My grandfather had an extreme case of claustrophobia till the day he died from being shot down in a plane flying over Korea. He got trapped in the burning wreckage for a while but somehow he got out thank god.

My Great Grandfather (May he rest in peace) served in the Korean War. I was little when he was around, I regret so much asking him about the war, and his Experience. He was an amazing man, and to the end was always hopeful and happy. I miss him a lot and would do anything to see him again. He went through a lot in his life, and was spared when only losing most of his hearing after a land mine went off near him. He will always be in my heart, my memory. R.I.P Donald.
Thanks to Americans and all the allies who sent troops and help to a helpless and unknown small country in the Northeast corner of Asia. Your sacrifices secured freedom for the 50 million people in the southern part of Korea, 120 million people of Japan and untold millions in the rest of Asia possible. Even China opened to the Western capitalism after Deng observed during the 1988 Olympics how far South Korea advanced. Really, China fought against their own freedom and progress in 1950 Korea.
We really appreciate all the Korean War veterans from all over the world, US, England, Turkey, Canada, etc.... Without these veterans, we couldn't have achieved a current economic success after the war. It is all thanks to the veterans that I can live a happy life as a South Korean with freedom, not like a North Korean.

My uncle fought in this war. I really didn't know till a few years ago that he had served. Since then Ive been thinking about thanking him for his service. I don't know how to approach him about it though. What would I be able to say to him about it? I don't know. I know Korea is a "forgotten war" so I wonder if he would appreciate it, or maybe take it in a bad way and think about friends he lost and hardships, ect.

After Japan's unconditional surrender in late August/ early September of '45 (there's no set date), U.S. and the Soviet Union divided and occupied Japan and its territories for a number of years to insure Japan would not begin warfare anew and to help it regain stability. Korea happened to be divided into southern democratic Korea (controlled by U.S.) and northern communist Korea (controlled by the Soviet Union).

korean area is a strategic place in East Asia. It was not that the United States was mainly concerned about the Korean people. They were fighting the Cold War and did not want communist influence to gain ground there. If communism were to take control, Japan would be all alone. The United States could not let that happen.

My Great Grandfather (May he rest in peace) served in the Korean War. I was little when he was around, I regret so much asking him about the war, and his Experience. He was an amazing man, and to the end was always hopeful and happy. I miss him a lot and would do anything to see him again. He went through a lot in his life, and was spared when only losing most of his hearing after a land mine went off near him. He will always be in my heart, my memory. R.I.P Donald.

Thanks to Americans and all the allies who sent troops and help to a helpless and unknown small country in the Northeast corner of Asia. Your sacrifices secured freedom for the 50 million people in the southern part of Korea, 120 million people of Japan and untold millions in the rest of Asia possible. Even China opened to the Western capitalism after Deng observed during the 1988 Olympics how far South Korea advanced. Really, China fought against their own freedom and progress in 1950 Korea.

Without these veterans, we couldn't have achieved a current economic success after the war. My uncle fought in this war. I really didn't know till a few years ago that he had served. Since then Ive been thinking about thanking him for his service. I don't know how to approach him about it though. What would I be able to say to him about it? I don't know. I know Korea is a "forgotten war" so I wonder if he would appreciate it, or maybe take it in a bad way and think about friends he lost and hardships, ect.

After Japan's unconditional surrender in late August/ early September of '45 (there's no set date), U.S. and the Soviet Union divided and occupied Japan and its territories for a number of years to insure Japan would not begin warfare anew and to help it regain stability. Korea happened to be divided into southern democratic Korea (controlled by U.S.) and northern communist Korea (controlled by the Soviet Union).

korean area is a strategic place in East Asia. It was not that the United States was mainly concerned about the Korean people. They were fighting the Cold War and did not want communist influence to gain ground there. If communism were to take control, Japan would be all alone. The United States could not let that happen.

Did we win? What an egotistical, American-centric, idiotic question. Its not about America winning. We were helping a newly aquired country of people defend themselves from an aggressive counterpart hell-bent on imposing their beliefs upon them. They were stopped, so the action was a success.
