Jakey - that's usually because your shoes are either not laced up securely or you have bad shoes. If you're running, you need running shoes. Asics are a good start and in the UK sales a good pair is only £25 ($45)

You check any advice on running and it will tell you to hold arms at 90 degree angle with palms facing your body or fists closed with thumbs touching index finger, any body making fun of this is clueless.
I learned as a child to run faster by running on the front portion of my feet. Is this why my feet have been cramping when I run. Ive tried about 4 different running shoes. The first thing i noticed about this video is he runs with his whole foot.
@CreativePotion Yeah hes got it down to a science lol:) "Keep your eyes forward, dont slouch, dont tilt your neck, dont overstride." Breathing and foot placement are key, the arms at 90 degrees not so much but it does work your shoulders out.
Just so you people know. jogging is in fact a twentieth century invention. biomechanically people are not designed to jog. so long as you jog and dont run properly, say with the pose method, you will experience joint pain which could leed to a long term injury.
Thanks for these tips. I just started jogging again after a 20 year hiatus and was wondering about some of the things you covered. Yeah, I was doing several things wrong such as landing on my heal btw... Now if I can only dodge the poison ivy a bit better I'm set ;-)

@HCNguyen86 how come when i run i have a little bit of a lower back pain like i just lifted weights? just wondering if you know cuz i have had that happen for so long no
@T1TakeDown Well there is a lot of factors that come into play but i would have to say that you are probably not keeping your back straight when running.
how are people allowed to teach this? step one. take off those massive rubber blocks off your feet at go barefoot. step 2 get off your heels! run midfoot, its the way humans are intended to run. Somehow shoe companies have tricked us into believing we need to buy their expensive products when really all we need are our own two feet!
Oh my god are you kidding me before you jog you make sure youre not dehydrated and have a heart monitore and then warm up then strech then you go jogging youre very rediculouse for think people need help to jog give me a break bwahahahahaha!

@TheBlamus Sprinting isnt good for weight loss. Jogging is good for burning calories because you can do it for long periods of time. Sprinting is only for short periods of time. But if your already in shape and dont need to lose any weight sprinting is great. Sprinting and running use different energy systems in the body.
I tried running and it was too stressful on my joints so I'm thinking that jogging would better - shorter strides, coming down flatter on the feet, etc. Advice is welcome. My main objective (I'm 61) is to improve my overal body tone and cardiovascular. Not looking to run a marathon unless a miracle happens :).
Swinging the arms actually help pump and drain the lymphatic system parts by the arm pits, sides and neck. This helps get rid of the toxins that the system is supposed to be getting rid of through sweat. So jogging for at least ten minutes is best.
I guess you need imaginary lat syndrome like the sterotypical runner. We got 2 at my gym they will curl 20 lb dumbells, then benchpress 135 lbs while snorting and yelling then walk around with ILS like their arms are broke.
that's an ok info but shoes are also very important factor in running/jogging. it could be an stability shoes or a cushioning one. no matter how you do your posture correctly if you are wearing improper ones could affect mainly your knees. done it before and i felt it as i get older.
Ayye you guys have to back down this guy. My best friend jogged for a year and she had absolutely no injuries she was in perfect shape. Now she has to get knee surgery because her jogging posture was not correct. So you know what all you joggers that are hatin- keep on laughing and making fun of him. He'll be the one laughing while yous are gettin surgeries, sprained ankles and other injuries.
not really funny, if you do not know how to jog the correct way it can lead to injury over a long period .. my uncle jogged for uears everyday only to later on suffer spine and knee problems resulting from his jogging which lead him to be unable to jog anymore ... so laugh it up now fools... this guy int he video will be the one laughing later.
@evilhomer11 I can agree with that, I jogged for 5-6 years and in the end I pushed too hard, everyday and I injured my knee and I can't jog now, even walking long distances hurt. So yeah, technique is essential and is not a joke. Also, the sneakers are key, the surface you jog on and warming up too.
Could you tell me how not to get lower leg back strain after jogging? I get it all the time the next day even though I try to stretch before joggin :(
one person says to land flat footed, one says to do heel strike and then some say land on your toes........im very confused so im just gonna try it each way and see what works for me..
im not gonna lie... i have never FLAT FOOTED... its horrible... what i do it i run like 5K with school and 26Ks *half marathon* i normally will run heel toe for like 3/4th the way and 1/4th at the end toe heel....
well I land on my heel first but the front ball it's the grind directly after...I dont know how one could do it flat footed...seems un natural....and landing on the front part first seem even more un natural...just do what feels best for you.
@39chelle See, you're getting confused about different runs. Landing on your toes is for SPRINTS, it means your pushing your body forward faster, and your leaning forward a lot. When doing "heel strikes" thats for probably any other running. But I don't think you should run flat footed because the impact on your feet landing flat will be bad on your knees.
@EversmanSAT omg... landing on your heels is the worst care scenario. it causes lots of force on your whole leg. you want to land on the balls of your feet. this gives a spring effect and absorbs the forces involved much better. Try running barefoot about 10% of your time running and you will learn the proper "mid-foot/fore-foot strike".
Thank you!!!

