  • I am defiantly in that 98%

  • I used to carry the same knife. Till it rusted out, it was a great knife. I don't think they sell them at walmart anymore but my cousin said he can get me a military grade version of it for a good deal.

  • i guess im in that 2%

  • its funny. lol i work with the same throwing knives. also their is ways to throw those knives without spining them. granted it take time to get used to. hit me up sometime man. my names Andrew. :) i throw knives, stars/ shuriken, spikes, and hatchets.

  • Not gonna lie, I thought you were going to be talking about The Force, lol.

Very interesting things to think of, and lot of people should if they are going to carry weapons with them.

Question: Isn't it illegal to carry quick draw knives, like the one you have, or is that a state to state thing?

  • you should check out the sog flash 2 they are leagle in cali there about 40 bucks us

  • i understand my dad was in the bosnian war and my parents are bosnian and i had t break someones nose with a giant stick

  • I have a big fuckin gun in my house and no worries.

  • Great video. Honestly, this may be my favorite of what you've put up. Respect.

  • What was the name of that book again? It seems like it would be very interesting

  • @reuellacy The title of the book is 'On Killing'

  • @shaykai Hey man have been looking at other vids that tell you how to throw knives and urs are the best so far. Any chance you'll film one that teaches to throw without spin???

    Namaste.

  • @OnBrokenDreams Nope sorry, I don't really know how to throw without spin. Hehe.

  • I would def consider myself a sheepdog I am one who will step in no questions asked. I carry atleast one knife on me at all times and my philosophy is if I need to pull a weapon I had better be willing to use it and deal with the consequences. I have never had to pull a knife. But one of my knives has blood on the blade. I hit a cat on my way home from work one night and the cat was not dead so I slit it's throat with my knife. It was hard but I could do it.

  • thebullets are faster then a knife and more likely to be lethal. With that said I rather get shot then slashed or stabed.

  • im a black belt in shotokan and i carry a pocket knife and a 1911.45 i dont go around using my gun as a scare tactic. it is a weapon of self defense. shaykai's right without proper training and mental fortitude my gun would be a paper weight. you cant just call yourself a hardass and it magically be true. you must train and be prepared. i know im not the baddest mofo on earth, not by a long shot, but there are some bad people in this world and i KNOW i would KILL or DIE to protect those i love.

  • My weapons are my legs and arms.

  • Im glad you put this video up. It raises some pretty interesting questions about how we think and what limits we have.

I deffinantly need to have a read of the book.

  • Hey,

    I really loved this video!

(watched it after seeing your throwing vids also great)

I met someone recently who also considered himself a sheepdog which really made me interested striking up a conversation with him. Only to find out he didn't believe anyone should be killed for any reason, and had no training in martial arts. nor carries any type of weapon whatsoever as they are "evil"

Now i think twice when someone calls them self a sheepdog, but i still wish there were more ;(

    Stay Safe!

  • Well, me and my friends were at the public park by our houses, and we were sitting there, and a black man rolled up,im 17 by the way, and he just started hitting the girl with us and i was like wow dude wtf and he turned to me and busted out a set of brass knuckles and i got them away from him and cracked him in the head, and he went to the hospital, but it never messed with me i would do it again if someone attacked me soooo idk maybe just my mindset btw ya sweet video man.

  • Great job on the video. maybe you should make one, or reword this one to tell people that physical confrontations should be more of a last resort. talking or even running away may be a better option than fighting.

  • that is a really good book

  • great video i have had a realization like you have had here, i realised when i carried my knife(s) for self defense i didnt think i could use it to defend my/ someone elses life but i did some searching i now carry a 4in Coldsteel Ti Lite a ESP21in baton and a mk3 can of FOXLABS 5.3 i feel that i wouldnt be able to pull a knife even if my life depended on it but i have no problem pulling my baton or pepper spray and using it great video and im gonna go get that book and check it out

  • continuing from last comment, i've become so scared of her or me being hurt, i collect just about anything i could use for protection, i even keep my nails grown long incase i dont have a weapon. i wouldnt feel remorse for killing in the right situation cuz a dead-man cant harm anyone, and i never want to have to live in fear again. i think those that harm and create fear for no justified reason shouldnt exist, but that's a matter of belief

