  • I completely agree. Drake is a great example of a young rapper bringing back lyricism. Real shit, if you check out this one emcee named Logic, he has the same point of view about hip hop. He is a PERFECT example of what you are talking about. He uses lyricism to personify issues he has experience with that fans can also relate to, and he intricately connects himself to a contrast of Frank Sinatra giving him his alter ego as a YOUNG SINATRA

  • 1:58 LMAO

  • I absolutely love watching your videos, keep it up, keep it real!

  • lmao, "the sub-prime mortgage of hip-hop", great anology

  • is kanye considered lyrical? i mean hes good and all but..

  • @Mystikal22693 On a good day, he's pretty lyrical. But most of the time, I'd say, no.

  • @Mystikal22693 colledge dropout n late registration he was lyrical he seemed to stop caring about what he was saying well before graduation.

  • @Mystikal22693 I'm confused too. I thought general consensus is that Kanye is pretty neglectful of having an engaging delivery even if he's conscious.

  • @Amitai45 Kanye has great delivery don't get me wrong

  • How come 93.7%of the "responders"don't spell?

  • his he dropping words on immortal saying u don't got to be political knowledge dropping artist..if that the case he should know not everyone raps for money alone

  • medical genitals LMAO

  • Who the fuck is wacka flaca whatever, who the fuck is he?????

  • @PRECIOSADESIREE he's awful so it really doesn't matter haha

  • @PRECIOSADESIREE a rapper...that every one say i look like -_-

  • Check out the track on my page # 1 in the game

  • He's a geek though that wouldn't go to flockas neighborhood ..

  • @infamousmaxpayne

1)He didn't diss Flocka-did you watch the video, or just comment?

2)What does him "going to Flocka's neighborhood" have to do with anything?

  • This video should be shared so everyone can see it

  • I would love to hear a statement from all these stupid nonsense-"rap artists". I think that would be really funny. :D

  • Thank you, for this. lol

  • Dead in the middle of Little Italy, little did we know that we riddled some middle man who didn't do diddly

  • @BrandNDA PUN!

  • @BrandNDA a stick stickeley splinter you up prickelee? sicker than shocks rockin you down boogie infinity!

  • @weepulization oh snap!

  • Seriously take @slyoctober 's advice & rename this video to "Medical Genitals." hahaha

  • I'll post the Japanese Version Lyrics of this script if anybody that's Japanese wants it.

  • i love that the book moves on the desk after every cut.

  • lil wayne has no lyrics

  • @BlazinSkull209 Thats not true.

  • @coolnesss16 ahhh i see your a lil wayne fan please tell me how my statement is not true

  • @BlazinSkull209 Well first let me say, there are different types of ''lyrical'' Rappers to me. There are those who are story tellers. There's also rappers with a socially conscious message. Wayne is not that type. He's lyricism is more in the technical aspects like ,flow, delivery, metaphors, similes and multi syllables ect. He may not hit you emotionally or drop knowledge i don't already know but i don't think a rapper has to, to be considered ''Lyrical''

  • @coolnesss16 looool ooook whatever let me sum up everything you just said "lil wayne is an industry boy"

  • @BlazinSkull209 If you say so. He's still lyrical to me. And you haven't put up much of and argument to why he's not so were not really getting anywhere here. Music is subjective anyway, meaning it's all depends on your personal taste, when it comes to how good an artist is.

  • @BlazinSkull209 Lil Wayne has lyrics when he can be arsed to care. Which is very infrequently. I DEFINITELY think he needs to cut that shit out about calling himself 'the greatest rapper of all time,' because I don't exactly see him beating out dudes like Jay-Z or RZA for vocal dexterity.

  • @BlazinSkull209 yeah right now but not back in his prime... you and the other 22 dumbasses go back and do your homework

  • @BlazinSkull209 step aside wit the other people who are waiting for someone to give a shit n also fuk u fuk u fuk u fuk u fuk u fuk u also fuk u "oh" did i mension fuk u hata

  • @tpainboy1 i see your Intellegance level is low becuase 1) you can't spell and 2) your volcabulary is quite rubbish

  • @BlazinSkull209 Just because someone can't spell or their vocabulary is rubbish doesn't always mean their intelligence level is low. It simply means the education system is crap. And btw, it's spelled intelligence...

  • Insightful!

  • You are extremely cute and informative in what you are passionate about.

  • ill doc shitted on waka flocka

  • Lil Wayne didnt not turn into or even try to be a lyricist.

  • Fantastic! The bit about the "my hypnotical folicles..."!!

  • I think the deal is that lyrical mcs sell albums and non-lyrical ones sell...ringtones. Hence they make more money in the long-term.

