When you changed the tempo of the song it was genius! Took it to another level from the original. Again more fabulous "note bending" (I don't know the technical term but I think it's a good description) AND right in the beginning the first word "Ohhh" awesome bending to set the tone for this perf "but it's all so eaaasy" more bending. Your "siggie". FANTASTIC!!!
Hear Simon say " I've expected that". Paula getting emotional............. They knew he was unstoppable and so did the other contestants. Season Five was the best!
@alienhuman Well, he was on Jimmy Fallon the other night. Before that he did a concert in Texas. Then he was writing in Nashville.............soon starting a tour. We know where to find him at all times.
Season Five. One of the top ten most watched shows on television..... of the decade.... especially the finale. Highest attendance and gross of all eight seasons of the Idol tours. !
Written by "Irving King" (James Campbell and Reginald Connelly) and Harry M. Woods.
First recorded in 1932 by the Ray Noble Orchestra / Val Rosing.
Many others have provided us with their take on this timeless song. Ruth Etting, Bing Crosby, Little Miss Cornshucks, Jimmy Durante, Frank Sinatra, Mel Tormé, Rod Stewart, Frankie Laine, Percy Sledge, Earl Grant, Al Jarreau, Nina Simone, Etta James, Tina Turner, Three Dog Night, and Andrew Strong.
Taylor is the best Idol ever. He got the voice and very entertaining on stage. Unfortunately he doesnt appeal to the kids who dont understand what good music is all about. Kris is good looking, talented and has nice voice. Adam is a performer with good voice. But Taylor is way way better than both of them.
Season 9 starts next january........this past season was season 8 but i would expect anyone who uses the word faggot to be an idiot anyway thanks for proving that for me
Taylor was absolutely the best. He has his own record label. He is touring in Grease and his album just came out. I am so happy for all of his success.
He impressed the hell out of me when he danced up to the judges playing his mouth organ for the final 12 elimination. I don't even watch Idol but I liked this cat.
Great energy here and what a cool performance from this guy. Just wish I had the time to watch this season. Not much of a reality show watcher, but this guy seems pretty unique. I'm not surprised that he hasn't made it big though, as he doesn't seem to be a cookie cutter performer that seems to sell these days. Good luck to you anyway dude!
What I really loved about this performance even more so the ending of it. What I really loved about it was the fact that it actually looked like his SOUL was going to bust out and start dancing. It was just great and this is the Taylor Hicks everybody loves so much.
To me, I think this was Taylor Hicks' BEST performance on American Idol! It was a well-suited song for him (Soul jam) and his ability to project raw passion and excitement into his singing performances was never better demonstrated than right here! Like how the ballad feel at the beginning (soft and crooning) quickly transformed into an edgy (complete with gritty soaring vocals!) and forceful masterpiece by the end. He combined good elements between his own style in a strong way. Never gets old!
I felt he really added a dynamic edge that is lost in Otis Redding's version to an audience of this generation. Not just that, but his stage presence takes one away from the feel of American Idol and right into a real concert; like one you'd see at a big event. He moves expertly while singing without deteriorating the quality of his voice, and he opens up at the most perfect part of the song like Otis Redding did, which is something Michael Bublé didn't do for his respective style.
I agree with that assessment and valuable insight. Thanks for your response. Indeed Taylor's energy and passion gave this old song new life and relevance for the modern generation ... capturing the aching yearning qualities that Otis originally composed. It's true that his passionate delivery made it less TV entertainment and more individual value of solo artistry. His voice soars and sends off raw perfection in the sense that he was emotionally connected to it ... and so are we as a result. A+!
The other greatest thing, second only to his voice, was his expert arrangement skills. The song, as Taylor Hicks performed it, was very melodical, and he times his own performer styled dancing to the music and camera, especially at the end with the jump. I absolutely love songs where we can all connect to the music without feeling sadness of some kind. Though, "You are so Beautiful" was a performance, in my opinion, that was an emotional equivalent to "Summertime" performed by Fantasia.
I agree with ALL your points. Very sharp assessment. Taylor totally brought his own musical perspective ... which is very keen and special and TALENTED to begin with ... to the forefront on stage with this performance. He totally connected with it, and it was therefore a real treat to watch. So much energy and passion with his singing style. Great voice, of course! Yes, "Summertime" was nice & I can see the poignant correlation with that between "You Are So Beautiful." Thanks again. Best wishes!
Lol. Actually if you watch Otis Redding (the original singer, legend) he had those same type of moves, the whole foot stomp and everything. The audiences love it. Go check it out. But I will give you props from addressing Nadia Turner's version cause is was hot! I enjoyed both versions.
Very nice cover! Taylor did a very nice job with this. He didn't over do it but he still gave his best with it. I still prefer the Otis Reding version better, and the Michael Buble, but this was very very well done!
You know what all of you (but dwdrochester and lamae) can shut up and go die! He's fun and cool and not a spaz! If you dont like him than don't watch him!!! Oh and by the way he won so guess what that means? That's right.... people love him! ha ha!!!!!! Go eat ur nasty little remarks about him!
you know, what's happening to taylor is just what I thought would happen to him. Great performer but you cant see his performance through the CD and that is why he is not selling any CD's. And I do agree that he is a spazz!
