Empty Dreams: The Plight of Urban Schools

I am a teacher at an Urban High School. I agree with virtually everything this gentleman speaks of, except for the "High Expectations" theory. Folks think that if you expect from a child, then they will automatically do better. In reality, more often then not, when we raise expectations to a learner who is already severely behind, they shut down. I wish I knew the solution, but it is not raising expectations alone.

It is true that all children may not live up to expectations placed upon them, but challenging them to be the best they can be should be communal mantra. Earl, Another Great Video. I really love the content and the whole idea about the UWSP.

Although I am not American your ideas have made me question many things in our own economy in the UK.

Keep educating the the next generation. I feel that after the 50s and 60s uprising of "Urban" people in the USA that our generation have been wasted our time. It takes strong people such as yourself to make a difference.

Just 1 thing.. what is up with the lighting/quality of this vid?
