  • @Pilgrim812 these things take time. the civil war ended in 1865, but it wasn't until nearly a century later that the civil rights movement began for the african-american community. it takes time for people to understand that we're all the same. we're all human. it's such a simple concept, yet so many people are raised to notice our differences rather than our similarities. day by day, things are getting better, and i thoroughly believe we're on the right path to equality.

    already know. But to me this is personal because I am 60 years old and gay. I am

    also acutely aware to the role that the flawed theology of religions pertaining to human sexuality and political demagouges have played. Real morality is not about supporting

    religious dogma. Real morality seeks to alleviate human suffering from whatever source

    it emanates and wherever it is to be found. That was my point.
