  • Its missing the crunch, sounds too clean. People dont understand what Rick Rubin was trying to do, was making it sound like it was teeetering on the edge. There is nothing wrong with the way it sounds, fuck, ride the lightning sounds like it was rcorded in a bathroom but noone seems to care about that!

  • I prefer the quality on the album :L

  • WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWAYY better!!

  • wow, it sounds really nice

  • pretty gooood...

  • listen closely and you can hear the bassline, especially in the beginning. How can you miss it? It's bad a--. It drops....so bad a--

  • i love your mix. its awesome. does the song a lotta justice. metallica rulezzz

  • I hear people complain about the quality. I'm just glad I found the song that's not a live performence and hasn't been yanked by copyright.

  • sounds like the guitars are too loud and panned too far to the left and right channels

  • @bobjackson85 Panning guitars hard left and right is used quite bit when recording. Overdubs can be panned a little closer to center to separate them, but I think this sounds pretty cool for a remix project. I like the way the regular album sounds. Brick wall compression that gets added during mastering kills dynamics and pushes everything up front, but for this album, i think it works most of the time.

  • @aliensoulleech

The levels was already peaking after the mixing, the mastering studio didn't have anything to do with it.

It's how Rick Rubin makes albums, listen to any of his later albums and they peak.

  • This isn't any better at all.

  • instructions for maximizing the actual recording

    1. download from itunes

    2. play through half decent speakers OR

    3. play through an ipod with half decent headphones

youtube vieos are by nature shitty

  • where is the bass track, you forgot the bass, your bad

    but metallica is badass

  • It still clips.....

  • it sounds different? =/

  • What happened to the Bass Guitar?

  • problem u can hear the bass

  • I fuckin hate people like this, Metallica makes their best music since Justice/Black Album and they bitch about the quality. Be happy they actually made a great album.

  • @ApplesNCrapholes right. be content with mediocrity. excellent motto for living.

  • You did this with iZotope Ozone 3 - Standart Preset

  • this songs are fucking badass

    but hte quality is poor

    metallica still kicks ass

  • don't think it's better, different, drums too loud, vocal harmonies vanished, but i like how certain things got clearer

  • lol? why

  • So much better than the cd. I was shattered when i heard it on gh.

  • we have a bunch of whiners and complaniers, its metallica this is one of their best albums, yea of course their not gunna sound like master of puppets because that was almost 20 years ago, their still kicking ass tho

  • Lars is too old... they are trying to hide his limitations...

I loved this version, sounds more old school...

  • its not 100% better but its a lil better i like the distored sound of the cd

  • If only James' voice sounded better in this mix lol.

  • This is freakin' awesome, yet so depressing at the same time. If only "name" could do the rest of the songs, just as an alternative DM for fans who don't like the original mix.

I guess this is the *third* version of broken, beat & scarred out there. Maybe in ten years it will be "remastered", and sound worse than before :D

  • hehe, true

  • its a metal band, who gives a shit about drums

  • wtf, joke comment much?

  • if this was originally on the cd i'd love it...

while i agree it sounds alot better i do believe that it was remixed now it would be nowhere as good as it's original feel

  • metallica owns every metal band.

  • For some reason i think the demo version of this song is fucking AWESOME

  • well you are definately when it comes to music editing but i do prefer the original...and everyone that thinks that the crappy producing on this album is rick rubin's fault is 100% wrong...it was not engineered by rick rubin..the guy who mixed and mastered it just knew it sounded terrible and kept his name off of him... and now rick rubin is getting blamed, which sucks cause rick rubin is amazing

  • More Remixezz NAO!!!!!

  • I've heard both version i downloaded the guitar heroe version in my opinion that version just sucks the energy out of the album when listen to the official it's loud awesome and you can hear everything, yes it's slightly distorted but it doesn't ruin. The guitar heroe version is just boring and I think Rick rubin is a great prfoducer just listen to reign in blood and say otherwise. People just complain too much just enjoy the fucking you dumbfucks

  • I agreed with you at one point too

However, I love the dynamic this version has

You can HEAR everything little thing.

The strumming, the cymbals, and even the bass.

It feel much better when it's loud than the retail version

  • hust enjoy the fucking? xD

  • add &fmt=18 IN THE URL!

    IT SOUNDS SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!

  • ohh i love the riff at 1:00!! it's so freakin awesome!!!

  • fuck remixes. listen to it some good quality hifi, i.e. several thousand pounds worth of it. sounds the fuckin bollocks. this album is sooo good it would sound mint on walkman speakers with your head in a fuckin bucket!

  • a high end system actually makes this album sound worse than it does on an average stereo. it was mixed for ipods with ear buds.