  • continuing from last comment. so, i'm trying to talk them into leaving, they keep getting closer. i pulled 2 small knives i started carrying from last time i got hurt. but i'm literally frozen stiff from the cold winter. (my weakness, know ur strengths and weaknesses) so i got knocked out, she gets hurt. next time, i think i should just kill cuz i never want to see her or myself hurt again. i've been collecting all types of weapons, i now usually carry a bigger sheaf-ed dagger for protection

  • great video, really helped. great to hear so many kind protectors out there. i live in a bad city, i'm a good person and keep to myself, but i have been hurt several times for no real reason. the last one, is what changed me. about 5 guys mess with my best friend, i love her alot, she's practically just a little girl. but she scares them off, they come back, 2 with bats. she gets a golf club, they run and get an older guy (cowards) i wanted to run, but i didnt want to leave her there.

  • right on mate. right on.

  • Your attitude towards knives is very refreshing in this day and age. I see and hear alot of people that I know trying to act hard and macho by talking about how "cool" knives and guns are, when its obvious that if the time came, they could never use them. Good video mate, keep up the good work.

  • what is the book called?

  • I do have a Conceal and Carry License and yes.. I do carry... I mostly carry a small assisted blade knife that I primarily use as a utility knife.. Which I use Daily..

Sometimes I think I am stupid for my mind set.. Most of the fights I have been in.. werent mine.. I was the idiot breaking them up.. reguardless of the risk to myself.. Its just engrained in me.. If need be.. Yes.. I would use whatever weapon I had if my life or another's was threatened.. I have not yet had to other than...

  • the deal with the KA-Bar is that it was designed to like puncture internal organs and to kill. while the M-16 CRKT is more of a tool rather then a weapon. just an opinion of mine.

  • I must thank you, you have provided me with much insight. I think many people can learn from this. you have my gratitude.

  • Thanks for the answer.

  • Can I ask a question?:

    Isn't carrying knifes around illegal?

Another thing I understand that this like for self deffence but helping people choose knifes isn't realy a good idea cause in England lot's of minors are arrested for carrying and using knifes inapropietly to the extent where they kill people. Don't get me wrong I think everyone should carry a weapon for self defence as long as it IS for self defence

  • @immortalchild16 It's not illegal to carry a knife in the united states as long as it is a folding blade. You can also carry a fixed blade as well, but you have to keep that exposed (meaning no concealed in your pocket) for that to be legal.

  • Comment removed

  • @shaykai

Some states do not allow you to carry around a fixed blade in a public setting. Sure, go for it if you're camping, but that's about it. In Texas, you also aren't allowed to carry a folding knife with a blade longer than 5.5 inches. I keep a .45 loaded at my house for self defense and one knife on my person whenever I go out. Do I think i can use it? If it's my life on the line, then maybe, but i prefer diplomacy. If it's to save another person, then yes, I will probably use one.

  • @shaykai

Continuing on from where i left off.

I do consider myself a sheepdog. Your best option in a home defense situation is to notify authorities first. Don't try to take matters into your own hands. I'm working on obtaining my CHL (concealed handgun license) and i pray that I never have to use it..

  • @shaykai Finally someone else who knows the truth on the law.

  • @shaykai In the U.S. if the blade is over 6 inches its illegal (or at least in my state) and your right a pocket knife is legal. Btw i saw your other vid on posers who think their bad ass for carrying a knife. Im a outdoorsy teen and i use my knife for cutting up fish, skinning animals, cutting rope, etc (everyday purposes) but i wouldnt hesitate to use a blade in a fight where i feel threatened for my life. i really like knives and even want to learn how to forge knifes and tomahawks for fun

  • @64notorious What state do you live in? I find that the 'knife blade length myth' is pretty common here in California where there is actually no law about the length of the blade. You could have a freaking sword in your pocket as long as it folded in two. I personally wouldn't mind trading a blade length law if we could carry a straight blade concealed. I think straight blades are a lot better, especially for utilitarian tasks like you mentioned.

