  • Bob

  • The things awesome not bad Ipad's Better

  • damn, ill be honest. this shit is pretty damn cool!

  • Apple should make an app like the Newton

  • dafuq

  • Why did Steve hate it?

  • ipad 0.1

  • Eat up martha.

  • I wish Apple made a Newton App that mimics all of the Newton's note-taking capability so we can use it on our iPads with styli

  • I want an E-ink Newton.

  • What an irony that they choose the name Newton when we all know that Newton's demonstrated that all apples fall and crash!

  • @systemcrash1969 Well, thats from a negative perspective. You can also say that all apples can give you an idea.

  • are you able to use any pen?

  • The Newton 100 can do 99% of that stuff but the Handwriting Recognition Sucks, Imagine how advanced that was for 1993.

  • um... your thinking about the eMate

  • It's the Galaxy Note Grandfather! D:

  • Bill Gates phone number...555-123456

  • @SGStudios13 Heh... I guess I was blind then... Sorry for the double comment DX

  • the next ipad should have a custom stylus built for it like some of the lenovo tablets...this will make editing pdfs and taking notes on the ipad soooo much easier!

  • @SGStudios13 They did, it's called an iPad...

  • when you typed the date on the newton he was like :s WTF we are in the future !!

  • very advanced for its time

  • this is the iphone of 1993

  • what really makes me giggle is that some of the things that this thing can do, current devices can't even do!

  • This thing is really cool!

  • wow, that was (still kinda "is") an ingenious little(?) device!

  • This is awesome!!! Ipad Sucks!

  • Hey i want one of these devices ! Iam only 14 years old but I love apple devices (especially the old ones ) I own one legacy device yet : An apple quick take 150 with box and cables !!!! Unfortunately I can't transfer the pictures because i don't own an computer that is as old as i can use it ! Do you know a website (except ebay, because the stuff there is often damaged) or someone where i could get one of the newtons ? Please answer back !!!!!

  • Yesterday was Thuseday

    Tommorow is Friday

Apple way ahead of any mobile device (Newton is just pre-iphone the world just wasn't ready yet)

  • He sounds like Steve Jobs. Apple needs to make a seven inch iPad, In fact, They should have just called the iPad the Newton instead.

  • writes betten than the ipad, i know that

  • @SGStudios13 they did..its called the ipad ...

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my god! I love it!

I never seen this thing before!

    Thanks dude!

  • First ipad! I would buy one if it could call

  • @ReddoFreddo get the 3g model and Skype, then you are able to make phone calls !!!!!!

  • There are some cool things I wouldn't mind seeing on my iPad or iPhone. The scribble feature is pretty nice!

  • Jobs killed the Newton when he returned to Apple presumably because it was the pet project of the man who drove him away from Apple, John Sculley. The final revision of the Newton used an ARM based processor, just like the iPhone. It's painfully obvious that had Newton development not been killed off, hardware similar to the iPhone would have been on the market much earlier. It's rather ironic that someone who kills of this tech is held to be a visionary when he is simply an amazing marketer.

  • not bad at all for that age ;)

  • One Large for that!!!!! Hell to the No!!!

  • MZ

  • 1997? I thought this was out in 1993

  • @PRT94321Anxious6s The original Newton came out in '93

  • the iphone has more lag

  • It's ashame Apple stopped making them because if they made a colour version with wifi capabilities, I'd use it as my PDA and for School and home. another thing I don't get is why they didn't keep some of these awesome features to use on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

  • Bill Gates WTF!?

  • so what's the big deal with the e-ink, you can just turn off backlight on this

  • wow :D can i have it?

  • Windows Mobile can't do that.

  • @MrThatTechGuy neither can the ipad...

  • @MrThatTechGuy i can write like that in Windows phone 6.5 when i had the omnia. too bad they didnt include it in 7 :(

  • awesome! does it has safari? ipod app? i want to buy this!

  • nice video

  • I have sloppy hand writing.

  • thats rriken easier to type than an iphone, AND ITS FUN!

  • What modle is it

  • I love it!

    and today is tuesday!

  • ipods and stuff have fancy features like bluetooth and wifi and color sceen with brighter backlight

  • I WANT IT TOO!

  • I love my Newton.. It does everything! Hehe

  • the os was called nos 2.7 on this model

  • Holy cow that things awesome !! I want 1!

  • Samsung reality

  • Apple should try adding those features in iOS 5.0 to the iPad.

  • Not a bad piece of technology from the 1990's, but also seems to be Apple's first attempt into the mobile tech world. Packed with lots of features, it is way over priced, but apple has improved, comparing the iPod touches, iPhones, and iPads, to this. Apple's newer touch screen portable devices are better, and cheaper at the fraction of the cost of this newton device. Overall, a very good concept.

  • I WANT IT

  • really interesting, thanks, great video!

