  • I HAVE MET ROBERT RANDOLPH AROUND THREE MONTHS AGO, TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH I DONT LIKE HIS MUSIC AT ALL.BUT IT IS NOT ONLY HIS MUSIC I DONT LIKE, IT IS JUST THE FACT HE HAS A DOUBLE PERSONALITY REALLY SCARES ME.HE HIRED ME TO DO A JOB FOR HIM, I AM A SINGLE FATHER WHO TAKES CARE OF MY SON, ROBERT RANDOLPH NEVER PAID ME FOR THE JOB I DID IN HIS HOUSE, A NICE HOUSE IN WEST ORANGE NJ BUT ONLY HE COULD AFFORD IT. HE CAN AFFORD ANYTHING EXCEPT TAKING CARE O A POOR GUY LIKE ME. GOD BLESS YOU ROBERT

  • no need for vocals on this song, his guitar sings it all

  • RRR (Robert Randolph Rules :))

  • WOW!! These katz are flippin' awesome!

  • WOW!!! These katz are flippin' awesome!

  • Truly a genius. This guy blew me away. I actually found him in 2000, and I've been a fan ever since. I mean, c'mon, pedal steel, man?? Are you fucking kidding me??

  • im a grown f**kin man but to be honest robert randolph made me cry when i saw him play live.. seen infinite amounts of blues bands but this guy.... this guy just has somethin more

  • Not a MJ fan, but Robert Randolph and his band plays that song like the OWN it!!! YES :)

  • MJ would be MORE than proud ! RR&THFB are amazing !

  • this band is amazing not just robert randolph everyone in his band is so talented if u ever get a chance to go see him life don't pass it up he puts on one of the best live shows out there hands down

  • never relized it but the bass player looks like b.o.b lol

  • yes to all I just experienced.

  • I have only heard a pedal steel scream its guts out on a friends track, till now, on a guitar processor yay bout time, such an underrated instrument.

  • not the biggest Michael Jackson fan ever. But Robert Randolph and his kin can lay down a tune and make it rock. I also find it funny that they (Robert's family) come from outside of the secular community and they all have better skills than any other musicians coming out today... save a few. They have learned a good list of classic tunes and they do their own thing.

  • what is that thing called that he's playing? the guitar/piano thingie?

  • @monkybizzness2u oh, Pedal steel guitar. guess I could have scrolled down :P

  • The man is a genius !

    Funky finger pickiing master !

  • HOLY SHIT! I THINK THIS IS THE SICKEST THING I HAVE EVE HEARD!!! sorry abot the caps im not usually a fag like that but this is the shit

  • Robert Randolph is having a T-shirt design contest! They have more info on their website.

  • worst crowd ever?

  • @bradmason123 they were melding to michaels memory lol

  • I'm always amazed about how much this keyboard player is a beast !! tight band !

  • This is interesting for about 8 bars

  • effing brilliant!! These guys rock! The sitting down guitar instrument (sorry, have no idea what it's called and when I tried to google "sitting down guitar" all I got was base and cello) made it sound just like someone was singing it....freakin' awesome.

  • @Cuchifrito it's called a pedal steel guitar and it's used primarily in gospel and country music. Robert Randolph has taken the instrument out of the church and brought it to rock music. His live shows are an AMAZING experience. They are full of so much energy it's ridiculous!

  • @Cuchifrito Holy shit there are nimrods in the world who don't know what a pedal steel is. So much for Darwin's theory.

  • @pretorious700 If knowledge of pedal steel is crucial to create progeny and get them to the point where they can do the same, then indeed his theory have have a hole in it.

  • @Cuchifrito Pedal steel guitar...originated in Hawaii in the 1800s...

  • @Cuchifrito Pedal Steel. :)

  • Saw my girlfriend boogie on stage with these guys at the 9:30 club in 2001,.....that's when I knew she was going to be my wife (and she is!)

  • That just kills.

  • WOW

  • WOW

  • Bad ASSS at the 4:20 mark especially!

  • Turn up the bass!!!!!!

  • dude you can hear the words come out of that fukin harp! thats real merther right there! smoke uuuuuuuuupppp!

  • Why is he wearing a Phillies uniform?! He's a Mets fan!

  • maybe he aint a die hard fan and he was like "hmm i like the look of that jersey"

  • this cat is FUCKING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • SheaBearden.

I've been raving about them for years now, but the "corporate head honcho's" wouldn't know talent if it hit them like a Mack Truck!

I have e-mailed Ellen Degeneres several times to have her get RR & The Family Band to appear on her show to no avail.

Her show always opens with a dance tune and she has had some very good artists on her show already.

To watch Robert perform is simply infectious. He has such a positive personality. I'll keep trying...

  • yeah i love his positivity....and singin of love and....it really don't matter what kinda of person you are.....we can all groove together!....i love it!

    ...."ain't nothin wrroooong with that"

  • amen god blessed him this way

  • @SheaBearden I just stop by to say hello because we share the same name Randolph. I am also a musician, keep doing great work my brother. David Randolph

  • @SheaBearden

Damn straight! A friend introduced me to RR&TFB a few years back after heard them on one of the late-night TV shows. I picked up the album and never looked back. Listen to how awesome these guys. It's a shame that real music like this never gets the attention it deserves in the mainstream - requires too much IQ to enjoy it.

  • Love me some RR. Come on back to Fayetteville, Ar bro.

