  • Both Fred and Dorothy are hilariously funny in this clip --- thanks so much for posting!!!

  • Arlene gets so much praise, not that she doesn't deserve it: but I think Dorothy was a darling too and wonderfully dressed as often as Arlene.

  • The lady worked at the Great Northern hotel, which is the same name as the hotel in the David Lynch tv series Twin Peaks.

  • What a babe! What a funny episode! Thanks for the post!

  • i don't think dorothy killgallen tests the production code as much as fred allen does here. "do you touch your clients EXTERNALLY?" nearly fell off me chair!

  • I would've been totally lost if I was on the panel. Until just now, I never knew such an occupation existed as Hotel Detective...

Wonder what it's like being a Hotel Detective...anybody?

  • There are several old movies you clold watch to give you an idea. Watch "Topper" made in 1938

    I hope that helps.

  • Wow, thanks! I hope I can get a hold of that film...

  • The movie is on youtube.

  • they probably don't have people doing that anymore--probably done with computers.

  • ...Hm...that is cool, but on the other hand, that kinda sucks.

I mean, the whole thing being done on computers...not that I have anything against it :-P

  • @OldTimerGoGetter Ever see the Maltese Falcon? Sam Spade turns Elisha Cook over to the hotel house detective

  • Can you do it standing up?

Can you do it sitting down?

Is there any other way of doing it?

    I love it.

  • Was Arlene trying to ask a question at the end? Wonder what it was...

Great WML segment. Hilariously funny as loads of the regular contestants seem to be!

  • "I know what you had in mind"

    That doesn't help things, John.

  • The guest's looks transcends different eras and looks just as attractive by today's standards without being anachronistic.

  • yes this look is right back in style again. It sure wasn't in the 70's!

  • @Muffy2314 -- Your aware this is from the 1950's right? Kilgallen was not alive to see the 70's.

  • John Dalys face was very funny just before Dorothy asked what that expression was for.

  • LMAO at Dorothy. "Is there any other way of doing it besides that?"

  • is there any other way of doing it.... lol

  • Fred Allen's question pushed the censor code button more than Dorothy...yikes!!! lol!

  • Haha yes - &it makes Mr. Daly really out of words :P

  • Thanx for posting this example of why WML still entertains. Gil Fates wrote WML worked at 75% straight game playing (DK, AF, BC) and 25% comedy (Allen). When AF and BC or EVEN DKilgallen came up with funny things, it was a bonanza. Kilgallen seriously played to win: when she said something funny, her seriousness made it doubly funny. In 1958, she questioned a horse owner thinking the transport in question was a CAR. Boffo laughs and howls from the audience. She eventually laughed, too.

  • You're really knowledgable of WML, soulier.

  • I really like Fred Allen on the old clips

  • Do you touch the people externally? LOL Even in his late stage, Fred Allen is funny funny man. If you get a chance to listen to his radio programs on streaming audio, do. His radio programs are still funny stuff.

  • a great show!
