  • Never realized how bad the english translated lol.

  • 3:41 why does the screen flash right there? loading part 2 of the level, maybe?

  • @jeffthecoder It's changing over the color palette.

  • The Genesis game was really great, but this one, even though it's not as good, felt so ambitious. It tried to be different and tried to do new things. That's what makes it so awesome.

  • The Genesis version KILLS this, not because it has better graphics, but because it is more original and stylish. This just looks like a generic platform game.

  • @burrorojo19 I haven't played much of the Genesis version, but it seems like way more of a vanilla platformer than this game - this one throws in some RPG elements and a story. Of course, that doesn't necessarily make it better.

  • @UsaSatsui Yeah, you're right, this one crosses the divide between platformer and RPG, and I always used to love when games were a mix (ever play some of the wonderboys?), but the arcade /Genesis Strider was so evocative and atmospheric, I loved it.

  • @burrorojo19 The Genesis version is basically a port of the arcade game whereas this version is based on the manga. So storyline-wise the NES version is totally different from the original arcade game and the eventual Sega port. IN fact, in this game Hiryu actually looks more like the modern incarnation of the character than he did in the arcade/sega versions.

  • i miss this game thanx for posting it

  • i just pick this game up last week its in my nes now

  • the genisis kicks more ass than this

  • BWAAhahaha... if cats had a sense of humor and were good game programmers, they'd come up with something like this music and gameplay. Then, they would all stand in formation to do their Caramelldansen jig on stage to this goofy music BWAAhaaha I LVOE this game clip. That loud squiggly sound at 5:10 tickles my nads.

  • How much you wanna bet Matic is a Flock of Seagulls fan? XD

  • @IggyHazard And he ran...he ran so far away...

  • @UsaSatsui That song could actually be used in a Strider video! Especially with the Genesis game.

  • @UsaSatsui is there anyone you can make a playthrough of mach rider?

  • @IBOUGHTYAMOM Sorry, I'm completely unfamiliar with the game.

  • @UsaSatsui i didnt know so... i just thought you played some games to the end you must be pretty good... anyway thanks for the fast reply

  • @IBOUGHTYAMOM ....WHO THE HELL NEEDS A WALK FOR MACH RIDER?!THE GAME HAS NO END!IT'S A DUDE ON A MOTORCYCLE THAT KILLS OTHER DUDES!LOL,YOU MADE MY DAY BRO

  • insert epic stance here @1:20 LOL

  • This music rocks my ass so hard LOL.

  • the genisis version pwns this but strider 2 on genesis kicks more ass :)

  • Did anyone else find this game kind of weird and insanely difficult back in the day?

  • ESTE JUEGO ES LA MERA VERGA

  • I finally beat this game, I'm telling you, it's a bitch to try to perform the triangle jump. Took me forever! ^_^

  • Bloody Hell, I've loved this NES-Game soo much!

    Thanks for this video :)

  • Used to love this game. Got to the point where I could go through it on one game, I played it so much! Out of the video games I played back in the day, this was definitely a favorite!

  • damn this takes me back. i think its like castlevainia and ninja gaiden put together

  • Heavily underrated game. It might not be the Strider people expected after playing the awesome arcade original, but it was a damn good game on its own. Just like the NES Rygar was a great rendition despite having not much in common with the arcade version.

  • Notice how the Kazakh warriors are dressed in military fatigues just like Rad Spencer and Super Joe from Bionic Commando.

  • @IggyHazard Heh, now that you mention it, all they need is a bionic arm, instead of... heck it looks like that's actually some kind of blade arm! O.o

  • @paerarru Is it just me or do Bionic Commando and Strider both have epic soundtracks?

  • @IggyHazard It is NOT just you! :) And you're right, Yugdesiral sounds something like yoggoth.

  • Oh yeah and my personal favorite: Bionic Commando.

  • @paerarru Notice how the Kazakh warriors look kind of a lot like Rad Spencer. XD

  • Classic 8-bit heaven.

