    Keep-oN!

  • @starmanskye

Great to read your comments !

Nice to think I might have inspired you in some way - let me know how you go on with your own instruments.

  • wow very good and it sounds good too

  • @bluejay148

    Thank you !

  • I think you have a product on your hands. That's a fine looking lap steel! Sounds real good, too.

  • @Stratosphoria

It's encouraging to read your comments !

  • sounds very good!!

    yes

  • You're Mr. DIY Boss :) great job!

  • @BAK87

    Thanks very much !!

  • Awesome!!!!!! I am a guitarist and a former glazier, and to see a piece of a window frame used to make music is absolutely awesome!

  • @cpage07

    Thanks !!

  • cool

  • Killing tone.

  • @Max0Inq

    I appreciate your comment !

  • what did you use to make that?

  • @Casebomb

It's made from part of a double glazed window frame - originally intended for a large shop window.

  • man thats boss !!!

  • @dendendn

    Thanks !!

  • This is brilliant!

It's nice to see some talented luthiers showing their stuff.

How long did it take to make?

  • @ChemHandbook

    Thanks !

I worked on this over a few weeks in-between other things. I have to say I did spend a few hours trying to find the neatest way to bring it all together. Once I had marked everything out, the cutting and shaping was pretty fast. Mounting the pickup took longer than expected - it was a very snug fit !

  • @marscape1 Sounds pretty awesome too.

You should make a video of you playing it!

  • @ChemHandbook

Thanks - I found a setting on the Korg that seemed to suit it.. I will try to do a proper video of me playing it !

  • Sounds gooood!!! I'm going to make me a lap steel too, and your idea is very inspirational! and the tune itself is very interesting, not like those other tunes they use to play!

    BRAVO!

  • @MaxVatutin

Thanks for your nice comments Max ! Regarding the tune, the lap steel was in regular guitar tuning and it seemed natural to play something bluesy.

It would be good to see your lap steel when it's finished !

  • @marscape1 Once You sure will!! By the way, the guitar I play on my videos I made myself too ;)

  • hi, what string gauges do you use? I tried the 0.013 .061 baritone set - it seems to be a wrong choice for my aluminium bar lap steel

  • @123marijus

    Hi, this has a 9 - 42 set - but I think I went too light ! Next set will be 10 - 46.

I find that with the 9 - 42 I have to be be careful not to press too hard with the slide - the strings are just too 'slinky'. I also would like a better bass response, and a slight increase in gauge would help this.

  • Hi, I liked this so much when I saw it on guitarz(dot)blogspot(dot)com/2010/09/home-made-aluminium-lap-steel(dot)html and now I have nearly finished my own instrument - copying your design (aluminium bar for a 6 string lap steel) - I would like to know what string gauges did you use for your instrument? I tried a set of baritone strings - .013-.062 but seems that the wound strings sound no good and the thicker is the string the worse it sounds

  • i would love to tune a lap steel to like drop C with a humbucker and play some metal on stage with it to see peoples reactions. well done! and good pickup choice

  • well done. looks better than other lap steels

  • @geiroffenberg Thanks for your kind words !

  • wow

    holy crap

what a beautiful instrument!!! well done!!!!!!

  • @unstrung13

Thank you for your kind words - they make it all worthwhile !

  • Holy crap - that was nice. Hope you have got a proper slide now and spent some time on the thing. It would be time well spent. Excellent! Take it all the way.

  • Thanks for your comments allan ! I've been distracted by other projects for a while, but I will be using it again soon. Will post the soundtrack.

  • Thanks Warchild, glad you enjoyed it !

  • You don't give yourself enough credit. Not only does the guitar sound great, but you wail!!!

  • Thanks - your comments are really appreciated !

  • Thanks !
