After seeing this I don't think I'm gonna try the turn based mode, it seems hard to defend that way cause I see my opponent move and want to kick his butt into the field. But I can't cause it's my opponent's turn and they can walk all the way back to my touchdown zone.
Feel free to check my vid in real time, just know that the control isn't as accurate in real time, plus the speed difference isn't well represented (my beastmen not catching a dwrf on the run...)
I don't think or not that much at least. I think it's mostly a feeling you have in the beginning of a campaign, because your players are rookies, while the IA plays a team with some experience. This and the fact that you have few rerolls can make your players fail quite often at that point.
Besides, the IA like to try risky actions, so while it tends to fail mostof the time, in the ends it works sometimes and you feel like "WTF haxx!"

But hey, that's just my opinion.

Is it true the CPU favours itself on dice rolls in this game?

Later your players succeed more often.