  • Its interesting how this is similar to the iPhone and iPod Touch, it has the same app set up on the bottom, it even has a circular symbol on the bottom (Which resembles the home button). Just interesting how they kept some of the designs!!

  • Cooooooool

  • steve jobs obviously got the iphone from this!

  • @blazinza i thing jobs got the ipad from this, cuz it is bigger

  • @pasrvrb well, true, but the iphone is a product (idea) from the ipad, they just put the iphone into production before the ipad!

  • this guy tries so hard.. when nobody really gives a fuck!

  • It has a phone function because you can connect it to a PCI Modem

  • It really is amazing. I love my iPad but see so many features here one cannot do in that environment. Thanks so much for this!

  • i had a question can u draw like greek letters for math? like delta or sigma or like mu or w/e ? i wanna get this for math class...

  • This is sweet, I just wish I could find one cheap from a legitimate website >.<

  • I'm getting an Apple Newwton eMate!

  • Oh the irony, putting Bill Gates down as a contact on an apple product lol

  • This is so genius, innovative, and natural that I'm honestly surprised that Apple made this.

  • I wonder if its got Angry Birds...

  • @EllsMurray Lol.

  • How is the Newton able to tell a phone to call a number?

  • @abehammy WIthout using a PCMCIA card, it was possible to hold a Newton up to a phone and then have it "Dial" the number.

The MessagePad's speaker would play the tones in the same way a phone would when you pressed each number and if you held the speaker near the receiver, the phone network would hear a number being dialled and respond accordingly.

  • @treemctree thats actually pretty cool

  • Epic! Copy & Paste FTW!

  • This thing is sweet! I kind of want one now :)

  • I wanna live in the 90 FOREVER!

  • it still looks like new!

  • Grr...you win this time Miniman!

  • I want one!!!

    I'm in love with it...

  • I think I want one as well.. hehe :)

  • The Newton and Apple hates Bill Gates.

  • The assist button is extremely cool, they really should add it to phones now!

  • Damn, that thing is smart!

  • This was like 1,000 Bucks, and I got it for about 50.

  • Wow. We could be so much more advanced today. If we had usedthis technology. And if Steve Jobs didn't cancel the Newton.

  • iPhone does have copy and paste

  • @Macintosh3745 check the date on the video

  • wow its smarter than the ipad

  • wow the software idea was ahead of its time and sadly ahead of some of the stuff out now. though the device is really ugly

  • @1bnb25 true.....true...

  • windows mobile can't do it but nor can iphone

  • $1000 all the way down to $50 today ;)

  • What's funny is that after watching this I really want one of these...

  • The geometry tool reminds me a lot of Ivan Sutherland's Sketchpad. The Sketchpad was one of the the earliest GUIs.

  • Keep in mind, the problem was due to its really REALLY shitty predecessors. People were ready, it just didn't deliver. The 2100 has an epic 162 MHz processor. The original Newtons had 20-25 MHz. They were slow, had a low res screen, they had shitty battery life, and didn't have 16 shades in black and white. THAT was the problem. This Newton 2100 came out 4 years later and FINALLY became awesome, but it was too little, too late (and too expensive, $1000?!)

  • I wouldn't be surprised to see a Newton App on the iPad.

  • pretty intelligent firmware and good fast device for the 90's

    good vid

  • creative techtivity you probably do not even know about the ipad . well i do and this is not smater than a ipad !

  • ipad just beat this

  • THIS IS SMARTER THAN AN IPAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i think the ugly green backlight is freaking awesome, but does it really burn out? and that easily too?

  • Ummmm alright i never said anything bad about it dude clam down its an old peice of junk no one uses anymore causes its OLD!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OLD, but AMAZING, i want one!!!

  • My grandma still uses the newton, seriously she walks around with it EVERYWHERE!..... It's embarrassing :P

  • @ShutUpChannel how is that embarrassing?

  • @ShutUpChannel Ok again how is that embarrassing,

I just think your jealous you do not own it.

  • @ShutUpChannel wth its frikin cool!

  • @ShutUpChannel excuse me, its called using advanced technology.. EVEN IF ITS OLD. coz other hardware that was made in the same time frame was crap compared to this ... !

  • @ShutUpChannel At lease your grandma can use technology newer than 25 years old.

  • @ShutUpChannel They're still useful if you need nothing more. I take my palm pilot everywhere I go.

  • Makes you realize how advanced the Newton was for it's day. As a PDA goes, the Newton kicks every other devices *ss.

  • What I like best about Newton is the sensible OS and the programming language they came up with for the device... That's what I call innovation.

As far as iPhone/Pad dev is concerned, Objective-C they are cramming down everyone's throats is beginning to age badly. Seriously, in terms of true innovation in programming tools I would say Apple's lagging behind MS.

