement. However as far as shmups go, DDP 1-ALL is still on the easy side of the spectrum. It's roughly comparable to, say, Touhou Lunatic in terms of survival difficulty if you don't deathbomb in the latter. Playing for score makes it a lot different, of course.
i dont see how call of duty has anything to do with this game anyone with half a brain can play call of duty this kind of game actually requires intelligence and memorization
"Came" out, you mean. Almost 11 years ago, actually!
This is a limited edition (the actual amount of copies is unknown, but it's very small) of the arcade game DoDonPachi.
The standard edition was released slightly earlier in 1997 in the arcades, and then ported to Saturn and PlayStation. If you want to try it out, you can try getting either of the ports, or the MAME-playable ROM.
You don't remember this boss because there aren't many people who've even seen it firsthand. You must beat the game clearing a certain condition, and then beat it immediately once again on a higher difficulty in order to fight it. There are like 2-3 westerners who've managed to do it.
DaiFukkatsu came out several months ago, and there are no news on possible ports yet. The DaiFukkatsu PCB itself costs around two grands these days, so it's not easily accessible. Well, unless you live in Japan.
Aw that's horrible... and I'm guessing we wont see a rom dump any time soon. Guess I'll have to find out where to get the cabinet... and I hope that's what you meant by the pcb.
By PCB I mean the printed circuit board; i.e., the game's actual physical form. :)
You don't need a full cabinet to play it — just the hookup and input/output devices: a nice TV and a suitable controller. Think of it as of a single-game console (such setup is called a supergun). Making it into a dedicated cabinet will cost you somewhat more than that, mind you.
Well, don't forget that you can re-sell it later. PCBs usually don't sufficiently drop in price over time unless a good home port is coming out, but that's nowhere near at this point. You'll likely lose 0—20% of the value upon reselling, but that will be the price for having fun time, so it's all good.
As for me, I just don't have that kind of spare money at all, so it's out of question. :D
I've almost done it! (I'm a Westerner) I've been able to no miss Hibachi, but with the use of bombs gained from previous deaths. I could one credit the first loop however, but the second I use a couple.
I'm getting there. :) Of course, not on the Campaign version...
Even DDP Daifukkatsu looks tamer. The DFK player sits right on Hibachi during a couple of patterns, and clears out some of the others with Hyper. The bullet patterns here in DDP CV are nasty stuff, and Hypers aren't nearly so helpful in this case. This has to be the toughest Cave boss, barring maybe Mushi Ultra's TLB.
Well, to be fair, DaiFukkatsu's TLB is still near-impossible if you take out the safe spots and other lameness. I'd say it's about on par with Futari's, maybe harder. Hard to tell since I've never fought either. :P
Although DaiFukkatsu's also shoots bullets that are both faster and more randomly aligned, which also contributes to its difficulty compared to Futari.
this may sound strange... but do you ever get like a strange euphoric sensation every time you play or watch games like this played? it isn't like happiness just like this sense of awe or wonder...
I wasn't really surprised by much of this battle, until I saw that Hibachi shielded itself from every bomb that was fired! Notice that blue circle that appears around Hibachi every time he uses a bomb, and how its lifebar stops going down until the shield goes away? That's just cruel.
I think it's because gaps are larger in the last one; it's actually not worse than its counterpart in the normal DDP. Maybe even easier. The patterns he bombed through were just too spammy to risk even for a player of his level (and we're talking the guy who holds a stellar 748mil DDP score, after all).
Also, he had only one bomb left by the time the last pattern began, and used it early on. When you have no bombs left, you don't have to worry about bombing when a bullet gets too close, which allows for better dodging (in my experience, anyways; I'm nowhere near his level but I assume that principle would still hold).
Agreed. After all, many (if not most) of the times, skilled players bomb even in situations they could have passed without bombing, just to be safe. Sometimes it's funny how they bomb a couple times on easier places, then run out of bombs and run through a harder part unscathed.
This is painful to watch knowing that you're never gonna play it in your lifetime.

There is no MAME version (yet).
However, as Cave has brought the PCB to a number of fests and meetups, way more than five people actually played it.

not intellingence dude, skill, my uncle who is a genius and has a perfect memory lost incredibly on dodonpachi so call it skill.
Hang on memorization?? You havent played this game right?
MargotLot 2 years ago
Ehh, hate to burst your bubble, MargotLot, but memorization is one of the KEY FACTORS in doing well in any (good) SHMUP game.
And your use of "skill" is very.. vague. In the context of SHMUPs, "skill" = memorization + fast reflexes.
Take this information from someone who actually does SCORE runs in various SHMUPs (Cave, Psikyo, etc).
Oh, and that player is VERY GOOD (have to stay on topic, right?)