  • i have enough trouble with 6 strings, let alone adding another 7 and a bunch of pedals and levers. the man must be part spider

  • @TheBrowndawg what are you talking about haha the bass player has 6 strings :)

  • I saw them in a small club a few years ago and when I heard that bass line start up I was shocked but impressed. They had played Led Zep's No Quarter earlier in their set and that floored everyone. They are a great band.

  • love robert randolpth amazing group this ones really cool though its sounds as if booker t and the mgs wrote the song

  • what a bullshit crowd id be up there moviing my ass

  • what tuning does he using?

  • I don't know for sure but I think it's some kind of universal tuning (some notes from E9 or E7, some from C6) since he's got 13 strings.

  • Actually if you check out Bob Lee's site ("The Pedal Steel Pages"), under Copedents / Unusual / Sacred Steel, the second to last diagram is Randolph's or close to it. The K and P columns mark what the knee levers and foot pedals do (in case you didn't already know).

  • what a piece of crap crowd. i've seen them play a few times and it's amazing! they genuinely love what they do. it's refreshing to watch a band with such enthusiasm. take 'em to church, robert!

  • this crowd is the suck.

  • i think he likes mj as a great artist.

  • RR is one of the sickest bands ever! They make it look effortless!

  • that organ player is kick ass

  • I can't stand how foreign countries keep titling it as "Billy Jean"!! IT'S ON THE ALBUM AS "BILLIE JEAN"!!! What is their problem!?!?!? That's Micheal's most famous song geese get it right!!

  • Whose most famous song? Micheal's? Haha

  • Geese? Those are birds. Geez...... get it right!

  • omg thats sooo freakin cool!

  • [=..

    love it.

  • holy funk!

  • who's on keys in this? thanks

  • Jason Crosby

  • that is such a tight groove

  • Awesome band

  • Just wonder if Michael ever heard this. woulda been so awesome if they could have performed together.

  • OUTSTANDING!!!

  • Robert Randolph is the only artist I have ever heard that produced versions of Michael Jackson's music that really respected the music while adding his own style!

  • God I love them. I've seen them 10+ times and I still catch them when I can.

  • wow

  • well the crowed certainly looks entertained...LOL....

  • wicked solo on the keys..!

  • that is great!

  • the crowd needs to get crunk

  • The MOST amazing rendition of this song that I've ever heard...and I've heard A LOT!

  • Think they sound good? You ought to hear and see these guys in person! They are easily one of the most underated bands of all time.....

  • @bigredbosshog I couldn't agree more! I just started getting into these guys 3-4 years ago, one of the greatest acts going to day IMHO.

  • love the crisp clarity of the snare.

  • anyone know when marcus stopped playing with the band or if he stopped?

  • Saw them last night and he was playing.

  • I heard them live as a cover band and they were friggin awesome, they also did a song with O.A.R. called Fool in the Rain and it is amazing

  • jesus fucking fuck family band is awesome

  • Not many bands sound awesome 'live'

RR&TFB are but one of a handful who can do it.

    That is SKILL!

  • dude then your are listening to the wrong bands.

  • SO GOOD!!!!

  • These guy's are great I love them

  • I have never seen a band sound better live. i was stone sober and they kept me moving for 3 solid hours.

  • the only funk band with a PEDAL STEEL

  • big kudos to Robert Randolph, the band and especially the organist.

  • Now THIS is how you break off an MJ cover!!! What's even cooler is that I heard another version where the band speeds it up to the point where it sounds like the classic tune we all know and love. Not sure if it's still floatin' around on here though...

  • best michael jackson cover, their sick!!

  • awsome

  • yeah where is Marcus?

  • I can't even talk now because the sound of my own voice is terrible compared to the greatness I just witnessed....greatest cover I have ever heard.

  • definitively my favourite band.. (where is marcus?)

  • last time i saw them, marcus absent because of a kidney problem i think.

I hope all is well now, because no one can compare to the sound of RR, danyell, marcus, and when shmeeans is there.

  • great band altogether but the organ player was sick

  • What happened to Marcus?

  • great cover

  • Bass sounds SOOOOOOOO good in this recording.

  • DUDE on the drum was mad focus

  • these tv recordings just sound sooo good, all instruments are audible, no handheld mic shit.

  • sure, german television ....

  • fucking awesome. is it a rarity for him to play this live?

  • noooo he plays this a lot

  • he doesnt change it up that much show to show actually.... still awsome, but more tour to tour. more like a normal band than a jam band

  • These guys are AWESOME live, but man, Robert plays LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • saw these guys live....the bass player is fuckin sick

  • its roberts cousin

  • his name is Dan"Yell"

  • His MJ covers totally wreck anything Fall out Boy could ever produce

  • Their MJ cover is a disgrace

  • i disagree, how you you disgrace rythmn and blues with more blues

  • We're talking about the Fall Out Boy version of Beat It, look it up.

  • @Rambo29 Thats because Fall out Boy was bad to begin with lol

  • I love it.

  • Niiiiiiiice!

  • 11 days till i see them again (opening for clapton)!!!!! i cant wait!

  • lucky son of a bitch..

  • hahahaha ditto.

  • RR on the STEEL!!!

    Does it get any better?

  • no it doesnt.

  • Wow. This version rocks.

  • this is amazing best band ever!

  • that is an absolutely wicked version, this kind of music should be played on the radio more instead of the crap we hear nowdays

  • europeon

  • I have a recording of this but they play it at a faster tempo. Too slow here but still sounds great.

  • Nice.
