I know very little of this woman apart from the fact that she had some songs on the charts maybe...10 years ago? Anyway, I was linked to this video and she seriously made me weep like a child. She really owns this song when she does it. It was a fantastic thing to watch.
I wish I could find the B-side of this song again it was released alongside the To Venus and Back album. I remember crying to this song a lot and writing poetry to it when I was 14. This makes me miss my whimsical youth. My 20's are much too serious and less poetic now haha.
What does it matter...her hair, her appearance? You are listening to her pour herself out on a stage in front of thousands of people. To those of you who can only comprehend to comment on is her hair...you should be ashamed of yourselves.
I'd manage to wake up every weekend with this whisper in my ear... mornin' love and breakfast run, as well, of course, on your side. It's, for sure, a fair treatment... 'telling you! Any offers?
I love this shaky-cam version in blue light, and a warm recording that is lo-fi but absolutely beautiful. Whoever did this captured it just like when I have seen her live, only because my friend insisted, but I was always so glad I'd gone... awesome.
She was wearing her wig in her Sinful Attraction Tour, yet there was no Doll concept on that album... Which tells me that maybe our Tori somehow thinks that thinning, shorter hair is not spectacular enough for the stage... Which is why I say that I really hope she ditches the thing for her next tour. Looking at this video here, I miss her real hair.
@Irideika I think that at the sinful Attraction Tour she didn't wear a wig, only extensions on her real hair..:/
By the way I always though that Tori didn't really give a damn about her appearance. when she begun she said''these are my precious things, let them bleed let them wash away''...this is the Tori I love and I'm kind of dissapointed now...:(
I think you're right about the extensions. Either way though, me no likey. Especially coupled with the very sometimes stiff-looking outfits she had for the AATS tour, it was just really odd.
I am definitely in the minority of Tori Fans - i don't yell if people don't LOVE everything she's done :) There is a lot that just doesn't make sense in some of the songs. It made sense to her and maybe to someone else, but i do wonder if she's pulling our collective legs at times :)
I appreciate honest conversation about all forms of art. There's no right or wrong, just what is perceived. I do wonder why you keep posting if you don't care for her music. But to each his own :)
"Look - I'm standing naked before you" does not necessarily mean literal nudity - she is talking to a man who seems to want nothing but sex from here when she is willing to open her heart, jump through all kinds of hoops for him. It's not a good or healthy relationship and the character whose POV Tori sings from in this song needs to get out of this relationship.
There is usually a lot more going on in a Tori Amos song than one might immediately glean from one listen. Many layers here.
That is the best version of that song I have ever heard( besides orginal) she knew she was being taped but she loves that song and performs in true orginality, very beautiful , very haunting, and very powerful was her performance, just like the song, breathtaking.

ew. im sorry, but it just looks like she is SOOO full of herself. Why so many STRANGE facial expressions. Like "LOOK AT ME!! IM SO NOVEL AND CUTE." Watch the Leonard Cohen version. BIG DIFFERENCE!! He lets the lyrics and the music speak for itself (as intended) and doesnt offer strange conflicting facial expressions. Not into Tori's version!
Hi- where is this show? I saw(and heard!) her do this song in Dallas in summer of '96. One of those GREAT tori moments... I had been looking at the friend I went to the show with, and all of a sudden his JAW DROPPED. I knew she had to be doing FBR!! She does such justice to this song - it's just yummy!
I'd LOVE to see concert footage from OKC in 1994 & 96, Tulsa 1996 and Dallas 96 if anyone has some - I'm now disabled and can't see her live anymore. Torifans are THE BEST - thanks 4 any help!
I bought Tower of Song not knowing much of Tori's music, though Famous Blue Raincoat was one of my favorite Cohen songs. After I heard this version I just sat in awe...such emotion had surfaced in me and the words took on more power. Truly beautiful.
nice comeback, urbanecowboy99, you must be the bright one in the family, instead of repeating my line and showing everyone how ignorant you are again and again, you could simply stop posting on Tori videos and if you can't spot the genius in Tori you could not watch them period. I feel sorry for "deaf" people like you and those that also think they're critics as well are down right brain dead.
This full of genius, sweet creature Tori Amos is too much for some people and they try to find fault, guess what... you can't find any... No matter how she plays a song it's always an impeccable performance!
Long live Tori Amos and each and everyone of her "girls", including covers like famous blue raincoat, it might not be her girl, however she borrowed the song and she gave life to it in a way only she can... with a mixture of feelings that can be overwhelming... matchless passion...
Tori discussion has really changed since the message boards in the mid 90s. EWFs have been some of the most generous people i have ever met - things started changing in 1998. Just got in-sane. And sad - I know Tori was terribly hurt to hear about it. It still shocks me (someone knocked over my wheelchair to get to her at a M&G. Just mind boggling). But i still choose to believe the good folks are still out there!! Yay!
KingofRoath - sorry about that, i sort of hate it when people do that on message boards. "EWF" is a phrase that Tori came up with as an alternative to calling us "fans". She talked about how very loyal we were and said that she would rather call us "Ears With Feet", which became "EWF" after awhile.
And M&G is a "Meet and Greet" - any time an artist, before or after a show, sets aside time to sit and sign autographs or talk, take pix with fans. Or "EWFs" :) 'Hope that helped!
i think thats why i like her though. she slaps you in the face with her music. it's all raw emotion and the purest form of it. she doesn't care if it's taboo or inappropriate. and while on the outside it looks like she is some rebellious woman just trying to defy everyone, she's really very personal because she admits to things we would never admit to feeling or thinking. and she pushes it to the extreme of that thought or feeling/emotion.
but i can accept that that just doesn't appeal to you.
i duno. i guess i just relate so much to her performances because i feel she is able to tap into the passion that i want to express but can't. she expresses how i picture the song to be expressed in my mind. and everyone sees it differently. you could connect with an artist i would never see any passion in. its just taste and our inner being.
as far as sexuality, watch the older versions of winter and leather. she basically orgasms on stage.
i can understand why you don't like her...but i actually thought that this performance was nothing like the reasons you gave. i think that you don't like the sexuality she uses in her music and i thought this was more about the emotion than being sexual.
Capricious and oversensitive? That's exactly why I like her so much :P
If you think about it, which popular artist is not just a persona in front of the audience? Some are just more honest about the fact that it's a persona.
although there are many brilliant artists/bands to choose from, very few manage to bring to life a song. Tori, on the other hand, gives life to every song she plays... "famous blue raincoat" already a full of genius masterpiece by Leonard Cohen, with Tori's touch on top, the mixture of feelings can be overwhelming(power, fragility, happiness, sadness, love, passion... all join hands). I adore this impeccable, full of genius, sweet creature Tori Amos and each and every one of her "girls"!

EWF = Ears with Feet = Tori Amos fans.
M&G = Meet and Greet (when Tori comes out before a show to meet and greet fans that have been waiting for hours to see here before soundcheck time)
