I love how this was stated: " Belle was beautiful, but unaware of it.....she is a character that is not only beautiful on the outside but on the inside as well."
Love this movie. Fun fact: the directing job was first offered to Richard Williams, the man best known for doing all of the animation in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He declined in order to finish his dream project, the Thief and the Cobbler. It could have been a very different movie (not saying better, just saying different).
I love how Disney always adds little friends to the main caracters like Ariel's fish, Aladdin's monkey and magic carpet, Cinderella's mice, and in Beauty and the Beast its the candle stick and Mrs. Pott. I think these characters make the movies so magical
I can really relate to Belle. Everyone says I look like her. I also love reading a lot and am close to my father. I've always felt like I wanted to do something big with my life. I can't stand macho guys like Gaston. I'm more into the shy, sweet types. I love how they used Gaston as a parody against those types of guys, showing that being strong and tough doesn't always get you the girl.
@fanime1 I know what you mean. I can't believe there can be girls who consider guys like Gaston attractive and nice. He's so ugly, disgusting, mean, bigheaded...in short, the baddie of the movie. But I hate even more people like that idiot with no character who's always following him and kissing his...Anyway, the best guy in this movie is definitely the Beast!!!
B&B is my fave classic disney movie. Simply spectacular, the song tears me up everytime. Belle is my fave "non" princess (cause shes not actually a princess but who cares, her gold dress is the best disney princess gown), Ariel is my fave underwater princess, Pocahontas is my fave tribal princess, Tiana is my fave african-american princess... theres just no denying these animated girls are my role models, when i was young and even now sometimes.
@TomboyCactus101 I'm not quite understanding... how can Ariel be your fav underwater princess when she's the ONLY underwater princess? it's not like there's scores of underwater princesses to choose from. same argument for your fav tribal and african-american princess choices, considering they are the only ones available.
the "Belle is my fave 'non' princess" sentence makes sense because there are more than one non princesses to choose from.
@blckbooty i meant like they are "different" kind of princesses. Not they are many underwater princess or tribal princess. I meant they are my faves cause some of them are unique: Ariel is an underwater princess, Pocahontas is a tribal princess and Belle is not exactly a princess but shes considered one (that is after she marries the beast only then shes a "Princess"). Others like Snow White and Aurora are just typical princesses. Get what i mean? XD
disney was good back in the 90s and now 20 years later disney has gone from the king of animated films by making great movies to making crappy cgi films and live action shit when are they gonna go back to making another hand drawn film i want more hand drawn films i want them to turn more great fairy tales into hand drawn animated films dont get me wrong disneys alright i just want them to make good animated films again i get that animation tastes are changing but i still miss the old animation
Actually, "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Princess and The Frog" have some parallels in their story. Both protagonists are considered "outsiders" and "odd" to those around them. Belle is an outcast b/c she reads and wants more out of her life. Tiana is deemed odd b/c she aspires to own her own restaraunt and rise above her circumstances as an African American woman. Also, both ladies fall in love w/ the initally selfish prince who've been transformed on account of their actions.
I have the New York Film festival version of this movie on LaserDisc - I want to upload it somehow but don't know what to do. I would probably put it on pirate bay or something
It's a shame that Howard Ashman did not live long enough for the premier and that he didn't get to share in it's success after working so hard on it. It's also a shame that he never got to see the broadway musical version because Broadway was the field he and Alan both worked in.
It's also a shame that Walt Disney didn't live to see this movie because he had been on a mission to tackle this story and the mission was finally accomplished.
I am very excited about this Disney's project (The Snow Queen is scheduled to be released in 2013). Because it has some people that worked in other great Disney animations:
Written by Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast, Lion King)
Produced by Don Hahn (Beauty and the Beast, Lion King)
Score composer Alan Menken (Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin)
Btw, The Snow Queen is a fairytale created by the danish Hans Christian Andersen, who is also the creator of The Little Mermaid!
I literally was crying by the end...what a beautiful movie definatly my all time favorite. "Beauty and the Beast" can be watched by any age and still enjoyed. Its beautiful storyline is just the begining of its amazing success.
@xxeverbluexx I personly didn't like the Prince and the Frog. But I will say that the Prince and the Frog is a step in the right direction ^^ Hopefully Disney will see that :/
@xxeverbluexx idk, i might, i went cuz my mom works 4 disney and she worked on it, ar they making a new version? or r u talkin about somethin else cuz i haznt heard anything about that
Computerish animation is souless, it is not the ''art of animation'' (we can see this at the end of the Credits in traditionally animated features of the Renaissance).
I think that 3D animation (like in the Stampede scene in The Lion King, Deep Canvas in Tarzan, ballroom dance scene in Beauty and the Beast etc.) and Computer effects (like in The Transformation scene in Beauty and the Beast etc.) should only help traditional animation.
Walt Disney Pictures' 30th full-length animated feature (which is my all-time favourite movie) will be re-release (this time in 3-D) in 2011. It was originally scheduled for February 2010, but Disney decided to postpone it to coincide with the film's 20th anniversary.
I havent seen princess and the frog yet but all I can say is that I really hope it sparks more traditionally animated movies, technology is great and all.....but.. xD
I don't know why, but watching this I found myself crying at the end. This movie is without a doubt one of the few movies that will withstand the test of time and will stay forever more in the hearts of millions now and forever.
This movie is right. Love CAN heal, and it the healing feels great. I absolutely love this movie, and it shows true love can be found with absolutely anyone. I know that now, and am in love. Disney definately made this movie the best of the 1990's! :D <3
to correct yall, beauty and the beast is gonna be release in 3D on feburary 12, 2010 and 8 month later which means in october 5, 2010, it'll be release on DVD and for the first time on BLU-RAY.
no, it was actually The Black Cauldron, in 1985. i know it sounds ridiculous just because during that time, computers wasnt that well-used, but its true that TBC is the first CGI Disney movie.
beauty and the beast and the little mermaid are my absolute favorite disney movies...
i love all the otehrs though god its so hard to choose between them though. but i think beauty and the beast and the little mermaid are basically my favorite =P second is mulan and aladdin...haha! sorry. just thought i had to say that!
@oopaulorafael I do agree that The Hunchback of Notre Dame is very philosophic. I remember I was little and it used to confuse me a lot though x3 I just really liked the gargoyles haha
For some reason though, Beauty and the Beast has stuck with me ever since i was little o.o
But i guess really all the Disney Movies have wonderful story lines, music, and more! (just what i think) I totally forgot about this video, thanks for commenting or i wouldn't have found it again :3
i love this movie it was my favorite movie ever and i think i was like 2 or 3 when it was in theater i remember watching it in the teater and coming out and singing tale is old as time it is still my favorite movie to this day
i know its still so far away, but good news is you can always buy it on Ebay or Amazon :)...i think thats what my friends are doing for me, since mine got stolen
IF Walt Disney was still alive, he'd be very happy to see the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast on-screen (and on-stage) since he couldn't produce them.s
Where did you get this? I have the DVD from 2002, and My copy has 8 or 9 part 'Making of' documentary, I like this better because it's shorter, but this doesn't talk about the broadway musical
Wow one of Disney's best. It's so depressing to see how much Disney has changed to what it is now. Lifeless and computerized. They should bring back the original Disney animations that were so unexpected by everyone rather than stay with their expected overrated movies that aren't original at all. Hopefully Princess and the Frog will usher that in.
And Rapunzel after that. I think after these past few years of Audiences complaining about the new computerized Disney films has finally shaken Disney into going back to Disney Artistry. I still remember when Eisner swore Disney did it's last Animated Movie and crushed my dream of ever being a Disney Animator :P.
@bewitched1870 Indeed mate! Hopefully Disney will start another Renaissance with Princess and the Frog...
By the way, I prefer traditional animation MUCH MORE than Computer animation. I think that Computer animation should only help drawn animation (like the Stampede scene in Lion King, Deep Canvas in Tarzan, ballroom dance scene in Beauty and the Beast, etc.)
Thanks for uploading this, loved it. This is just an amazing movie. I'm actually a CG animator, but I'm desperate for them to make traditionally animated films like this again! I am only involved in animation at all because of the effect these movies had on me a child. Pixar can make the CG movies, DISNEY should be making these. It's the magic the company was built on.
Do your best to help make Princess and the Frog a commercial success, everyone! :)

