one of the best players in the world too bad he plays for usa if he lived here hed be an all black left it too late for super rugby aswell but if usa can get some money behind them watch out
WOW MAN when i watched USA vs AUS in the world cup2011 the USA actually can beat the AUS. The USA are hard tacklers . Man what a game. It is very spectacular. But the USA lose the game. I saw they gasping for air and barely able to breathe, Maybe the USA need to improvise their stamina technique. Sorry 4 bad english.
@PashaZafar The USA have the ability to be a champion rugby team, but are let down by a lack of popularity in the sport. But rugby union is growing in popularity the world over. The next 20 years will be amazing for rugby!
The day the USA wakes up and more people take notice of rugby there is the day the rest of the rugby world better watch out. Its only a matter of time.
@vicfallsboy mate i'll show you some numbers (USA)Number Of Registered Players:88151 (AUS)Number Of Registered Players:86952 (USA) Pre-teen Male Players:2580 Pre-teen Female Player:253 Teen Male Player:28886 Teen Female Player:8929 Senior Male Player:35794 Senior Female Player:11709 (AUS) Pre-teen Male Players:26664 Pre-teen Female Player:0 Teen Male Player:19239 Teen Female Player:0 Senior Male Player:39380 Senior Female Player:1669 They have more PSN accounts than the whole Aus polulation
@vicfallsboy Keep in mind they also have collegiate sevens, produce good athletes and they start to look like they have a good looking sevens team, yet they draw with brazil lol when did brazil play rugby xD(2011 Pan-American Games)
@vicfallsboy so i wonder why they changed the rules around to their favour and created a game we call today "American Football".. lol think about it why would you purposely throw a forward pass? because he couldnt get passed the defense xD
nah im just flaming the american team, they'll get better in a few more decades :) if you actually did read all this well thank you for your time hahaha.
@vicfallsboy In my opinion no, totally different game... thats all it is, you can't have an Aussie rules player hop on a soccer field and expect them to dominate because the aussie rules player can kill a ball and run around for long periods. Just like NFL to Rugby, just because you see NFL players run and tackle... keep in mind the tacklers are the defensive team and the runners are offensive teams where majority of their gaps are created by blockers. NFL players would best suit convertn to NRL
@helloimjackieee me too! I went to a friends house there was like 30 of us there and we were all on the edge of our seats! We played like shit! I think we DID deserve to win the RWC cause we haven't lost a pool game or anything but we were sooo lucky :L one point!! Who is your fave All Black??
To create a professional league in the US, will be in the near future a great opportunity for americans to shine with a global sport in the green rectangle.
Usa, should support their Rugby League team. There can be 40 minutes of play without one stopage, fast full paced. Unlike that drop the ball Stop, kick the ball then Stop. Fall over and everybody stops. Change the whole team for defence/attack lol. League makes Union look like Nfl. theres so many stoppages in each.
@Joaogamez2 I think top 10 is a realistic goal. Quarters is lofty, but I'd lose my shit if we made it that far. Sevens is getting big in the US. The yearly CRC tournament, inclusion in the Olympics, more and more football coaches are seeing the benefits of rugby in the off-season to stay fit, former NFL players are crossing over to play, all the signs are there. I love 15s to death, but if 7s is what's going to be big, then I can support that too.
I play union for a large university in the States, and I'm abroad right now in NZ. Lots of my fellow American students who have never seen rugby before coming down here have absolutely fallen in love with it. Get your friends out to a game, to play some touch, or just to watch a match on TV or online. It's impossible not to love this sport.
Im 18 and play rugby in high school and hope to play in college. Although it may not be me, I hope some kids in my generation will step up and make the Eagles great
@1gazary Absolutely !! I love NFL but I also adore rugby. And if just 1/4 of NFL players and high schools played rugby the likely hood is that USA would be up there with the all blacks and Australia.. Think if someone like Manning grew up playing rugby he would probably be the best scrum half in the world..
@jjjjeklellele cleats? in rugby the forward wear rugby boots that are designed for scrummaging with large studs. the backs would have smaller studs to run faster or similar to football boots with blades for sharp turns and sprints