  • IMO, this sounds worse than the CD version.

Sounds way too tinny and "amateurish." Like..I know I'm listening to fan remix.

Sound quality complaints on DM are so overblown. The majority who are complaining are only doing so because they read on the internet about it. It's ridiculous.

  • I think Death Magnetic is Metallica better than ever. The work they've done on some of their songs, especially Cyanide, just blows me away. They run like four different songs together on that track and it comes together in a sound that we've never before heard from Metallica.

  • I think they've successfully reinvented their sound with Death Magnetic, and oldschool "fans" just can't handle that. It doesn't matter though because the more you listen to Death Magnetic, the better it sounds, as you hear more of the nuance you didn't hear before, and begin to realize how immaculately constructed each track is. Breathtaking, really. I think once people take the time to listen to this album, they'll come around.

  • i hope there is another album they can put out. i love metallica. i just never got into kill em all but i love everything else! i love st anger too. idont give a shit what people have to say about st anger i think its great..

  • dude thank god someone that likes st.anger, wtf its a great album with incredible riffs, ok the drums don't sound good and all that, there's no solos but....is it necesary to include solos ALWAYS¿¿ I don't think so..look at grind music, napalm death, canni9bal corpse, they don't have solos in every song and they're awesome. People just talk shit about st.anger cause evryone does, fuck them.

  • St anger was well...bad..but not as bad as people say it is.shitty snare was a disaster and no solos basically was just trendy but i really cant blame bob rock for that. There are a couple songs on that album i bang my fuckin head to all the fucking time but it's not a great album.

  • i kind of like the snare. =D it sounds good on the songs to me ^^

  • @signofthehammer Agreed. The lack of solos arguement is weak at best, some of the best music in the world has no guitar solos and the trend they speak of lies within nu-metal, which st. anger is NOT. Obviously these people have never heard of COC and others in that genere. The riffs in My World and All Within My Hands are clearly not Linkin Park and Korn based.

  • i know how u feel the first time i heard the judas kiss and cyanide i was like wtf???!!! en then one week later is headbanging like i have not done before :p these songs grow on you for some reason

  • wow

  • wow amazing it sounds so mighty and great!

    awesome!!

  • so mighty ?XD ......just sayin' that sounds corny...im not dissin u .

  • I love that slide type scratch thing Kirk does at 4:45, because I couldn't hear it on the album...

  • sounds the same to me...

  • moron the snare is different and the background noise is almost completely gone your hearing is terible as you are.

  • maybe ;)

  • Amazing

  • there are rumors of metallica that they will remake death magnetic to correct some things like distrosion and more

  • The drums sound better in this but I liked the vocals and guitars on the CD better.

  • can you stop fucking complaining about metallicas music, if you dont like their music dont bother listen to it

  • damn right

  • Not that i dont like it, i love it and its the only band i like. But they fucked up the cd with the sound. They recorded it on max, so the quality is really downgraded.

  • I agree, too much reverb and too slick, lost all it's power and crunch..cliff said it best when he said he wanted to make an album that sounded like their live sound, dry and in your face and not so much reverb like on kill and ride. Hence puppets and justice for all was born. This just sounds manufactured. im sorry but the criticism of the cd quality is way overly exaggerated, it sounds fine.

  • can you please do this to the rest of the songs? lmao you should mix metallica's next album. the fucker who did the last one dont know shit.

  • Okay before I get to my comment... Yes I am a blond and I`m a girl. Yes I love Metallica. They`re awesome!

Now... This song does sound better than the CD version, but not 100x... still great song though!

  • Fuck this is nice.awesome job!

The riff at 1:00 is so awesome

  • I agree man, I LOVE that riff. Is it just me or does the riff itself sound like old school Iron Maiden?

  • Well, of course. BECAUSE THIS IS METALLICA! THEIR RIFFS ARE THARR BEST!

  • ...And the Monster wake up again... METALLICA, YEAH!!! BEST THAN EVER

  • that actually does sound sweet! nice job dude...but its all about the live shows now and the next cd i dont see them giving much of a fuck about everyone crying because of the sound issues! im just glad they made some kick ass songs after st anger!....

  • 1000x better than CD!!!

  • the cd version is much better, crying bitches.

  • This is better....James's voice is much clearer.

  • i can hear the drums, crisp, clean and clear

  • much better the drums are not as loud and eveything is overall crisper

  • either way, the song is kick ass

  • yeah sounds better but oh well =/ the cd version is still good.

  • allow you dude Tallica still rule the world x

  • It's technically better sounding but doesn't have the edge of the original mix. I can hear more detail though. Nice!

  • WOW! Goes on to prove how much production counts... ...really! Infinitely better. I hope they remix the album soon.

