  • if you wrap this wire round a small tube of copper pipe will it heat it up ?

  • I am wondering how the wire turned green in your video. I noticed a wire inside the toaster glowed green after pressing the handle down several times. Do you know what would cause this? I presume the wire was made of nichrome. A response would be much appreciated. TY

  • what's the name for the background music?

  • @tutukevin Firestarter - Prodigy.

  • you, my dude, are a natural Steven Spielberg ;) a very enjoyable video hehe

  • nice!!

so you wrapped 8 wires of nichrome wire around each other?? and how much amps does your 8,4 volt battery deliver to get at this heating point??

oh and can you heat it over and over again without breaking or damaging it?

    thanks in advantage!

    greets Cmurdock130

  • @Cmurdock130 I don't know the exact amperage, however the battery is able to provide 4.6amps, and it was getting hot so it might have been pulling even more.

You can heat it again and again, however wrapping it up like I did is a very bad idea because it causes the wire to crack when heated. The best thing to do is get some much thicker wire (22 or 24ga) and to *not* wrap it. That way will greatly increase its reusability.

    Hope this helps!

  • @Coodude26 hee

    thanks for reaction!

    oke thats alot of amps.

i thought about wiring 9 volt batteries to it.

    thats now of my mind.

i think if you put thicker wire to it, you're gonna need much more amps

    than you already have.

so ill wait for a response

    greets Cmurdock130

  • @Cmurdock130 you are correct. More thickness requires more heat.

  • Bummer about the audio. I was hoping to hear it with the video.

  • @lthrhog hehe, it doesn't make any sound. so you're not missing out on much

  • as paris hilton would say...

  • @Coodude26 What was your thermal output? How long can the wiring last for until the kinetic energy fractures the wiring?

  • @0000furry #1 I have no idea in the slightest #2 there is no kinetic energy because it's not moving

  • @Coodude26 1) That is fine. i found out days later. It is 1200 degrees centigrade.20) I am referring to the kinetic charge of the individual atoms. Pretty soon, they will move out and begin to degrade the wire.

  • I'm hot!!!

  • cool video. But its pathetic that somebody had to bitch about the song...copyright laws need to be abolished...i found the song elsewhere and its not even that good...

  • dude, I am working on a detonator (timer and cellphone detonators) and I am wondering if this will lit a lace with sparklers powder on it.

    thanks

  • @TheMarksmenCat Definitely, these wires get incredibly hot. You could cut right through plastic with this stuff.

  • @TheMarksmenCat you would be better off with an electric arc. Which you can do with a 9v battery and two pieces of wire.

  • nice video what is the voltage of the battery ur using?

  • 7.2v or 8.4v I can't remember but they'll both work.

  • @Coodude26

    how thick is your wire

  • @mikelikefatcat 32ga and this was 8 strands twisted together

  • where do you get the Nichrome wire at

  • ebay, mostly

  • @animefreek1000 you can get them out of toasters.

  • What a cool video. I need to make a small heater from a DC and this helped a lot. I wonder how many times it would heat up from a battery as it is consuming power quite fast.

  • Wow, this is awesome.

I'm going to get some of this to remotely detonate fireworks.

I might want to get a tad smaller guage though, so it would heat instantly

  • smash a old hair dryer up and cut the element into small pieces apply power works great for remote firework detonating

  • wow awseome the last part reminded me of a sparkkler lol

also u must be really smart to make all this stuff

  • thanks. But actually this isnt that complicated, you hook up a wrapped-up piece of fancy Nichrome wire to an airsoft battery and this is what it does. try it sometime.

  • nice man

  • I am planning to buy this after trying Guitar Strings for foam Hot Wire cutting, I am using a 12v 4.5A AC transformer. Guitar String worked, but it is slow, I am hoping this wire would get hotter and cut faster, any suggestions. Under the spring tension will it break easier than guitar string or burn out?

  • Im not sure, nichrome isnt made for stress, but you're going to want to get some pretty thich nichrome for regular foam cuting so it doesn't break.

  • Very Nice. What is the power source?

  • It's powered by an 8.4v airsoft gun battery.

  • He says "you can watch the heat spread" The reason it starts at one end is because he has a poor connection at that end. The wire should heat evenly except for heat loses caused by conduction

    at the connection points.

    Mike

  • No, it has to do with the electrons traveling that way. Loss of conduction would NOT allow it to heat up normally at one end and poorly at the other, it would as a whole heat up slower.

  • Unitednuclear. com meant

  • You can get it from ebay or unitednulear. com i think

    cool vid

  • Very cool 5/5 thanx I've been looking for a vid like this whered did y get it???