  • @shaykai Well i live in Florida and infact im not 100% sure if im correct, just that a cop once said that to my dad because he was using his 5 1/2 "alligator killing" knife. Anyways, straight blades to me just seem sturdier and more solid. And about the no spin throwing techniques, i learned one a while back reading a book called "combat knife throwing". look Ralph THorn up on youtube and he has a good tutorial on the no spin throw

  • @immortalchild16 I believe it is illegal ifff the blade is over 3 and 1/2 inches, buuuut u might want to check and make sure :) hope it helps

  • @immortalchild16 dude you can carry a gun around......

  • @SmellsLikePork09 Right but you need a license or something don't you?

  • maybe taking the golf cart and running over it again straight under the tire...but still, it would make me feel sad.

  • On the topic of the "sheep dog" mentailty, I think that people sometimes consider themselves as such, but once presented with the situation just freeze up, or are really just putting up that persona to seem tougher.

THat's also very dangerous if you put yourself in that position and don't know how to back it up.

  • I agree 100%, you don't know how you will react to a situation until you are presented with it. That being said, if you can train for such things before you find yourself in a dangerous situation then you are much more likely to perform in the way you want to instead of freezing up.

  • @shaykai like you said. building the mental constitution for something as BIG as that.people tend to say they can do something but then freeze up when the situation is presented. training in the martial arts will give you the ability to react, but i would say that 90% of it is more mental than it is being physically able to do something. That is, in my mind, what training is for. training your self mentally, as well as physically to be able to react to any given situation. and physical ....

  • @shaykai are definitely more of a last resort than most people would think.

  • i think the point you make is absolutely fantastic. a lot of people do think that they could easily kill someone or cause lots of harm to another human if they need to, but when that situation occurs, you wouldnt know what to do

  • with a squrell just break the neck quick and painless

  • But his eye was hanging out ryantg1.... HIS EYE!!!!

  • yeah that would be pritty bad to look at

  • Just gotta say, that's the first time on Youtube I didn't see someone say something like "Oh yeah, who cares? it's just a squirrel get over it. Only an eye." or something along those lines.

  • yeah i guess

  • @shaykai

    LOL

  • I agree completely with what you said. I have that same razor problem. I simply could not use one to kill anyone. My dad has had to use things like the arm break sort of things in the past and has seen dead bodies (he is in the police) but they still are not natural things and if you don't care then there would have to be something badly wrong with your mind. I am going to buy that book for sure. great video.

  • good job dude i really enjoyed your discussion and i agree on many of your points

  • Very true what you saied there. Made me think if i could harm someone with a knife or sword 8i practice both).

I came to the conclusion that i wouldn't use anything but a stick in selfdefence.

Or my sword to scare the hell out of them^^

  • Excellent video, and a nice balanced look on the subject. A friend of mine was charged from across the street by a homeless person (whom he later found out had 8 separate drugs in his system at the time). My friend gets out of his car and this guy charges him, with the apparent goal of beating the crap out of him. My friend tried to dodge around his car and avoid him, but when that failed, he was forced to arm-bar him against the hood of his car. He was very emotionally disturbed by the incident.

  • bokens can fight a bat so it is a vary good weapon

  • Well done Ben!

We have all watched too many movies and played a lot of violent games and I feel it has desensitised us to the concept of violence. I really believe as humans we wish to do no harm, however all have within us the drive to protect ourselves and loved ones.

  • The real truth of it all is that just about any of these situations for us can be avoided (unless u live in Poland like our friend a few post down!). I do believe if you carry a weapon you are more likely to find yourself in a situation to use it.

I started out like most of you boys! We all had our fights when we were young but once you take your ego out of it, you can defuse just about any situation without aggression. Maybe thats a weapon we all should spend some time sharpening.

  • @2x4tube Theoretically it works experimentally, well good luck

  • @2x4tube I would have to agree, at least partially. We all live in civilized society, or so we like to tell ourselves. There will always be a situation where we may not be able to talk our way out of, escape, or escape without needing to worry if the threat may follow us home. It is the responsibility of each individual to consider these threats, and maintain a means to defuse or pacify them in any capacity, whether it be through diplomacy or use of force.

  • @2x4tube Pff, pacifist...

