hello Memphis slim,as a guitar builder myself, I know it's not so much high action that makes for "loud",but rather the "break angle" over the saddle (all other things being equal) that gives volume.talk to a luthier before doing anything drastic, and yes, galaghers are great guitars.
I have exactly the same guitar, and I"m a finger picker.. I found the action to be high, more for Bluegrass flat pick type players, and I'm considering lowering the strings a bit to more fit my style.. beautiful guitar and this baby is LOUD. Galagher says the higher action creates the extra strong volume (which I believe), so that's the tradeoff, less volume for more playability.

im thinking about buying one of these...how was the action from the factory? did it come set up for .13's? how is it for flatpicking?