I've been told it's a shin splint, and that i should stretch it and ice it often!
HitchHikersBlues 3 weeks ago
@HitchHikersBlues yes warmup stretching prior to jogging is important.
otherwise see a doctor. Do dot strain yourself. They comeback with age.
namibiapa 3 weeks ago
@namibiapa Yes, I've just realized how important stretching actually is.
So far, the pain i my right leg has eased up a bit after resting and icing it for a week or two.
I think that maybe i did too much to begin with, or didn't stretch and warm up properly??

not really funny, if you do not know how to jog the correct way it can lead to injury over a long period .. my uncle jogged for uears everyday only to later on suffer spine and knee problems resulting from his jogging which lead him to be unable to jog anymore ... so laugh it up now fools... this guy int he video will be the one laughing later.
evilhomer11 1 year ago 31
@evilhomer11 I can agree with that, I jogged for 5-6 years and in the end I pushed too hard, everyday and I injured my knee and I can't jog now, even walking long distances hurt. So yeah, technique is essential and is not a joke. Also, the sneakers are key, the surface you jog on and warming up too.

@evilhomer11 yeah... my friend's grandfather DIED after lying immediately after a jog.
amirul264 10 months ago
@amirul264 my grandpa died even without jogging at all!! so it's dangerous even if you don't do it!
assailant85 10 months ago
@assailant85 I'm just saying that without a proper knowledge on how to jog, it's very dangerous.

one person says to land flat footed, one says to do heel strike and then some say land on your toes........im very confused so im just gonna try it each way and see what works for me..
39chelle 2 years ago 6
im not gonna lie... i have never FLAT FOOTED... its horrible... what i do it i run like 5K with school and 26Ks *half marathon* i normally will run heel toe for like 3/4th the way and 1/4th at the end toe heel....
12rossja 2 years ago
@39chelle Heel first puts pressure on you're knees.
sarethums 2 years ago 3
well I land on my heel first but the front ball it's the grind directly after...I dont know how one could do it flat footed...seems un natural....and landing on the front part first seem even more un natural...just do what feels best for you.
cheryl1358 2 years ago
@39chelle See, you're getting confused about different runs. Landing on your toes is for SPRINTS, it means your pushing your body forward faster, and your leaning forward a lot. When doing "heel strikes" thats for probably any other running. But I don't think you should run flat footed because the impact on your feet landing flat will be bad on your knees.
EversmanSAT 1 year ago
@EversmanSAT omg... landing on your heels is the worst care scenario. it causes lots of force on your whole leg. you want to land on the balls of your feet. this gives a spring effect and absorbs the forces involved much better. Try running barefoot about 10% of your time running and you will learn the proper "mid-foot/fore-foot strike".

say this to joggers when you pass them on the sidewalk, etc:
"pay it forward!"
they appreciate it.
