@tina6581 In my travels with the gas co I ran into an Irish guy who told me he was in the RAF. He was having a smoke while attacking a German bomber who was also shooting at him. He smelled petrol and put his fag out on the floor of the Spitfire. But that set it on fire. He bailed out over the channel. Another Irish guy I worked with told me his father was in the IRA and they were refueling U boats in Ireland.

FS have best kill ration in battle of Britain and beste pilot from this battle come from there,but he wasn´t from Poland :) Josef František borned near Olomouc in Czech republic (cca 13 km from me). But he has problems with discipline and he rather fight under polish wings,because if he has been in czech squadron, he spend all the time in prison :)

Poles were fighting in many outborder armies and using various machines.Moreover Polish planes were not only those produced in Poland.Poland was using foreign planes bought to its army as well.

@BowBeforeTheTruth Sir my I point out that the RAF had two Polish squadrons not one. Also the debate over the clamed kills by these two squadrons has gone on for to long. The facts are that all pilots made incorrect clams of kills or observed kills and that was on both sides. The battle of Briton supposedly clamed more planes they everyone had. That said it is also a fact that the Poles shot down way more planes per hour in the air than any other RAF squadrons and with the same kites.

@Luk81asz Hi I was commenting on all polish squadrons fighting in the Battle of Briton. I was under the impression the all the other ones had some none polish pilots in them and the bombers don’t count. That’s not intended as a slight in anyway. But we generally only list fighter squadrons as having been involved on the RAF side. I was trying to avoid walking into the what about use argument and instead have done the reverse.

@Luk81asz The British armed forces do not care about nationality. Only what strength you came from. If you transfer in from the Polish army. That is what you get classed as, Polish. The Polish, Free French, Dutch ect part of formations names is political in origin not military. The British armed forces have always been a mixed bag. But in peacetime most none UK nationals that come in come in from civilian life and so are classed as normal as there are no rights or privileges to protect.

The other was when Germany started agitating in other countries. Trying to get German speakers to disrupted their governments. Witch was a breech of the terms of the surrender in 1918. You can add to that number all soldiers/helpers of Polish Home Army that was executed by NKVD or died on syberia. Then go check how many citiziens do we have then. Do the math. I couldnt find any information on why they were flying spits at the end of the video if you claim they only flew blenheims and hurricanes. and anyone know why theres a mig in the middle of the video?

@pmharl The british wing commander was flying a spit in the battle. the Polish 303 squadron after the battle got the newest planes the Brittish had (spits all newest versions that apierd that time. At the end of the war they were flying mustungs. The 303 was operational to the end of the II ww.

Those planes you seemed to see as Westland Whirlwings were polish planes"PZL P-37 Los" innovated and constructed by Poland till 1939

I suppose you 've seen those planes as Whirlwings because they are quite similar.

at 1.22 you definitely see Westland Whirlwind: different engine nacelles, inline engine, different tailplane, much slimmer nose and overall size! But that apart, a good video (maybe a bit too heroic^^)

You are right in 1:28 there is certainly Mig I 've seem to missed that one with PZL P-50 Jastrzab!!! I've made this vid in a real hurry

The Poles must have been very advanced, using Westland Whirlwinds and MiG-15's (Lim-2) in 1939! Surely the MiG's alone would have defeated anything the Luftwaffe had at the time? That little mistake aside, this was a brilliant video, and Polish pilots ended up some of the best in WWII, fighting withing both the RAF and the USAAF. :)
