  • Dreadful accident record. Anybody remeber the one that crashed in coventry 1988, i was standing across the road from the scene!

  • Brings back old memories hearing the typical Meteor howl. I'm quite sure that I heard a Hawker Hunter starting up when the Meteor was on finals. You can guess my age by now :-)

  • The 262 to the Meteor was oudated. The pilot was too far back with poor visibility - a throwover from piston planes. The Meteor had the pilot way forward.

262 had its wings more swept & a piston plane body. Swept wings gave poor agility - UK & US jet had straight wings for dog-flights post WW2.

Meteor was all pure jet body with a fully develeoped engine with twice the power/weight ratio, far superior fuel consumption of 262 - lasted 150 hours not 10.

Meteor was in opeation until the 80s

  • @NearAbbeyRoad Still two flying now for the Martin-Baker company (Jan 2012) as ejection seat testbeds.

  • Hey squizzo. the Germans developed there jet without knowing the British were developing theirs. the Heinkel 178 flew in 1939 BEFORE the Gloster E28 in 1941. check it out . the British gave their technology to the Americans. get it right

  • @Greynerd

The 262 was far underdeveloped and panicked into service. It was a glorified kamikazee plane, as it sometimes went back to base, unlike Jap planes. It killed more German than allied men because of compessor stall, & engine fail.

The first operational fighter in operation to "fight the enemy" was the British Meteor. The 262 was in a squadron for testing purposes first, one 262 met a Mosquito which flew off. The Meteor was first to shoot down an airborne weapon - which was also a jet

  • A lot of idiots think Nazi Germany invented the jet and had the first flying jet fighter.

    It was England.

The US wasn't even in the running and had to steal British technology to even try.

  • Why are people still flying in this. Its a piece of shi*t. There are new planes that are better now, like the boeing or the Huey 3.

  • @legendoffuzz

I guess that you have zero appreciation for history......

  • @legendoffuzz This is a WW2 fighter, being flown at an airshow.

  • Those damn T-6 Texans, always gotta ruin the fun of the landing!

  • Yeah! my city built this!

  • @ObsidianGamer same here!!!

  • Use to see a lot of aircraft flying in and out of Filton (home of Concord) before the industry got kind of hammered. Use to see a Meteor together with a Vampire on the odd occasion when an airshow was held but I guess I'm showing my age now :)

  • I've always liked the Gloster Meteor. I wonder if the one in this footage is preserved from Australia's 77th Squadron during Korea?

  • I love AirShows!

  • this aircraft looks almost the same as the me 262 i love it

  • amazing that this was only a few years after the Lancaster bomber.

  • Here in Salvador, Brazil, there is one exposed at the entrance of Salvador Air Base - Brazilian Air Force. Thanks, bro. I'd never seen a Meteor airborne... Untill now.

  • Beautiful aircraft, they flew in the Fuerza Aerea Argentina from 1947 to 1971

  • I'm so glad to see these old historic jets still flying.

  • @TV843 Only one historic jet that will never fly again is the German Horten GO-229

  • @lknott93 Who knows, maybe one day. There are people out there building replicas of Me-262s and someone even restored one of Jack Northrup's early flying wing designs.

  • lovely blue note at 1:22

  • im surprised theres still lfying these planes.

  • ive played with this plane on Blazing angels squadrons of ww2, and its almost in possible to land it on the runway in the game lol

  • Fly in Brazilian Air Force. 1960`s. is a beautiful plane! congratulations!!

  • such a sexi plane. (yes, planes can be sexi)

  • Ok, it's a good plane BUT Me-262 was much better then this plane.

    This is my opinion.....

  • On what basis? The Meteor Mk1 of 1943/44 had lower paper performance than the Me262, but the Me262 could only fly for 10 hours ops before an engine rebuild. Meteor F4 and F8 had higher speeds, altitude and range. The Meteor stayed in production for 14 years and was used by 17 air forces. The Czechs, who carried on making the ME262 canned it in 1947. The video is almost certainly of the F 8 (VH-MBX, Military S/N: VZ467

  • I am deeply impressed to learn that the Brits beat the Me 262 by two months.

  • because we created the air force and if you knew your history we have a long tradition of making the best planes not to mention having the greatest navy in the world straight out of the Clyde

  • When was that, I know you have the famous English Muffins and thats about it the rest of the stuff you mentioned can be only boasted by an American.

  • dat guy vnck25 is an ignorant moron..dont mind him man

  • Thank u for appreciating my capabilities

  • ignorance****

  • Exactly, on the part of the British I completly agree with you on that

  • You're an idiot. This was the first allied jet fighter, and I'm pretty sure the Germans wouldn't have been willing to lend a few of theirs.

  • Okay if you say so its German.

  • meteor design is very beautiful, reminds me to the me262

  • The Meteor was out classed by the Chinese Migs in the Korean War. The RAAF did manage to shoot down a few though...

  • Ironically the Migs were powered by a Rolls Royce engine given to Russia for copying.

  • My father flew a F-8 and TF-7 in the Brazilian Air Force from 1951 to 1967 and was his favourite aircraft. The sounds remain the same

  • Used to love seeing the Meteor get airborne from Chalgrove and flying over Benson when I worked at Benson up until the beginning of this year.

  • my father flew a meteor whislt in the RAF still my favourite aircaft and always will be

  • My father also flew this aircraft (f-8 and tf-7) in the Brazilian Air Force from 1951 to 1967 and was his favourite aircraft

  • Thanks. Never seen a Meteor airborne - but one of my favourite aircraft. Only a mediocre performer but she represents a great period of aviation history - and pilots smoked pipes and wore a tie!!

  • This aircraft represented the new age of the jet airplanes. I loved this sound !!

  • @mig25pd Nah that was just David Niven!

  • @mig25pd Although she WAS a mediocre performer by today's standards she was the fastest plane in the world for several years and was much superior to either USA or USSR jets of 1945...

  • 'Blue-Note' at 1:22. Awesome.

  • I heard the difference, but can you depict to me exactly what is a 'blue-note'??? Cheers (:

  • the blue-note is created when air is rushed over the gun-ports and into the intakes at great speed...much like when you blow down into a beer bottle.

There's many theories but it's a beautiful haunting sound reminiscent of jets of this era.