  • @2x4tube Well, i have to disagree with you on that one... I don't know how old you are, but in the past decade, schools have been shot up left and right by kids w/ so called mental problems all over the U.S... Even recently my school and the other schools in my city were under threat of an on campus shooting that was luckily found to be some stupid rumor. It even made it to the news... The horrible thing about it is that innocent people who don't have an ego die, I say train for the occasion

  • @juubi0001 Well, By all means train. Considering your post about schools and your uploads, I’m almost sure I am older than you (I mean no disrespect) . I feel you miss my point. I train. In my years I learnt a calmness and I feel, a better way of handling a situation. Gunmen in a school is very different.

One of the wisest lessons I have learnt is that I am allowed to make mistakes. Another way of putting it is that I allowed myself to constantly learn and grow.

  • I did have an opinion such as yours at probably the same age. As you grow, your opinions grow and evolve. The real test is what direction you choose.

Thank you for your response. I needed a while to think about what you said before I replyed.

  • Comment removed

  • I understand what you are saying, but i personally have no problem using whatever force is necessary to stop the incomming threat, armed or unarmed ( assailant,me or both - doesnt matter ).

If you accidentally kill someone in a fight they start, then thats tough shit for them, every fight is life threatening, so treat it that way.

I also if i was to carry a weapon, would carry something blunt like a kubotan, to maximise pain and damage, with less chance of life threatening injuries, easily carried

  • lol haha il used to kill birds with air rifles as a kid now im training my body physically to get into the military. i think im one of the 2%

  • So in States is safe to walk around Your neighborhood ??? I've newer been in USA , i'm from shit-hole named POLAND , it's in center of Europe, this is country where every one is hostile and potential enemy , don't recomend for Vacation but there are worse places like Russia, but that doesn't matter .

You have to be all time alert to avoid any dangerous situation , because ENEMY won't hesitate to beat you to death with bear hands , that's how thing goes,in my country it's a little bit complicated

  • good video man. Thanks for sharing that

  • u shudda stepped on the squirel

  • Cool Ben, very cool.

  • this is my ahhh kbar knife, my dad gave it to me lol

  • I have heard that the majority of knife deaths from fights are caused by gashes rather than punctures. It said something else like 3 major cuts and over is likely to be lethal.

  • Very interesting video.

I can understand your reluctance to post this, but I'm glad you did.

Your 2%-98% statistic really interested me.

  • okay..........ben right? you can get help! theres still hope, dont listen to the voices...........nah just kidden interesting vid.

  • if it goes easier than you thought.

I also train Eskrima, and I think you're making reasonable decisions about what to carry, and it's certainly worthwhile to think about these topics. But it may also be that such consideration may be what actually prevents you from responding appropriately in a stress situation. That's why training is so important, and why it's great to see that you train in a realistic MA relevant to the tools you intend to use.

  • But until then, I was so focussed on being in the fight that "weapons and tactics" went straight out the window.

Third, and again this is from personal experience, if you are in a fight, and you do remember to get the knife out .... it goes in really really easily. You may not even feel that it has penetrated soft tissue until you back off and see the blood flow. I guess my point here is that if you carry a knife, and you think you might actually pull it out in a fight, don't be surprised ...

  • Second, the thing I hope you never have to learn is that the adrenal dump you will get from any confrontation is going to give you tunnel vision. You will hyper focus on your attacker, and you may even totally forget that you have a knife in your pocket. This has happened to me in a 2 on 1 fight, I was punching and kicking but didn't even remeber the knife in my pocket until I fought free of them and then one of them grabbed a stick.

  • A couple of points: that CRKT you carry is a nice knife. With the combo edge, you can rest assured that it will make a ragged, deep cut with very little effort, leaving a wound that is much harder to close than a slit from a razor. The knife you are willing to use is actually more deadly than the knife you are not. Furthermore, the law will make very little distinction between the two (and might even go easier on you for the razor blade than for the "tactical folder."

  • Hey Ben I love the vid and the CRKT. I also like the Karambit knives but I don't know if I would be able to use it (too much blood spatter)

  • Bruce Lee Movies growing up or what? Love the weapons.

    Cheers dude

  • im in year 6 and hav already had bout 7 fights(im a badass lad)

  • I agree with your video Fully. I believe that if i EVER had to defend myself from an attacker that if i did ANYTHING that made my attacker show any signs of hurt or trauma i would feel extremely disgusted with myself. I've tried to practice my empty hand speed as much as possible so that i can end any confrontation with a simple counter so that no emotional or mental damage got in the way of my goal to protect. I have NEVER gotten into a fight, yet i have stopped a few by simply acting... scary.