  • oh god i went back up there so many times but never saw that coming.

  • This game is so bad and I could never get pass level 1 due to its awefulness. I kept getting lost. I mean after meeting the general i was like, WTF DO I DO!! A kain is up there. Ehm, how i go up. FUCK!! thnks man.

  • 3:21 - Boba Fett... I think

  • wow this game takes me back! i need to get my hands on it again!

  • dis is more different than the arcade version

  • Oh god I dont have words to describe how BAD this game is, the gfx and sound is just mediocre, but the worst part are the sluggish controls

  • love this game and its music but i hate how when you die you have to read the text all over again

  • Matic... the Vice Director of the striders.

He's second in command to the chief...

You'll see the chief at one point too, so I'll not say too much at this point.

  • OMFG I have been trying to remember the name of this game for 15 freking years ty for posting this

  • Something I find very funny about this game is how the name of the spaceship is red dragon yet the color of it is blue.

  • @JuneLinMilliam The name of the spaceship is the Blue Dragon. There's a "Red Dragon" you go to later in the game, the final level, but that one isn't ever shown.

  • really though, can NES music get any better than this? No!

  • @carbonphiber Honestly, I think the game has a pretty mediocre soundtrack. Even staying within Capcom's library, I'd have to say the Mega Man games blow pretty much anything in this game away.

  • @UsaSatsui i always liked the megaman music too. just find that this game's sound was very unique. just has like a fantasy kindof ring to it, i dunno.

  • @UsaSatsui naw man. the egypt train theme is probably the greatest electronic composition ever

  • @holygalaga I'll admit that one is pretty good.

  • @UsaSatsui Yeah, but give the Genesis version a listen. The Genesis version is WORSE.

  • @UsaSatsui No way. I mean you're comparing it against Megaman, which is arguably the best NES music ever. Capcom games indeed had great music. Another good one is DuckTales.

  • @paerarru Compare it to anything you like on the NES. The soundtrack is still pretty average.

Capcom in general did do very good with their music, though.

  • i like how the title screen music starts off

  • I loved the NES version of Strider much more than the Sega Genesis version. This version had more plot, back story, and levels to play.

  • There was a band from NYC who named themselves after this game. They were really good too. Stryder.

  • while the sega version was fun, this was WAY closer to the Manga this series is based on.

    i love this game.

  • Sheena is totally wielding an M41A! awesome

  • This was the BEST NES game ever. Hell, I think it might be one of my most favorite games ever. Especially, storywise.

  • @HeyJaw

Best nes game ever?!? Yeah, right...

  • GAMES BACK THEN WERE SUPER FUN TO PLAY

  • wow kate gosselin was a strider ?2:00

  • I think it's obvious from the intro what striders are supposed to do.

    They shoot down helicopters.

That's why Strider Hiryu is only class C, and the only one left when things go bad. Apparently he still thinks you can shoot down helicopters with a sword.

The way I figure, when he got the message from Mousse Headroom at the base, he was just finishing the bathrooms and getting ready to polish the hallway floors.

  • all i can think of when i see that one blonde guy is

    FLOCK OF SEAGULLS. LOL

  • kazah!

  • the strider @ :35 looks like Narcist Prince from Super punchout. lol

  • this is so awful compared to the mega drive version

  • Thanks for posting the whole game, really brought back some fond memories. One thing I wanted to say. You suggest the plasma shot from the sword is usless but actually it's perfect for 2 things:

    1. Destroying the devices that hover around Zain machines.

    2. Knocking Matic's sword away without using up energy.

For #1 you just gotta stand right in the mid of the screen to avoid being shot. Begin charging. Jump over the device (straight up) if it gets too close before you fully charge.

  • Cool music

  • This game was awesome!

  • Is it just me or was this an underrated game. I liked it alot.