  • if you enjoy real underground music click on our user name and like our facebook page /oppositepolar Poetry/Rhythm/Life Underrated please only Real people like if you liked watching this video

  • @xxxamydollxxx

He means good or meaningful lyrics.

  • "medical genitals"........... SUBSCRIBED...LOL

  • like political rap/hip hop listen to lowkey

  • 1:56 had me dying lmaoooo

  • okay.... off topic.... but yu MURDERED THAT RHYME lmao dat was tuff. and the funny thing is i use 2 rap like that

    -40 cal jc wolf

  • lol lol that was dope! It is so funny because it is so true!-"theoretical medical genitles" ha-hilarious! I wish these artists would get back to quality and substance rather than this wack-Hotbooty-garbage stuff they keep dishing out.

  • That DVD case/book keeps moving forward with every cut....was there a significance to that?

  • @rs4ty44rth

holy fuck that kinda blew my mind becasue i didnt notice it until you pointed it out

  • TRUE, word up..knowledge! > off topic, the song 'broken language' -smooth da hustler is soooo dope lyricly..just thought about it

  • The sub prime mortgage of Hip hop!!!! Nuff said It's a wrap LOL

  • killer last words... I cant wait till wocka has to move back in with his mum.

  • True stuff man, I like how u did this without bashing some of the artists that are just in it for the money. Alot of up and coming artists are the same way. Lyricism is hip-hop, I don't know what to call the music now

  • Anybody else noticed that the book keeps moving?

  • Magical appearing book at 0:07?

  • lol - Jay, you are nothing short of genius. Just love the well done, but hate-free, analysis (I feel you on the "ice box" comment ;)

  • Here's looking at you Soulja Boy..... oh wait. You have to at least carry a tune to rap too....

  • kanye fanboys...

    they remind me of macfags...

  • I really, really hate talking shit about anyones music. but the fact that anyone listens to waka flocka totally terrifies me.

  • What's with the moving book in the background? Anyone else see that?

  • I'm not gonna lie, but its like you've read my mind. I'm 15, and I personally do not like Waka Flocka, and the reason is, from what he said, he doesn't have lyrics. Not that lyrics is the MOST important, but it's quite important, even with some the catchiest songs too. I do believe that lyrics do play apart of gaining fame in mainstream, because you can't just have a great beat, and have little lyrics. Lyrics in mainstream are the sweet icing and cherry on top of the cake.

  • Whoo, Lyricism is what brings me back for more. It's who I won't miss a drop from Quannum, Atmosphere, Talib Kwali, Buck 65 and pretty much every one of the underground cats coming up through battles in basement clubs. Lyricism is Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop is Lyricism.

  • damn, you are fucking totally straight on point with the knowledge yhat you drop. amazing.

  • This video is so well articulated it hits the last nail on the head of the coffin top!

  • "My hypnotical folicles umbrilical miracles metaphysical theoretical medical genitals."

I almost shit myself laughing when i heard that lol.

  • @stupidkid508 Same here! God, that was funny like a pants factory on fire.

  • Kanye West doesn't have lyrics. All he has is a fucking ego that he pukes up on paper and reads to a beat that someone else made.

  • @titeguy3 biiiiiiiiiiiiig opinion

  • @titeguy3 Stop saying wrong things

  • @titeguy3 I personally think Kanye West has the ocassional good lyric i.e. metaphor and his delivery isn't that bad. He has a huge ego but so does almost every rapper out there. Most raps are about the "self" and Kanye just seems to be unashamed about it. He's also not bad at freestyling, granted I don't think he's great but he's not bad in fact I can leave Kanye at the lower mid section of good.

  • @titeguy3

College Dropout and Late Registration do have lyrics.

  • I love your videos because you speak the truth, but Lil Wayne? I'm sorry but he does not have bars or at least strong ones a that.

  • *cough* soulja boy *cough*

  • I was entranced by the moving book... and the idea of theoretical medical genitals.

  • "Niggas scream, critics scream, Critics boo, and niggas boo

but remember that being a conscious rapper is a GIMMICK too

dont let women and childran dictate your IMAGE dude"

Truest words ever spoken. I think under it all wocka had a point, but he couldn't articulate himself well enough. He is a horrible rapper tho, to say the least. He puts absolutely 0 effort when it comes to his raps. People say Lil wayne is bad, but id have to disagree. He might be overrated but he's far from bad.

  • theoretical genitals.

    word life.

  • Love the show, help me I want to start my own show!

