Please don't listen to this guy about not securing your food bag properly. Do a search for the PCT method, its easy to put up and easy to take down for you, not for the bear. And yes, the bear can smell your food, even through a bag.

I dont need to carry food in my backpack. I'm straight out rugged. I go butt naked and eat berries like bush people. lol

How big a problem is defending your food?!
From experience animals are not going to attack you and steal your food unless you are dumb enough to:
1. Leave it out in the open.
2. Have food which produces a strong aroma (smell).
3. Leave garbage out at night/when your away.
4. Eat or prepare a meal while an animal is close by.
The idea that yogi bear is going to come steal your picnic basket is crazy.
People the idea of tying your food up in a tree shows that you are a paranoid fool. DON'T!