  • Definitely not just u! This game certainly deserved more praise!! I like this game a lot as well!! A classic and I was so pumped about getting my copy off ebay today and in mint condition :)

  • I never could figure this game out. Not even in the least bit. Maybe it was because I was really young. I still think it's really confusing, though.

  • i like this. every other walkthrough i have seen its always a guy who has a dumb voice who acts and trys to be funny but most of the time is just annoying. but you made it simple to watch and enjoy and put all the your commentary on the side and that makes the video more enjoyable thank you

  • Much like Ninja Gaiden & Double Dragon, I like the NES version of Strider better than the arcade. All completely different fromt he original game.

  • Ignore the thumbs down on this comment. I agree, to be honest with you. The only reason people "hate" this game is because Stuttering Craig said he hates this game. I love this game. Even with the Strider tag, I think it's a very innovative game for it's time. A crap load of fun, and in my opinion, a little more fun with the added RPG elements over the arcade-style platforming of Strider in the arcade and on the Genesis.

  • Completely different in a good way. I think I cleared the NES version many more times than the Genny version that the arcade version was on.

  • his walking animation looks so awkward and stupid

  • That's probably about the only flaw with this game, Hiyru could have been made better. Oh, and he handles awkward! But I played this so much that I mastered everything. I've always liked the music and the detail in the background graphics. Capcom seemed the leader back in those days.

  • The fact that the game is so good, despite being so glitchy, says a lot about the game.

  • Why does the NES version seem to be the only port of the arcade game that looks NOTHING like it? It's like they took the Bionic Commando engine and fit the game around it.

  • Because the NES version is not a port of the arcade game.

  • No wai? ZOMG Yuo r kiddin! Way to point out the MORE THAN OBVIOUS. Even the SMS version was a port, why did NES owners get shafted?

  • Because it's very hard to port an arcade game that hasn't been made yet.

That's right, I did some research. The NES version of Strider was actually made first, based on a manga. However, it was never released in Japan, only in the United States. By the time it was released in the US, the arcade game was out, with a radically different plot and game design.

So, again. The NES game is not a port of the arcade game.

  • I guess you are right. The NES version was 1989, the SMS version was 1991. Thank you for the education, and I apologise for the lack of research.

  • I remember seeing Bionic Commando adverts with my game. I believe they were on the back of the box or on a flyer. I wished I would have kept better care of the other material that came with my games, than I'd still have it to be sure. But at least I still have all my games, and I suppose that's all that counts.

  • Powers of instigation?

  • It could be "investigation". But it could also just be awkward grammar. I can see "instigation" on the business cards on a group like this (maybe some people want to start some trouble?)

  • Of course the arcade version is much better, but I like how this follows the Strider Manga and uses those same characters. . .

If this had the playability of the arcade it would've been classic. . .

  • Yes. I use them sometimes (my DuckTales walkthrough does), but people have told me they prefer the commentary on the side...and quite frankly, that's easier for me to do.

  • Capcom mastered 8-bit music.

  • hiryu sure was an annoying little $#!% in marvel vs. capcom 2

  • I haven't played much MvC2, but I do remember hating to play against him in MvC1. I really hated any character that could tap out an 11 hit combo that easily.

  • FUck that brings back memories.

  • dmcc bgcp cpod

i still remember it from 1989! just like the tyson code!

  • The only code from this game that I remember is bjap pean anob... I think it gets you to Egypt. Still, such memories!

  • I think that gets you to Australia? And I know that DMCC BGCP CPOD gets you to the Red Dragon

  • If you want to know where each password gets you, watch the videos. :)

  • I remember that code! I mustve played this when i was 7 or 8.

  • The intro music is awesome.

  • I like Strider's funky walk; I'm gonna start "striding" everywhere with my arms sticking out. It's gonna look wicked bad.

  • I actually got the walk down pat once. It looks nearly impossible for a animated human to replicate because you have to give the illusion of walking on one foot, but I've demonstrated it can be done! LOL

  • i remember this i found it awsome when i was a child

  • Oh & hey 3:44 confused me for the longest time as well. What exactly do you mean by color pallate? I'll bet it has something to do with it not being able to display enough colors right?