Todd Clever is a beast, one of the best props I have seen coming up from the lower teams. I wouldn't be surprised if he was recruited by France or Japan Rugby Union in the next 5 or 8 years.
@hazza3 He only plays as a prop for the 7's. He's a flanker for the Rugby Union team. And be recruited by France or Japan in the next 5 or 8 years? He's 28 years old, nobody is gonna recruit a 36 year old man.
@AdamWest4life I thought he played prop in one of the pool matches. Still, he is pretty damn mean for a forward. When I mean recruited, I mean as a Coach much like they did with Tana Umaga and Jerry Collins.
@hazza3 Ah now I see what you mean. I thought you meant recruited as a player. My mistake! :). And yes, he's a mean forward. Excellent player in my opinion. I'm Irish and I can honestly say he gave the best individual performance against us so far in this World Cup.
@AdamWest4life All good! My fault for not being more....defined? He's def the man and the USA team this year really surprised me. Id like to see him coaching a Japanese team or even advertising in the US and make the game popular.
@1gazary I jumped off the NFL Band wagon 8 years ago when I first watched the RWC 2003. I was amazed at the athletes skill level, no special rules limiting hitting on certain players. The game was constantly moving with no stupid TV time outs. I've been a fan since then, and keep telling my NFL friends to watch rugby. Its a real mans game.
The respect the players show, and their reluctance to 'claim' or brag or chest thump, is refreshing. By contrast, it's embarrassing to see our NFL players point to themselves after a touchdown. Cheers to all ya rugby nations and fans, and may the great game proliferate and stay respectful and intense. ... a winning combination. And may the USA rise to both standards someday soon.
We tackle different, and we've got some very deep benches and physicality in the gene pool that is being siphoned into NFL football and NBA basketball, and some hockey. When that gets directed at rugby, watch out for a few dozen Jonah Lamus popping up all over. One of my favorite parts of rugby culture is what I've noticed as a legacy of gentlemanliness and mateship.
The pads are needed the way we play it. But sure, it DOES look like our mommies dressed us up so we won't get hurt, eh?" I also think that if the USA gets interested in rugby (not one of my friends or family watches or understands the game) you will see some interesting things.
It's like playing Smear the Q...R (a bad word, but a great pick-up game on the playground, and brutal), and it's all end-runs (one of the funnest parts of football), and it's FULL-ON tackle, without pads." But I've also told my Kiwi and Aussie friends, "American football is tougher than you'd think.
We became All Black fans that night. Most of us American kids stopped playing full-contact, unpadded football around, or soon after, high school age. Just too many injuries the way we're used to playing, leading with the head, etc. I've been trying to make converts here back at home, telling my American friends "Wait 'til you see rugby.
I've played Am. football, born and raised, all my life. But I was so impressed upon watching my first rugby game, literally on the first night we arrived in Aukland, that I'm a converted fan. I yelled to my wife, "Honey! You gotta see this. Grown men playing full-contact football without pads."
Todd Clever is the real deal. I was put him in the top 5 flankers in the world. This guy puts it on the line for his country in the toughest position, in the toughest game
google for worldrugbyshop. It's one of the biggest rugby shops worldwide and located in the US. They have this jersey named "USA Rugby Pro 11/12 Third SS Rugby Jersey"
Far oi!!!That was a pre mean promo!!!Got me all hyped up!AllBlacks, tautokotia XD Todd Clever is lke th newest international rugby name i know nw :) YAY!He came to Wanganui :)))
South Africa, cannot beat the All Blacks, AUS, Eng or France, not with that team that PDV insists on running out there and relying solely on experience and Morne Steyn's kicking boot. They won't be able to hide him on defense in the knockout rounds.
I don't really think that much of the USA team but I really have to hand it to this guy. After we played them and won Clever had such a big smile on his face and genuinely congratulated and shook hands with all the Irish players. I have the upmost respect for this man.
TOdd clever Is a superstar... an incredibly talented and under-rated rugby player.. it is amazing todd clever was produced by a country where rugby is hardly even looked at? does anyone know this guys background?
@doogiedog1234 went to Bellarmine HS in San Jose, CA. Recruited to play football as a linebacker for a number of schools, but chose to play rugby at the University of Nevada, Reno.