Hah! That moustache on Gaston really fit! Too bad they removed it. It would have been much better if he'd had it in the movie.
But then again, he looked a bit like Clayton.

I am so amused that they try to apply logic (they added a pillow for Mrs. Pot to land on) yet a talking pot defies logic.

Magic doesn't always need logic. Physics, however, does. XD

I hate it when they do remakes. Why doing a classic new? It's like photographing a photo Van Gough painted... This is not art, this is money.
TeTRoSeX 2 years ago 6
They're not remaking it they are just making it in 3D

IF Walt Disney was still alive, he'd be very happy to see the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast on-screen (and on-stage) since he couldn't produce them.s
fahmad27 3 years ago 7
Where did you get this? I have the DVD from 2002, and My copy has 8 or 9 part 'Making of' documentary, I like this better because it's shorter, but this doesn't talk about the broadway musical

Wow one of Disney's best. It's so depressing to see how much Disney has changed to what it is now. Lifeless and computerized. They should bring back the original Disney animations that were so unexpected by everyone rather than stay with their expected overrated movies that aren't original at all. Hopefully Princess and the Frog will usher that in.
bewitched1870 3 years ago 35
And Rapunzel after that. I think after these past few years of Audiences complaining about the new computerized Disney films has finally shaken Disney into going back to Disney Artistry. I still remember when Eisner swore Disney did it's last Animated Movie and crushed my dream of ever being a Disney Animator :P.
SP3489 3 years ago 4
Yea. But if Disney returns to its past illustrations and originality then you shall be able to revive you dreams and make it!
bewitched1870 3 years ago
they are in the disney movie the princess and teh frog.. directed by the same guys who amde the little mermiad .. coming out in 2009

@bewitched1870 Indeed mate! Hopefully Disney will start another Renaissance with Princess and the Frog...
By the way, I prefer traditional animation MUCH MORE than Computer animation. I think that Computer animation should only help drawn animation (like the Stampede scene in Lion King, Deep Canvas in Tarzan, ballroom dance scene in Beauty and the Beast, etc.)
oopaulorafael 1 year ago
Thanks for uploading this, loved it. This is just an amazing movie. I'm actually a CG animator, but I'm desperate for them to make traditionally animated films like this again! I am only involved in animation at all because of the effect these movies had on me a child. Pixar can make the CG movies, DISNEY should be making these. It's the magic the company was built on.
Do your best to help make Princess and the Frog a commercial success, everyone! :)