  • FLOCKA !!! please check out my music .. i sound nuthin like waka flocka

  • -great point

-POPULARIZED hip hop is lacking alot of "skillz" regarding content choreography, integrity, morals, political awareness, ummm metaphors haha but

-you did enlighten me to the statistics and existence of lyricism!!! (cuz i was loosing hope...hip-hope) :-/

  • Is it just me who's amused at watching the book shift around on the desk between cuts?

  • @haineko1101 you're probably the only one who even noticed it. lol I didn't see that until I read your comment.

Man...Waka won't survive past 2 years...I may be stretching that seeing as no body talks about him anymore already. lol

  • The DUDE IS GREAT!!!

  • Pure and true, beginning to end. Thanks for taking the time to drop a truth-bomb on some foolishness!

  • mangen esa melma de musica

  • "The subprime mortgage of hip hop." - skills

  • REAL talk!

  • Thank you sir!!, ive been stressing this for the longest!!!

  • HAHAHAH theoretical medical genitals..

  • I hope you rhyme as well as talking all this realness...big up to you for taking time to drop truth

  • thanks.

  • like 20 seconds in and i had already favorited this

nice work, we miss you jay

  • this was exactly what i always try to explain to people...i have almost abandoned the "new school" hip hip and rap because there is almost no meaning to the songs anymore...im only 16 but i would still rather hear the underground white rappers such as atmosphere, aesop rock, and mostly eyedea and abilities rather than the rappers of today.

  • @Raskolnikhov He IS black, what are you talking about?

  • @Raskolnikhov

He IS Black, you fucking moron!

  • what the heck is that moving white box??

  • "My Hypnotical Follicles Umbilical Miracle Metaphysical Theoretical Medical Genitals" WOW! LMAO! HAHAHA!

  • @illmoocow that sounds like canibus's lyrics.... among others.

  • @illmoocow Reminded me of big pun

  • @illmoocow CANIBUS LMAO

  • i never heard of Wacka Flacka...

  • @robstar1a I thought he was using a fake name for a second there and look at that....real rapper. hmph.

  • @robstar1a lucky you

  • 100% accurate.

  • MiMS-This Is Why I'm Hot---One hit wonder, never heard from him again. Learn Wacka Flacka Learn.

  • @magnakid

    I hate that stupid song.

  • you are one ill doctrine

  • Rename this video "Medical Genitals" immediately!

  • @slyoctober No homo.

  • @slyoctober

    Love it.

  • Ever since Kitty"s rising popularity, Jay has come to resent Kitty's strong screen presence and growing fan base and ... no more Kitty.

  • the doc ain't gotta say it because I will, Waka Flocka Flame is a genuine DUMBASS. =]

  • I love this video. Thank you for giving me some hope that people are getting the message.

  • pretty much rap was bought along time ago. oh you didnt get that memo.

  • So what's your take on the lyrics vs flow comments made by Royce da 5'9"? He's certainly lyrical, and he's no young 'un.

  • yo, this shit was great... i can't front, u've made a fan out of me

  • This is a great vid making very pertinent points

  • i like ure vids but how on earth can u say Wayne is lyrical ????? Wayne is really bad infact he was better before he went big i dnt get it u seem to share my view on rap but ure claims on wayne are just pure Herracy

  • @skipca Please dont shoot me down was a very lyrical song. He my not show it alot but he can hold his own with alot of rappers when it comes to lyrics

  • @skipca lyrical =/= intelligent content necessarily. i think he's more referring to wayne's multisyllabic lines as well as his metaphors and similes.

  • Agree or not, I love listening to this guy.

  • love the cd moving on the shelf in the background... nuff said.

  • this video is kinda funny but you are completely wrong. Going more lyrical winds up in LESS record sales not more. lil wayne was never lyrical and either was kanye west- im assuming by lyrical you mean that their songs actually rap about something meaningful?

All Kayne and Wayne do are wordplays after wordplays- in my opinion they both suck ass and are perfect examples of how if you become LESS lyrical you can sell more bc the avg listener has a 10 second or less intention span

  • @JMS13579 lyrical = wordplay dude.

  • In Wacka's defense he never said being lyrical was holding him back, he was saying that these up and coming so called lryical rappers are broke

  • "The Super Scientifical Mega Multi-Syllable Rhyming Specter Percee P Imitator MC"

    Woah!!

  • LOL.....Love u J!!!

  • Props for taking time to do this. I'm afraid it won't sink in though. If people don't get the concept of lyrics, or don't recognize what it is about people like Jay-Z and Eminem that's hot or why people went gaga over Lil Wayne the last few years... then they're not going to get it even after having it explained to them. It's like trying to show a blind person the Mona Lisa. All the history and importance of DaVinci is meaningless if they can't see it. Speak the truth anyway though.