@doogiedog1234 he's not that good... well for a american player but for some reason he has a canadian accent which is strange either way he dosen't compare to any forward (any) that play internationally in any of the top 12 rugby teams in the world but even saying that i do love how he goes hard good to watch him but i wouldn't call him incredibly talented.. when they vsed ireland he got planted on his arse by just about every player in there scrum pack but he did drop the winger haha
@doogiedog1234 ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? YOU´RE NOT TALENTED FOR THIS SPORT, LONG HAIR, MUSCLES EVERYWHERE, KEEP DOING IT AT WWE... I KNOW JWHAT I´M SAYING, I´M ARGENTINIAN.
@watefoook Im glad you know what your saying because i struggled a little bit....what do u meen im not talented for this sport? are u trying to say u dont like the look of Todd clever?
Nawwh don't mock his hair. I also watched the game and i thought the US did an ok job, considering rugby isn't their sport. I'll give them brownie points for their defence and they did keep the ball alive in Irelands quarter of the field longer than expected and even got a last minute try. Soo good job USA and good luck against Russia!!
As much as i like supporting all the teams, my heart will always be cheering for the All Blacks. Go NZ!!!
was at the Ireland vs. USA game last night... and I gotta say this guy is the best in the team by a mile, He slipped a few important tackles but payed up for it by doing some seriously thumping tackles on the Irish.
I laughed my head off when the guy behind me shouted out "GET A HAIR CUT!!!!" to Todd when he tipped one of the Irish players on his head :P
Holding their game on Sept 11 could be like a red-rag to a bull to some Nut-job or munter out there. So I really hope security is on the ball. If security is NOT...then people going to that game need to keep their own eyes open. Photograph suspicious looking types... look at who is arriving late at the game...who is arriving early... who is that group of 5 foreign looking Arts students wearing dancing shoes... those kinda questions. Don't rely on THE security for YOUR security. Go Team USA !!
@LDwestwood1986 In over a century of test playing rugby, they have a win rate of over 75%, no other nation even comes close. If you're saying that the RWC is the ONLY yardstick by which they can be judged, then it almost makes the of playing any other test rugby pointless. No team is truly invincible, but the AB's are by far the closest thing in international rugby to it.
@Jude2Mahoney they are the best in consistency but the world cup is the most important competition for a reason, australia i would say with my biasm are the best at world cups and are only only 1 of 3 teams that can beat them, the other 2 are SA and france
@nflizsoft6 Aus are no doubt a cracking tournament team, but again, it comes down to how much emphasis you put on RWC's. I think it's great and love watching it, but what happens when you're "world champions" and then suck for the next four years as England did a few years back? Almost makes a mockery of being "world champions". Tournaments like this prove who is the best in that tournament in a knock out environment and no team is truly completely unbeatable.
@Jude2Mahoney well if you suck the next 4 years it just proves that you only show up for the big occasions, and lets face it england were beyond lucky to win in 03 not they didnt deserve it, australia and south africa though continue to compete and beat the ABs and win tri nations and stuff anyways(albeit NZ win most of the time and have loads of depth) you watch argentina they will be a prominent top 5 team in a few years since its the quad nations next year with AUS,NZ and SA and the pumas
@nflizsoft6 Actually, I'm an AB's fan, (we don't have the best record at the RWC) so we have a pretty consistent win rate, although don't win everything. I'd dispute that England didn't deserve it, on the day they proved they were the better team. Yes, they didn't score many try's, but they did what it took to win. Can't wait to see Argentina in the 3N, will add a new level of competition although they'll likely be whipping boys for a bit. Eventually they'll improve, which is good for the game.
@TheJohnathonHarvel Uruguay. Although I am from Argentina, close but very different. Proud to be the third world, it seems to me an insult, or feel less than those who are believed to be the first world.
@imnotajewishlesbian I do not think out champion of Rugby, but it is certainly merit a whole just because of being in the world. Historic moment for EEUU
@thisismrBAKER Considering he likes to pass the ball away every time he is about to be tackled, you're probably right. He is nothing but an overrated cheap shot artist who would be nothing without Genia; i'm sure Welsh fans will agree if their team end up playing them in the Quarterfinals.