  • My idea is to turn out to be app for ipad

    Thank you

  • iphones grandpa

  • Great this Newton MassegePad is the grandfathers of The iPhone

  • I have to wonder if the underlying goal is to sort of laugh at this Newton. The guy comes across a bit insincere. What can I call it... passive-criticism? Its as if he found it in a time capsule, the Newton and then since he's so tech-savy, that he knows so much about it. A shame in my view, because this apparently is the de-facto MessagePad 2K presentation on the YouTubes.

  • @wendileona @wendileona He's not trying to laugh at it, he's just trying to show it to people. Also, he does seem to know a lot about the device, so get off his case.

  • In my experience, I actually was a 2000 owner way back about 10 years ago. I loved it. Eventually I had to move on, but just about a year ago I bought another for a Getting Things Done need, I still love it but found that it really, really retro. On the other extreme I bought an iPhone, it was too much for me, annoying tech-candy. The Newton is very focused, no web, no color icons, no gesturing, just focused on getting work done. Can still work today, I still feel like I can use one.

  • This is the first apple product i have ever felt like i wanted.

  • where can i buy one?

  • @marksulleza ebay

  • this is a mobile version of appleworks

  • They should put some of those features

  • eat up martha

  • these are still kinda expensive for a device that old

  • @Lukaz1989 Not really since its a collectors piece, And that people still want this device.

  • the newton came out in 1993

  • @norton5315 Yeah the OMP (Original message pad) or Newton MP 100.

but he is using a Newton 2100 which came out in November 1997.

  • this is how they got the idea of the ipad

  • my mom has one of these and im ganna use it now i love this thing idk why its soooo old but its so much fun to use

  • @coyform Just because its old done mean anything.

  • the iphone still doesnt have copy and paste but the newton has hahaha

  • The iPhone has copy and paste.

  • i know it has but in that year it didnt have, and its funny hahah

  • yea, 3.0 added it

  • @maxmennet The iphone has copy and paste

  • Of course the world wasn't ready for it... it was $1,000 for a mobile device....the price of this made it a complete FAIL.

Apple didn't wanna make the same mistake twice with the iPad...sure they could of mad a macbook air like touchcreen with only display and isight cam..but it would of cost at least $2500

  • awesome device!! I will get one

  • Haha...wait your joking right...please tell me your joking...

  • @Darkpower46 yes i was lol its old and ugly as FUCK

  • ¿It´s posible to change the language German to spanish? Thanks

  • i wonder what apple will come up with in the next ten years

  • I've got two of these from when they first came out ;)

  • i want one

  • It's smaller than the iPad!

  • i wish the iPad could do this

  • Does anybody kind of want one of these now?

  • i kind of do haha

  • @Juicyfendi well i do...i love apple vintage products...i am a collector,i have a macintosh plus,a quadra 950,a performa 6360 and laserwriter 8500.And i've been searching for one of these newtons...god i love apple!

  • Geez that's a lot of Apple stuff

The oldest Apple product I have is 16 years old it is a Macintosh PowerBook 180c

the second oldest is a iMac G3 in a indigo colour

  • lol the iPhone doesnt have copy and paste?!!? LOL I dont know what he means by how far we have NOT come. Because I can do everything he showed and that the iPhone does on my Windows Mobile ATT Tilt 2

  • @AlmightySR Really? It smooths shapes? There is a lot of intuitive aspects that have been left out in todays Smart Phones.

Plus look at the Processor and Memory specs, can your ATT Tilt2 do it on the same memory?

  • dude, this video was made 2 years ago, only the iphone 3gs can copy and paste, the iphone 3g cant, and there was only the iphone 3g at the time.

  • When he made this video the iPhone did not have copy and paste. and to this day no device can do all what the newton can. and i highly doubt anything will.

Lits see what your tilt can do if running at 162mhz with 4mb ram and 4mb storage ? Not much

  • Yeah but this could do it 10 years before your stupid fucking Windows Mobile.

And the Newton was a really smart device. If they had expanded on it it would have been amazing today.

  • LOL - 15 minutes to write three words and draw a triangle and circle!

  • No wrong, he showed and explained what and how to do things within that time. watch the video again.

  • This is actually pretty cool

  • This is really an amazing device! I'm really impressed how intuitive it is if you think about how old it is. Still today this is really unbelievably good..

  • amazing device

  • correction iphone does have copy and paste

  • This is old. it didnt at the time

  • look how old this video is. the iPhone didnt have that ability then.

  • "September 09, 2008"

He also clearly states that this is just a comparison for modern devices.

  • Yep, i own a Newton MP 2100 and still his input showed me how to do somethings due to his attention to detail when he was explaining things. I have owned it for 3 years and still finding out stuff to do on this thing.

The thing works even if its old. still can be used for allot that some of todays tech still cant do or do correctly.
