I practise jodo (10th kyu at the moment) and I'm very interested in this budo. Too bad that the place closest to Helsinki (my hometown) where practising Jukendo is possible is Sapcote, UK =_=...
Really surprised they do not use the buttstroke at all. Especially when they clinch up, it would be very easy to just push your right hand around like a hook punch and put the buttstroke into the opponent's head. I guess it has something to do with jukendo being based on sojutsu.
@cobramgh Kendo doesn't even allow strikes to the stomach because it's too "cheap" against Jodan and was wiping out the stance. This doesn't surprise me at all.
@AndikaHargianto I'm almost certain it is, otherwise it makes no sense that two world champion level combatants are not using it. I'm sure it's because of the sport aspect, to "balance" the game and "clean up" the savagery of actual fighting.
@ZWIPPMANN Its a traditional/cultural thing. It supposedly started because the Japanese would take off their shoes to keep the floor clean. Its common these days that you take your shoes off and put another pair of gym shoes on when you enter.
But anyway, dress shoes arnt allowed on that area as it scuffs the floor.
And why socks? have you ever seen someone in a suit with barefeet? :)
Well, the people doing the dueling were wearing special gym shoes, as would a basketball player.
I don't think this is stupid, I think it is rather useful; I've been to schools both in US and Japan, and the floors back in Japan are considerably cleaner and better maintained despite the fact that many of them were older than the ones I saw in US.

@cobramgh You are right... Is it against the rule of Jukendo?

This looks very interesting, I follow Kendo, but this reminds me of Naginata, just slightly different, and a different target

@ZWIPPMANN Because it damages the floor and make it dirty; its like how Asians take their shoes off when they go indoors.
in Japan one uses special shoes to use the Gym in, or just wear socks. That show they keep the floor so clean.
imjustmakingthisstup 3 months ago
@imjustmakingthisstup That's like saying basketball players should wear only socks,
that way they can keep the floor clean.
Don't you think it's stupid? besides nobody goes to duel wearing only socks.
