I've visited the Island in 04' and outside the resorts, from what I saw, it looked extremely poor. I live in st.lucia. I'm from new york but I have alot of family here so I'm staying here until I'm old enough to get out myself. It's not as bad as you make it out to be, on my everyday life I never see people living in huts. You'll only see stuff like that if you're in some kind of tourist attraction. i stayed in the sandals grande st. lucian. it was located in the north west side of the island. we had a guy drive us all around the island for two days. ok, grass huts...maybe i was exaggerating a bit. but cinder block houses with tin roof yes.
