  • @Detman101 perfect!!!!

  • ok .... fantastic video....I like your style! Just picked up a Line 6 DL4 ... what tap whould I use to get this delay, (I believe it is referred to the dotted 8th) using the DL4? Thanks....great stuff by the way

  • @THEFUNDAMENTALVIEW dl4 is the best!!! Just be careful in that it tends to break down pretty fast and easy! Treat it good :) I use one as well every day for loooping and I have to buy a new one every year or so... :(

  • Man you really rock!

  • @TheCaimaks as do you...thanks for commenting!

  • great explanation

  • @BZnBoston nice!!!

  • Thanks for showing me a way how to use a delay pedal :)

  • @Ferdie123 all good ferdie!!! PEace to you!

  • Cool stuff bro...love ur vibe.

  • @BullhornGuy all good mang!!! You pump me up!

  • hey bro, i've been checkin out your vids, very cool stuff! I was just wondering what kind of equipment did you use here?, I mean, is it pedals? what is it? I'm interested, I just uploaded a song and I thought I could really use the effects that you use here, I really dig those sounds man, get back at me please, tell me what brand it is, model, etc. I would help a lot. Have a nice one bro!

  • @slashoasis156 on this video I'm using built in effects on a small roland practice amp

  • This video helped so much. I was playing round with delays for so long and couldnt get the sound. This one video sorted it for and now I cant stop using my delay. Love it. Cheers mate. Keep it going!

  • Love your work fella!

  • Yes nice feel man :P (; it's dotted 8th notes, so when you strike the note, (by strumming down as The Edge does it) you basically,, strum twice as quick (but your actually not) :D niceeee what pedal you using man?

  • my god, i love the introduction!

  • That's not really a triplet pattern you're demonstrating. Those are 16ths. Thanks tho.

  • The Edge also use a Herdim Pick.

  • are you using back pickup bro?

  • You're a down to earth guy man thanks heaps for this u2 to me are the best band for inspiration. I'm in a band and were going for this sound I love what you've done to still havent found what I'm looking for.

  • What a great personality you are. Great lesson my man

  • thank you, god bless

  • That is s special mouth. Good Job.

  • The best delay i find is the TC Electronic Nova Delay or the Nova Repeater is good too.

I always the Studio Delay with the Dotted Eighth note mixed with a Quarter note. It's awesome. Add some light chorus and you've got the greatest delay sound in the world!

  • nothing like u2 ... you're playing it all wrong. however, I love the improvising...good delay riffs you got...true dat.

  • This is sweet. This is just what I have been trying to do for ages but could never work it out. You are my actual living hero! What make is the pedal you are using?

  • its dotted eighths...

  • you are so spastic man!!! thank you so much :)

  • This freaks me out. For years I was trying to figure this out but I never get there for some reason. You explain the basics in a few minutes.....It's better do to this by ear and tap in the tempo because most drummers are not playing a song twice the same way....Great video man. Thanks a lot !!!

  • one more thing.

dude. you're right about electric guitarists playing like its an acoustic. that drives me insane. but the way you play those U2 riffs ain't right man, mainly Where the Streets Have No Name. I mean no disrespect, this is supposed to be constructive criticism.

  • Ladies and gentlemen, we call this triplet delay. This is very simple. If the song is in 4/4 time, using a tap tempo, tap the tempo every 3 beats. Like this. Tap on the ones with a T next to them.

    1t-2-3-4t-1-2-3t-4-1-2t-3-4

    Hope this helped.

  • hey thank you man.

    that really helped me.

    god bless you =]

  • setting a delay? ever heard of bpm or milliseconds....

  • sorry randy,

this has not the slightest resemblance with u2,..."it s very simple " you say, yes ,maybe , but no trace of u2.....

    berher

  • wow thanks so much! I got almost the same exact sound that U2 has thanks to you. Thanks!

  • good video, but you dont have a triplet delay, you have the standard delay just straight tempo

  • dude i love that riff you play like 6 minutes in please post the tabs or notes or somthing

  • Great exlaining man. But how much Delay is it now. 400 ms? I get only 1 repeating stroke sound.

  • whoa...you're intelligent...

  • HAHAHAHAHA

  • Comment removed

  • your really good i could probably play just as fast as any guitarist but i cant seem to get it to sound as good

  • What brand of pedal is that?

  • Positive ;)

  • thanks for contributing great advice man!!

  • hey did u say your a child of awana?

  • Amazing! Great Lesson! Thanks!

  • Great lesson if you want it to sound like a completely different version than the actual song.

  • It's more about the sound than the actual notes, as he says

  • wow thank you for this. Your amazing. Im definitly checking out the pod cast and your site.

  • Wow thanks. I've been playing for over 40 years (for fun only). The most effects I have ever used are a wah-wah (only occasionally), distortion pedal, and a super tube. Learning your stuff is similar to if I've been eating my whole life and my taste buds just starting working! Thanks a million for putting this out there.

  • dude you have alot of energy. thank you for bringin it real i havent pulled ou my delay pedal in awhile but its comin out now YES!!!

  • quillo eres muy nervioso pichita

  • Thank so much from Spain.

    Music will make us free.

  • well done bro!

  • i have the same laundry hamper lol

  • Great video man, totally nails the edge!

  • Very good instruction... To summarize:

    (1) Set your delay time to dotted 8ths notes.

    (2) Tap or dial in the tempo (bpm) of the song.

    (3) Set your delay mix to slightly less than 50%. Experiment to get the feel you want.

    (4) If available, cut the treble on your delay to < 50% so that the repeated notes aren't as bright as the ones you actually play.

    (5) Play 8th notes, and dig what you're playing!

  • You are great! Great player, great personality. I'm signing up!

  • Great stuff! :D

  • Excellent instruction! palm muting and very light strumming is a must with delay! Thank you!

  • Great video!!!

  • What the Edge uses is called dotted eigths. The Echo Park pedal does it automatically. Great pedal. I got it on sale from Guitar Center for 90 bucks. I instantly started sounding like the Edge. Incredible.

  • Nice, thnx mate ! :P
