The design is using one of the pistons as a kind of turbo. It will increase fuel combustion efficiency but you loose as much by using the generated power to run the compression piston. I can't see how you can disengage the compression cylinder/piston it will always be running and if you block in the intake you will create a vapour lock or you would have to have a relief valve on at all times. The compression cylinder needs to be much smaller.