  • your remix rocks!! it's amazing! you made a miracle! please, make it available on FLAC!

  • sounds like a bad live recording . and i dont like the snare drum to much reverb

  • 1:00

  • All I hear is more more end and more overtones on the snare. It really doesn't sound better to me.

  • well it is a lot much better.

i dont know if it is my 2.1 sound system, BUT, next time, the audio channel for the voice of james is just a little bit like "radio" stuff, you know, you have to clean it more, or just wave down the sound of it.

But its good man! i cant do better! its just a simply comment right?

    Keep doing the great job.

    cyya!

  • my fave song in DM \m/!

  • hmmmm it does sound better when i compare the 2

  • yes i definatly hear a difference but both are good. no one beats metallica!

  • Actually Iron Maiden beats Metallica now. But if we are talking about early Metallica then yes no body beats Metallica.

  • This sounds good. I wish they mixed it better. I didnt really care for thier choice of distortions either. I dig the 80's crunch thats all over puppets.

  • THROUGH BLACK DAYS

    THROUGH BLACK NIGHTS

    Much better. MUCH MUCH better.

Oh, and this song was the fucking shit live.

  • sounds much better, i can actually hear lars double bass better

  • I have to say, from a musician's and mastering standpoint, this song is indefinitely better in this mix. There are a great number of subtle chord changes and note progressions that you can't very well notice because the mix on the original leaves it feeling underdeveloped and monotonous.

Entirely better, thank you mystery mixer.

  • bem melhor

    much better

  • rick rubin didnt mix or master death magnetic. he was just the producer.

  • WOW, thats fucking sick bro. that makes the cd sound like there a wall between my ear and the speaker. Great job.

  • INSANE!!!

    Better than R. Rubin

  • hey dude!! your better than rick rubin!

finally i could listen that lars is using double kick again.

but probably, that was metallica's fail, 'cause Slayer's Diabolus in Musica has a very agressive mixing.

    keep workin man!!!!

  • You can't notice the distortion in the CD version if you BLAST IT, it was meant to be played loud, VERY loud, not quietly...c'mon, its fuckin METAL!! its meant to be played loud

  • I did like the mixing, but I think you should've started with And Justice For All... seriously, dude. Tha band is the author of the album and the way they want it to be the final version IS THE FINAL VERSION, even if yours sounds better (and it does).

  • at 0:21, does he say rape me?

  • Better than Rick Rubin.

  • The fact the vocals are clear makes you see how bad James is, and on the original you might even think he is good. The dirty confuse at times sound is all part of it, it improves the listening, it´s not like St. Anger where it was real shit really, this time it´s dirty but good.

  • fuck you, the vocals seem much better this way.

  • well, fuck you! It´s cleaner but that doesn´t make it better in no way.

  • The album sounds the way it should sound for a thrash album, this version might be more clear on instruments and etc. and a more heareble voice whatever, but it didn´t improve on the experience of listening to the it as a whole, actualy this version made me get bored at this song.

  • The CD version is much better... cleared the drums, but fucked up the guitars! All the Death Magnetic's "Guitar Hero" mixing are too clear, awful to listen out of GH. The original versions are much better.

  • Go Analogic. Go Real...Forget about this 44khz/16bits stuff.

  • Why cant Metallica admit flatout that when they were in Europe Rick Rubin FUCKED UP the endgame and destroyed the sound?

  • yes the drums are clear more than the original but.....I like more the original...I don't know why....here the guitar it doesn't sound so clear...so the original ...better..........but this is good too...god job;)

  • Hey Tom ficou otima a remixagem

Hey cara por favor remixa o cd todo POR FAVOR

  • SHOW

    YOUR

    SCARS

Fuckin love this shiiit man, i was so gutted at the production quality ruining all the fucking solos on this record. Geez Metalica, not ONYL is it 2008, but as one of the worlds richest ,metal bands, with your own studio and all you would have thought the production quality would be far superior to your previous albums. Alas, 1990's The Black ALbum still surpasses Death Magnetic sound quality wise. *Sigh*

    Still a great album. 5 starrs-ah!

  • Tom Daly, you're the man!!!!

What you did is so much better...my ears say thank you!!!!

  • Tom Daly, you are tha MAN!!!!

What you did it is so years light better than the original...I say again, YOU'RE THE MAN!!!!!

    DEUS TE ABENÇÕE!!!!

  • God Bless Tom Daly!

    \m/

  • where is the guitars?

  • Are you surd?

  • Sounds cleaner, but also sounds like the guitars are playing in the background. I prefer the CD version.

  • huge fail on the rythmn guitar volume when the solo kicks in, you can clearly notice the volume goes down...

