Yes, they are from Oklahoma City. The same year that Jr. won the Mundials as a super heavyweight black belt (moving up 2 weight classes!) another student at Lovato's, Justin Rader, won Mundials as a purple belt. It is an awesome school. My 12-year-old son has been going there since March.

My best friend and I used to drive to Carlos Machado's in Dallas to study. Little Rafael and his father were almost always there. I think they were driving in from OK somewhere. I miss those long weeks of PAIN and SWEET SWEAT!!! OOOOORRRRRRAAAAAAA!!!!

I'm talking about the years 1994 to 1998, and he was about 14 or 15 years old or maby younger. Like him I also trained in more than one place during the same time frame. This way you won't roll with the same 8 to 12 people, you get a more diverse training schedule and don't just learn what someones weaknesses are and vise versa.

Yeah, that's his new coach. Lovato told me Saulo moved to to San Diego where he has a camp. Lovato cross-trains judo sometimes at the dojo I train at. Saulo actually came here to Oklahoma City for a seminar.

Rafael comes out to this mix, or atleast he did at one time. Mix was made by Ira of Trackoholiks. They have a webpage, I think this song is on there. They sell beats too. to win the Brazilian National Championship he got on a plane, in Oklahoma, and flew to Brazil to compete. Rafael Lovato Jr. was born and raised in the US, as were his parents. His dad was also born and raised in the US. Many American's have European surnames and he has a Spanish name (from Spain before we get into a discussion about if he is Mexican or not?).
