Yes I agree with you, judycfs! And I do love Shlomo Mintz's performance. However, my teacher wants me to play this piece much slower, which is rather difficult to do without ruining the melody. Do you know about another, slower version? ;)
I have a lot of ShlomoMintz recordings-CDs and I have also Mendelssohn-BruchViolin Concertos/SHLOMO MINTZ ChicagoSymphony Orchestra Claudio Abbado,so I can listen to& enjoy those concertos, but sometime it's very nice to watch his play.I like this concert with Israel Philharmonic Orchestra Zubin Mehta too.I also adore his recording- Lalo:Symphonie Espagnole..withIsrael Philharmonic Orchestra&Zubin Mehta-Live recordings,it's my favourite..There is the same orchestra and the same conductor! Thanks!
His hair is indisputably red on my screen as well as his CD covers. But these pictures and this footage are a few years old so perhaps his hair has gotten more pale. When was your class with him? Guessing from his style of playing, I'll bet he is a very effective communicator, and a very genuine, nice person. Yes??
It was around 2002 when I had the first masterclass with him. He was very direct with his comments, much like his playing, and gave willingly of his time for the masterclasses.
I admire how he uses bowings and fingerings other than the tired ones outlined by Galamian, which are typically used by all the female Asian violinists from Juilliard.
I meant to rate this five stars - sorry. Shlomo Mintz is really the finest violinist in my eyes. If I could emulate ANYONE on that instrument, it would be Shlomo (well, Isaac Stern, too). He is pure, unaffected, classy and classic.
Great to hear a violinist with a gift.

I've definitely got a thing for brilliant red haired violinists.

They are pretty awesome, starting with none other than Vivaldi! But does Shlomo have red hair? I had a masterclass with him and it only seemed blonde
