Dude, this is abso-fuckin-lutely AWESOME! I can hardly belive how clean, mellow and with a wailing-crunch those notes and your sound comin' from that thing is. Super CooL and diggin' it HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so inspired by and Love well-done DIY musical instruments. I just gotta get busy and make some!
I worked on this over a few weeks in-between other things. I have to say I did spend a few hours trying to find the neatest way to bring it all together. Once I had marked everything out, the cutting and shaping was pretty fast. Mounting the pickup took longer than expected - it was a very snug fit !
Sounds gooood!!! I'm going to make me a lap steel too, and your idea is very inspirational! and the tune itself is very interesting, not like those other tunes they use to play on lap steels!

Hi, this has a 9 - 42 set - but I think I went too light ! Next set will be 10 - 46.
I find that with the 9 - 42 I have to be be careful not to press too hard with the slide - the strings are just too 'slinky'. I also would like a better bass response, and a slight increase in gauge would help this.
Hi, I liked this so much when I saw it on guitarz(dot)blogspot(dot)com/2010/09/home-made-aluminium-lap-steel(dot)html and now I have nearly finished my own instrument - copying your design (aluminium bar for a 6 string lap steel) - I would like to know what string gauges did you use for your instrument? I tried a set of baritone strings - .013-.062 but seems that the wound strings sound no good and the thicker is the string the worse it sounds
i would love to tune a lap steel to like drop C with a humbucker and play some metal on stage with it to see peoples reactions. well done! and good pickup choice
Holy crap - that was nice. Hope you have got a proper slide now and spent some time on the thing. It would be time well spent. Excellent! Take it all the way.

what did you use to make that?

@Casebomb
It's made from part of a double glazed window frame - originally intended for a large shop window.

Thanks for your nice comments Max ! Regarding the tune, the lap steel was in regular guitar tuning and it seemed natural to play something bluesy.
It would be good to see your lap steel when it's finished !

@marscape1 Once You sure will!! By the way, the guitar I play on my videos I made myself too ;)

hi, what string gauges do you use? I tried the 0.013 .061 baritone set - it seems to be a wrong choice for my aluminium bar lap steel
