I'm finding comfort in some of these posts that I wasn't the only one that had dreams about this cartoon. Mine were more sexual but I see the alien thing, too. Has anyone investigated this cartoon more fully? I was born in the early 50's and may have viewed this who knows how many times. But it may have had more dream impact when I was 9? Don't know but this is the weirdest cartoon ever and yes --- terrifying!
Is it weird that I really liked this cartoon as a kid, despite the fact that I found it terrifying? I kind of wanted the fish family to come after Porky when he escaped. Lol.
I too used to get freaked the fuck out by this cartoon as a kid.But to be honest about it now that I'm an adult, and I know some shit or have experienced some really strange and messed up life changing shit that this cartoon most likely has something to do with ALIEN ABDUCTION and that's why it bothered me so much as a kid.You other folks out there who were affected in this way by it as kids if you don't already know so maybe look into this subject. You may find out something about your past,,,
to 143AC: I think this cartoon came out a year before Mel Blanc took over Porky's voice. You're right - this is Joe Daughtery's voice in this one - and he stuttered for real, and so badly, that they limited his script so they wouldn't run over budget!
This cartoon would probably never be seen on TV again as far as I know since for at least 2 minutes, Porky Pig is seen without any clothes on, even after his dream was over.
@Thekinggamelon I used to see this cartoon in vivid color way back in the early 1970s, years before colorization. I've been wondering what ever happened to it in color, and I think you're the first person I've run into who remembers seeing it in color.
Oh wow, for all these years the memory of this cartoon always stuck with me, creeped the hell out of me when I saw it as a kid, brought back memories when I saw it here and it's still freaky, glad too see I am not alone on this one.
Anyone else realize how sexual this cartoon is? It's like a big metaphor for fetish. Abduction fantasy (especially being victimized in his "dream" and waking to find his clothes gone), voraphilia, knife play, shirt cocking, 1950's household, asphyxiation, fire play, bondage, heck, the octopus even seems like a shout out to tentacle sex. And the fish with the snake in his mouth at about 6:00 sure looks suggestive to me.
@ObjetTrouve24 I know what you're saying. Fetishs/sadomasochist sex were extremely taboo subjects to talk about in the 1930s, but of course they have always existed in history. I think perhaps one of the animators was into that and maybe was venting through a metephoric cartoon to write and draw to escape social taboos of the time.
@emily7103 Oh seriously! I really wonder how much of it was on purpose and how much of it was like a freudian slip. Either way, it's fascinating to see how we express ourselves when we feel like we can't express ourselves. One way or the other, it's gotta come out somehow. I looked around, and it seems a lot of absurdist cartoons have something kinky going on. I wonder if anyone has written a book or something about it.
As you all know, this cartoon inexplicitly used the 1937-38 Looney Tunes theme ("The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down") when it was either redrawn in 1968 or after it was computer colorized in 1990, 1992 or 1995.
I first watched this "Looney Tunes"movie cartoon on WOR TV Ch.9 NYC's"Looney Tunes Show"With Mr.Herb Sheldon in 1959. I enjoyed it then and it still entertains me to this day.
Me too I haven't seen it in years I always felt so bad for poor Porky especially when he was in the roasting pan in the oven with the flames dancing around. At least it was all a dream.
And it';s the wrong theme music, too..a lot of that hapepned in the 1990s to these. But it is in black and white with original visual titles. NOT that pentagon for WB-Seven Arts or Korean colored.:)[ha ha]
@SteveCarras Nope. Back in the late 60s when WB/7Arts put it out as a hand-coloured toon, it had the "Beauty and the Beast" opening music and an opening theme similar to the music heard in the climactic scene. Given the opening titles, that was probably the correct music, but apparently there wasn't any way for Warners to preserve it.
I remember this one! Thanks so much for posting this one! WE should have ALL of the Looney Tunes, etc., with Bugs, Porky, and the rest, including those with no star characters, in a mega collection, in chronological order. THAT would be a treasure! I hope they'll do it someday... SOON! Thanks again!
Well, the Looney Tunes are out on DVD and they're cancelling their Golden Collection after this year so they can think of a new way to release them on DVD next year. If you're lucky, they probably will do a chronological order DVD set (I doubt it, but hey, you never know).