Please people, stop ruining Death Magnetic's personality! Every Metallica album has one, many people complained about St Anger but its a great album with a great personality mix wise...

  • excellent point!

volume goes way down when the solo starts

  • LOL

  • AMAZING!!!

  • what is the DIFFERENCE FOR GOD'S SAKE

  • Listen to both versions, alternating from one to another, and if u don't see the difference go to an otorrinolaringologist. This one is so much clean. Not to say that this saved the album but... it is better.

  • I prefer the original not sounding 90´s.

  • I cant open the video.

  • As Gary Holt said, Rick Rubin sucks!

  • for all of you complaning about the guitar volume in this one: the guy remixed it using 6 channels, 2 of them being already jammed into one channel (drums and vocals); you can't have a high guitar volume in a mix where the drums and vocals are on top of everything, cuz if you do that, then you'll have the original DM mix (lol). If he put the guitar on top of it, then the drums/vocals should have been lower, which would sound odd to a metal/rock record.

  • awesome! geat job!

  • Awesome!!!

*Try to listem playin original song on your music player.

First you listem a piece from original, them after you play here. And you will see THE diference ;)

  • Awesome, great job ! I just hope that the band sees this........

  • Things like this makes me wonder why there are just jerks working and earning money for low quality service, while one single dude does it 100000x better, and gets no money for the well done work.

  • Is there a URL with the all the album remixed like this?

  • awesome!!!

1000000 times better than the album

  • Great job...

But I have to say this: 99% of the people complainin' to the sound of the album are the same people that download mp3 instead of buying the cd...

Ah, the irony of it all...

  • man! keep going! great job! i can't wait for the others songs!!!

  • everything sweet, but the bass...you are not meant to be touched by the bass with metallica...is in james fist that their power relies on...thought that this was pretty clear to everyone, but fuck me..i was wrong!

cut this awful bass off and keep the rest of the changes!

  • Congratulations, dude!Fantastic job!I barely can wait for your next remixes...

  • Awesome! I can hear the bass!!!

  • incredible !!!!

  • Jesus... and I bought the Coffin Box. I want a CD remixed from them like this way or my MONEY BACK!

  • Wow, incredible how this version doesn't hurt my ears!

  • indeed better

  • Good.Rick Rubin is a monummental hack.

  • loved it!! great portfolio for you and a great song finally mixed in a way we can hear! I loved the new songs, but I cannot listen to them because of the sound quality! please do the same with the other tracks!

  • Too*

  • Really?

    I don't like it.

To clear for a THRASH METAL band!

The double bass part seems like a FAGGISH melodic metal bands.

    Go listen Kill em' All!

Death Magnetic 1000x times better than this crappy version to hear in an iPod. Dude, go back to vynil era, coz there is the REAL music.

  • It just seems clear because the guiars were recorded properly , it's not crush like AJFA..Not fault of the mix, fault of Rick Rubin.

  • The drums are much clearer now. Congratulations, dude!

  • Greetings from Brazil!

That next album they call you to do the mixing and mastering!

Good job! Keep it up and why does the same job with the rest of the CD?

  • Congrats....its a shame that this song version will never be on a original record.Really awesome.Respect to you man.

  • Man, can you make it on every song of DM??

  • good work!!!

that music is just perfect now!!!

    you have some talent!!!

  • Perfect.

  • great job!

  • MAn, YOU did a great job !! PLEASE do this with all songs and then upload this on rapidshare or something like that, let us know man.

    CONGRATS!!

  • The other version sound rougher though.

  • much better than the original

  • Wow, a mix that actually has breathing room. And you can hear each time the guitars are picked. What is wrong with liking what music used to be and not where it is at now. I just don't get why people would rather music sound like it does now compared to 10-20 years ago! I can turn the volume up myself, THANKS!

  • I love the original mix.....Supporting VOLUME WAR!!...DM heaviest record of the decade...

  • YOU CAN NOT CORRECT something that is PERFECT !!! this is a sin even if it is worth that thing, szablo

  • props to the remixer.

  • maybe someone could do a direct comparison and load it up.

  • This song is awesome man. DM simply signify the rise of THE Metallica!

  • ehm.. what's wrong with the orriginal BBS? Or better yet the entire death magnetic?

  • The production of the CD makes the guitars sound like a cat giving an elderly man an enima. The drums sound like folgers cans and the bass is almost non audible. The GH Mix is amazing though. The CD gives me a headache when i listen to it(especially with headphones)

  • Moderus remix is best remaster

  • Words can't even describe how much I love this mix. It has alot more bottom, I can actually hear the masterful bass work in this song. And the snare isn't too prominent but it is when its needed. I'm on the verge of tears right now.

  • thiz i sick