South Africa, cannot beat the All Blacks, AUS, Eng or France, not with that team that PDV insists on running out there and relying solely on experience and Morne Steyn's kicking boot. They won't be able to hide him on defense in the knockout rounds.

I wonder how many Americans are watching the World Cup. They must some following. Atleast Half a Million or more.
hazza3 5 months ago
I don't really think that much of the USA team but I really have to hand it to this guy. After we played them and won Clever had such a big smile on his face and genuinely congratulated and shook hands with all the Irish players. I have the upmost respect for this man.

TOdd clever Is a superstar... an incredibly talented and under-rated rugby player.. it is amazing todd clever was produced by a country where rugby is hardly even looked at? does anyone know this guys background?
doogiedog1234 5 months ago 19
@doogiedog1234 went to Bellarmine HS in San Jose, CA. Recruited to play football as a linebacker for a number of schools, but chose to play rugby at the University of Nevada, Reno.
patrixfunny 5 months ago 7
@doogiedog1234 he's not that good... well for a american player but for some reason he has a canadian accent which is strange either way he dosen't compare to any forward (any) that play internationally in any of the top 12 rugby teams in the world but even saying that i do love how he goes hard good to watch him but i wouldn't call him incredibly talented.. when they vsed ireland he got planted on his arse by just about every player in there scrum pack but he did drop the winger haha

@doogiedog1234 he played for lions in South Africa

@doogiedog1234 ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? YOU´RE NOT TALENTED FOR THIS SPORT, LONG HAIR, MUSCLES EVERYWHERE, KEEP DOING IT AT WWE... I KNOW JWHAT I´M SAYING, I´M ARGENTINIAN.
watefoook 5 months ago
@watefoook Im glad you know what your saying because i struggled a little bit....what do u meen im not talented for this sport? are u trying to say u dont like the look of Todd clever?
doogiedog1234 5 months ago
Nawwh don't mock his hair. I also watched the game and i thought the US did an ok job, considering rugby isn't their sport. I'll give them brownie points for their defence and they did keep the ball alive in Irelands quarter of the field longer than expected and even got a last minute try. Soo good job USA and good luck against Russia!!
As much as i like supporting all the teams, my heart will always be cheering for the All Blacks. Go NZ!!!
LasSicc 5 months ago
was at the Ireland vs.
ZarakyeRunescapeShow 5 months ago
Todd Clever was unreal today. Best forward on the pitch by a mile. Did himself proud unlike our lot!
Also does anyone know why USA aren't wearing this jersey? It is bad-ass! Especially by comparison to the boring ould blue&red one.

@Toddacus invincible... since the WC win in 1987 they have proven not to be that invincible, they are great but there name excelles them
LDwestwood1986 5 months ago
@LDwestwood1986 Not really, it's just the WC that NZ can't seem to get down (There's only been 6). Other than that NZ has the highest % I believe.
aprioriReification 5 months ago
@LDwestwood1986 In over a century of test playing rugby, they have a win rate of over 75%, no other nation even comes close. If you're saying that the RWC is the ONLY yardstick by which they can be judged, then it almost makes the of playing any other test rugby pointless. No team is truly invincible, but the AB's are by far the closest thing in international rugby to it.
Jude2Mahoney 5 months ago
@Jude2Mahoney they are the best in consistency but the world cup is the most important competition for a reason, australia i would say with my biasm are the best at world cups and are only only 1 of 3 teams that can beat them, the other 2 are SA and france
nflizsoft6 5 months ago
@nflizsoft6 Aus are no doubt a cracking tournament team, but again, it comes down to how much emphasis you put on RWC's. I think it's great and love watching it, but what happens when you're "world champions" and then suck for the next four years as England did a few years back? Almost makes a mockery of being "world champions". Tournaments like this prove who is the best in that tournament in a knock out environment and no team is truly completely unbeatable.
Jude2Mahoney 5 months ago
@Jude2Mahoney well if you suck the next 4 years it just proves that you only show up for the big occasions, and lets face it england were beyond lucky to win in 03 not they didnt deserve it, australia and south africa though continue to compete and beat the ABs and win tri nations and stuff anyways(albeit NZ win most of the time and have loads of depth) you watch argentina they will be a prominent top 5 team in a few years since its the quad nations next year with AUS,NZ and SA and the pumas
nflizsoft6 5 months ago
@nflizsoft6 Actually, I'm an AB's fan, (we don't have the best record at the RWC) so we have a pretty consistent win rate, although don't win everything. I'd dispute that England didn't deserve it, on the day they proved they were the better team. Yes, they didn't score many try's, but they did what it took to win. Can't wait to see Argentina in the 3N, will add a new level of competition although they'll likely be whipping boys for a bit. Eventually they'll improve, which is good for the game.

@KCHIEFTAN
That won't happen sorry man.
I'm welsh and after watching Quade's performance against the All Blacks in there last game that's very unlikely.
thisismrBAKER 6 months ago
@thisismrBAKER Considering he likes to pass the ball away every time he is about to be tackled, you're probably right. He is nothing but an overrated cheap shot artist who would be nothing without Genia; i'm sure Welsh fans will agree if their team end up playing them in the Quarterfinals.
