@boosteddrifter Thanks! I never thought straight pipes would sound this good. I still need to upload some driving videos for you guys. It's sounds just as sweet inside too.
@kjwade they are definitely legal. The CATs are still there, so there aren't any emission issues. Maybe if your town had a noise ordinance, but they aren't that loud. Harley's are much, much noisier.
@kcjace I think I might just do this... If you have the chance can u upload one of you taking off with moderate acceleration? Are u on 6crew or anything
@kaidiau - I think it was like $120 for the work and the new tips. I was going to spend like $400 on new Flowmaster mufflers, but after hearing what it sounds like straight, I just did. Saved $300 and sounds better than any Flowmasters.
And yes I know, I should have put 4 inch tips on :(
Going to take off the mufflers in the morning. No one on 6club responds these days, so I thought I'd ask you. Are they just bolted on, or am I going to have to dig out my Sawzall? I have the 04 6S in I believe its called Sonic Blue...lol. Injen CAI and HID lows/fogs. Fun little replacement to my Saturn Ion Sport 5-speed sedan.
@americansmark - I don't recall if they were bolted on or not. I had a muffler shop do the work, and I'm pretty sure he just cut them off right after the Y-pipe and welded two new sections on and put tips on. So yeah, I think you'll need your Sawzall!
@kcjace I ended up having to take it to a muffler shop. My bolts were in bad shape and I broke my blade on the sawzall. Either way, enjoy the new sound. Mechanic gave me hell for driving around with no tailpipes, but we have no emissions check here or any sound ordinances so I should be fine.
@AMINALandSilver I have so many forums and things to follow anymore (CobaltSS.net NASIOC, 6Club, Jalopnik), I would lose track if I added another 6 forum. I thought 6 crew was shut down anyway?
Mazda sits right now. Motor blew last week. Seeing as I bought it from a dealership coughRIDENOURMOTORSinNEWLEXINGTONOHcough in August, I'm trying to get them to cover the damage seeing as the plugs were destroyed when they sold it to me. I'm pissed. It dumped fuel into the cat causing it to clog.
@americansmark@americansmark whoever told you 6crew was shut down needs to be slapped with a ninny stick. 6crew is very much alive and growing rapidly.
@AMINALandSilver lol. I ended up creating an account. I forget what the other forum was that merged with 6club. That was what I was thinking of. Anyway, my handle is 1GoZoom on 6crew, so feel free to say hello.
question, what if you don't put the CAI in? would that make a difference? not really a mechanic myself, just looking to upgrade the stock 'noise' mine makes (2005 V6 5speed)
@beret90g - I don't know beret. I'm sure it would help out with the sound, but I'm not sure about the airflow difference with not have a CAI. Take it to a shop, have them cut off the stock mufflers and start it up. If it sounds like crap, weld some Magnaflows on it.
@pioneers8 - I have the cp-e MAFCi cold air intake system with the fuel chip customizer. The chip regulates the fuel/air mixture depending on the RPM level and throttle input. Below 75% throttle or 4000 RPM, the chip keeps the engine in Closed Fuel Loop Mode. Above 75% throttle or 4000 RPM, it goes into Open Fuel Loop mode which gives the maximum fuel to the system. It literally pushes me into the seat when it does that.

@greenwell2010 - we just cut the mufflers off right after the single pipe from the headers makes the Y. Then welded new pipes to the back and put some tips on. Done and done. Make sure he gets the CP-e cold air kit. Not sure what this exhaust would sound like with the stock engine.
Yep. Just cut the mufflers off and ran new pipes out to the tips. Was going to put Magnaflows or something on, but when we started after he cut the mufflers off, I realized that was the sound I wanted. Simple, cheaper, and I think sounds better!
No, they pass inspection just fine. I still have my catalytic converters, so the only difference from the stock exhaust is I don't have the mufflers anymore. And aside from noise regulations in certain towns, they are perfectly legal.
@VANisOFFtheWALL22 it all depends on the car and emissions, the reson he says his will pass is because he still has the cats, normally when you straight pipe the cats come off
hey bro, sounds really nice man, i have a 6s too, i only have AEM CAI in it, cant afford CPE haha, so how much did the straight pipes costs you? im interested to do that too
Hey man. The straight pipes were so simple. They just cut off the factory mufflers and welded a straight pipes on and put new tips. Cost like $100. Was going to put new mufflers on, but after hearing the straight pipes, I was sold! Would seriously recommend it.
Yeah, I was worried about the power loss, but I would almost say I gained a little. Seemed a little more responsive after I did the exhaust. Probably just in my head though. The sound is what I was really going for.
awesome mann, now im gonna tell my cousin to do it for me, since he owns a BMW tuning shop, ill bring the pipes n tips and hopefully he do it for me for free, thnx again man!!
@kaidiau its not a turbo so back pressure wont be a major issue at all .. relatively you would have a minor hp gain do to the fact the its pushing air quicker..
so how do you like that shitty ford/Mazda bcuz that's what it is. apart of ford motor company and if you don't think so take the top off and the intake and you will see a ford logo same ass the oil pan. hope you didn't like ford cuz that's what you got
Ha ha. You make me LOL. I never claim it to be the most amazing car in the world. It was a great price and It's been a great car. 67,000 miles and not a single problem. no i drive a 97 chevy suburban and a 99 chevy silverado. no t tops. you stick with that ford and yeah maybe you can be cool like me but you gotta lose the ford hahaha
ford took a lot of mazdas designs and put em in their cars (i.e. the focus, explorer, probe). just like toyota & chevy. the gm pontiac vibe has a toyota engine, and the cavalier well just search toyota cavalier. have fun finding toyota parts in your GM
no ford is on mazda the mzda symbol is not in ford. and all the chevys i worked on have chevy parts not any others and suzuki and isuzu and toyota all have chevy parts not the other way around dumbass why would a big name company put cheap parts like that on theres unless they are in another country were the other company is bigger go back to Reading my shit cuz you will never know what ur talking about
yea just like you know soo much about a company you dont like cuz of the name(ford) and a brand youv never had (mazda). just like you said

Toyota and General Motors signed an historic agreement to sell the Chevy Cavalier in Japan as the Toyota Cavalier. In a sense, the U.S.-built but Japanese-inspired Cavalier was returning home. The popular Cavalier,
which was first introduced in 1981, was Detroit's answer to Japan's fuel-efficient and well-made compacts. Japanese automakers had taken the U.S. automobile market by storm during the 1970s, largely due to consumer demand for fuel-efficiency and durability during a time of oil crises and recession. It took a decade for the Big Three to bounce back from the blow,
finally gaining ground in the early 1980s with Japanese-inspired compacts like the Chevy Cavalier. The Cavalier was the best-selling Chevy model in modern history, and the top-selling U.S. car in 1984. By the late 1980s, Detroit's relationship with Japanese automakers had stabilized--major Japanese plants opened across the United States

Not sure about the loss of gas mileage. Haven't got the greatest mileage since I put the CP-e intake and chip on it because I can't help stepping on the throttle! If I baby it though, I can get pretty decent numbers...

did they just cut ur mufflers and replace with pipes and tips?
because Im going to buy straight pipes from a guy
its after the Y pipe with 4in tips
its bolts on, so i can just simply swap the straight pipes and stock
hes asking for 135 (85 + 50shipping)
i guess its a good deal right>?