  • That's exactly what it means. The NES could only display so many colors at one time. If you wanted to change the colors you were using, but not make it look really sloppy by just suddenly changing everything, you needed to use some sort of trick.

  • Thanks man.

  • Dude this game kicks ass! Still trying to beat it. The music is great!

  • great game, or greatest game???

  • THIS IS WHY STRIDER SHOULD NEVER BE OF BEN PORTED TO THE NES. The music gives me a migrain. His awsome blad is know long as a leaf. Its just a screwed up game.

  • It's not a "port". It's a completely different game. And when your spelling and grammar is so awful, it really drives a hole through your point (Never be of ben?)

  • DUDE THE FRICKIN TITLE SAYS STRIDER. My cousin has this game! The box says strider! XP

  • And your point is? It's not the same game. They weren't trying to make the same came, or convert the Arcade or Genesis version to NES. They made an entirely different game from scratch and ued the same title.

I wish people would stop trying to compare the two. There -is- no comparison. There's not supposed to be.

  • Then this is some cheap rip off of the original strider

  • ....Nah This is actually the orginal story of the Striders believe it or not.

  • It is, come to think of it. I didn't check before, but the manga did come first. This was based on the manga, the other versions were (mostly) not.

  • NES Version is another concept, i think that is an very good game, i like soo much, the musics boss is more sinister than another versions but the contols lacks of precision

  • HIRYU means flying Dragon in Japanese.

  • nice strider but i like the genesis version better buyt at least the nes strider is better than the non-canon version of strider 2 made in the us.

  • Also when I see the beginning menu screen My mind just screams Ducktales.

  • Sorry about the language in my last comment. Lets just say this was a case where Genesis did what nintendo didn't.

  • No kidding. The Genesis was a more advanced system. You may as well compare a Pentium to a 286.

  • I'm not sure how the heck I missed a Sega/Nintendo flamewar here, but if I see that crap again, people are getting blocked. Let's try and express ourselves without blue language, mmmkay?

  • Interesting trivia regarding this game...

Strider NES is actually based on a short lived, and rare Japanese Strider manga which was an alternate Strider canon featuring these characters.

I love this game, actually. I'm even playing it on my old NES right now.

This game showed a lot of promise. The story was interesting and was actually fun, but sadly, the gameplay was kind of rushed and glitchy, thanks to Capcom really wanting to get this game out early to coincide with the manga.

  • Although the Genesis one was much closer to the arcade version of Strider, there was something really cool about the Nintendo one was played like an RPG. Like Metal Gear around the same time, Hiryu had different upgrades for his weapons and gear, which was nice.

  • That lighting can't be good for epileptics.

  • man, loved this game so much. I used to beat the game every time I'd play it, but I ever go tired of playing the game. The game got stolen and better games have come out since, so I have forgotten about, but, I used to love playing this game

  • genesis version is better

  • Yeah, but it's the Genesis. It's also a completely different game.

  • This game has probably the best graphics on the NES.

  • super mario 3 is.

  • For graphics, you want Kirby's Adventure. That game is absolutely great looking.

  • This game, along with Code Name Viper and some of the other Capcom games of the day did seem to have the most detailed graphics of the later NES games. However, games like Super Mario Brothers 3, Conquest of the Crystal Palace & Wizards & Warriors 3 seemed operate a bit smoother.

  • love this game

  • awesome...thank you!

  • I would love to see a Strider:Rearmed =) This game brings back many memories, I'll have to go play it again.

  • I beat it a few months on my NES emulator.

  • I love the intro music!

  • coool 3 1/2 inch floppy disc.

  • Man thanks for the post. I havent played in ages, and I tried just a while ago and couldent rember how to beat th efirst level.

  • thanx for posting this this game looks kick ass I have to play it

  • wow i didnt think id ever see this gane again, thx for showing it ^^