  • I agree, except the Wayne thing. He did not get more lyrical, if anything he dumbed down. Most of his best songs were wrote by ghost writers. Wayne is a sellout label puppet. The better emcees are underground such as Tech N9ne, Immortal Technique, Slaughterhouse Ras Kass, and so on. Its sad to turn on MTV or the radio and listen to that bullshit they claim is Hip-Hop, when its not..

  • how is lil wayne a label puppet? he owns his own record label. lol and all those rappers u named are amazing rappers but rappers record wat they like to record. its not lil waynes fault tht a lot of people like wat he likes

  • @TheNotoriousROC Wayne is a puppet because he is controlled by the business men and corporate world, he is NOT real. And rappers don't record what they like to record, major artists record mostly what they are told to record. He is a sellout for fame and money.

  • @Dynamite0023 So... if Wayne is controlled by suits, how do you explain No Ceilings? Just saying, I'm pretty sure that a mixtape (a whole flood of them, really) given away for free with just other people's beats on them is a suit's wet dream.

  • @Dynamite0023 by that standard so is Eminem

  • LOOOL. My hypnotical follicles umbilical miracle?! HAAHHAHA. Just wish you had dropped some rhymes for an example of the political MC, you always had skills B.

    One,

    - Brother Chimaobi

  • Medical Genitals. I wish I had them

  • "....medical genitals" classic!

  • i like what you say ---> subscribe

  • Hahahahah. I love it.

  • Word.

  • man this some truth!!!

  • Haha Percee P bit cracks me up :)

You rhyme better then all of these commercial "Lyricists"

  • excellent. way to break it down.

  • wigger is a stereotype like black people only drink koolaid .that keeps rascism.

  • i mean the word wigger

  • coincidentally, I was just listening to a new song from the new Statik Selektah's album by Styples P and Talib kweli titled "the thrill is gone"

jay, you should check it out. that song should have been the background for this video. how fitting.

the thrill is indeed gone. hiphop is dead. no arguin fellas, let's just leave it at that.

    wayne lyrical?

    that's an oxymoron.

  • What do you call MF Doom, Edan, Mr. Lif, J-Live, Jay-Z, Blackalicious, Antipop Consortium, Ghostface Killah, Dilated Peoples, Mos Def, Kanye West, The Roots (still), Aceyalone, Cunninlynguists, ect ect. What are they, if not hip-hop?

  • you're preaching to the choir, Q-tip's last single is the video I uploaded on my page, among other videos.

  • I'm just saying, hip-hop isn't dead.

  • with the exception of Jay and Kanye (arguably) the rest are not the face of hiphop, thus validating the claim "hiphop is dead". the face of hiphop today are lil wayne, soldja boy, gucci mane and the likes. go figure. the last great emcee served as the face of hiphop (to a larger and global audience) and dominated the charts was Eminem. in it's golden age hiphop was more diverse and had room for everyone.

  • If you're talking about mainstream, then I suppose so lol. Doom, Raekwon and Lupe are all semi-mainstream though, gotta count for something. Hopefully Eminem brings some classic back into the mainstream with his next one, and we still are waiting for Dre's album.

  • @iluvfReSH THANK YOU

  • @iluvfReSH The Culture sure isn't. Rap is making it live. While the music fades on deaf ears!

  • soooooooo true lil wayne has to have someone writing his shit hahahaha

  • So I just noticed something in this video... but I don't want to say it cause I don't want to ruin it for others... I wonder if your other vids are like this, too...

  • Was it the book?

  • That and the door... it wouldn't surprise me if others are like this cause it was at least my tenth time watching the video when I first saw it

  • the thing is that lupe really doesnt court the mainstream with his image or sound. the list that jay showed in this video was fully composed of people who were talented AND had appeal to a wide range of folk. but yeah you could probably blame the consumers to an extent as well...

  • yo J- put the percee p immitator on a full track- that shit is hilarious!

  • only person i can think of that can get away with the medical genitals style was big pun. guys who try that style ussualy do taper off when words stop making sense even though they rhyme

  • I like the fact that "medical genitals" is now a musical sub-genre

  • i love the way the book in he background crept slowly to the right as the vid progressed

  • WORD! 10 points to you, my nigga

  • I wish I had theoretical medical genitals..

  • this is awesome man. you're a badass! :D

  • GOOD SHIT!!!!

  • hypnotical,folicals,umbelical,miracle,metaphysical,theoretical,medical,genitals!! haha

  • Okay the sub prime mortgage and Mother's basement analogy wins!