  • Dude you look way better with your hair down, not a mohawk!

  • you really hit some good points in this vid. I'm going to check out that book. I also believe that the reason that you don't like to you the razor is because if you really did have to use it, it would make the person bleed more. It's the same way with me; actually looking at a gaping, bleeding wound made by me would be way worse that just a stab. It's like you can watch their life drain out of them, and i prefer not to see that.

  • Well, i belive people use knifes not to hurt but to re-assure them that they are safe for instance someone wants to rob them they can show their knife which should scare the robber.

A while ago i was robbed for some ciggerattes and the kid said "i have a knife" and that scared me so i handed over the cigerrattes, he didn't prove he had a knife but hearing the words are scary even though im sure he had no intent on hurting me but i did what he asked.

I belive a knife is a tool nothing more.

  • Hey Ben, I think you missed a pretty important thing in your video, and that's jail time. If you stab someone (even if you are protecting another person) and they die, chances are you are going to jail. It maybe for a short time, it maybe for a very long time; either way you've ended a life and ruined your own.

I also wanted to comment on people saying killing for a greater good is ok. Does that mean dying for the greater good is ok? Who's greater good? Society's greater good? Is it real?

  • You are definitely right Sini, you make a great point. Anytime there is a fight there is a good chance the cops show up, especially if lethal force is used. In one of the martial arts I take they teach knife fighting, and they say to attack the limbs as much as possible. This is because they are closer than the body is, and also because they aren't as lethal as a cut to the throat would be. I could go on for hours about this haha. I appreciate your comment!

  • why are throwing knives not a good weapon? I am thinking about carrying them with me for self defense. I think they would be effective when the enemy is about to draw their firearm. They are silent but of course they would have to be in such a position on your belt that you could get to it and throw it in under a second, not sure if that is even possible.

  • Ok, no need to answer my question, I realize why it's not a good idea. you miss and the enemy picks up the knife and now they have a knife.

  • Haha you are correct :)

  • i'm not a badass, or anything, and it would depend on what was going on, i would not feel bad about killing someone who was trying to kill me, or someone i love, well, i can say i dont think it would bother me, cuz i dont kill people or anything, i just mean if some turd run up on me, and stabs me, or shoots me and i dont die, i'm def gonna try killing him, when mad i dont feel anything anyways, if i'm still able to move, i'm jacking someone up.

  • dude nobody should fuck with been cuz he got enough weapons for a small army in his crib, haha nice vid ben

  • Ben, Try a cold steel 4'' Ti-Lite with a zytel handle great EDC(every day carry) and Tactical Knife. You can pick one up for less than fifty bucks. Google It!

    Nick

  • Hey,

I'm sure you've been asked this. I know a few people who carry guns for self defense. Are you able to carry a gun in CA? And if not, would you if it were legal?

Good job with the vids. Sorry if this is something you've mentioned already.

  • Hey Ben. Im intrested in becoming a CIA Agent ( spy, info collecter). Im only 15 right now and my life is kind of in a mess. If i want to become a CIA agent do i need to know any kinds of martial arts, or any classes that would help me gain experience and knowledge in combat ?

Currently im not doing very well in school, but im trying to turn my life around while im still young.

Sorry about the youtube name ( my cousin made it =.= )

Thanks if you read this =]

  • I read a long time ago that the best skill you can acquire if you want to be in the CIA is a foreign language. I would recommend learning mandarin chinese as I predict china will probably be one of the majory super powers for the next 10-20 years. Arabic or Russian would also be another good language to learn. Martial arts would be a good skill to have as well, but not nearly as important as the language. You can train someone to kill in 6 months, u can't teach someone chinese in 6 months.

  • Thanks for the advice Ben =]

Well i hope i get accepted xD

Thanks again..please make more videos about martial arts and self defense, im sure it will help alot of people just like me.

  • You should also keep a clean record. You should also reconsider.

  • Im a veteran of the Iraq invasion in 2003.

I served as a sniper and later worked as a military intelligence analyst where I held a Secret level security clearance.

Now that Im retired from the Army Im a marital arts instructor for the local police

department. When in Iraq I did kill enemy combatants out of necesscity. It was what I was trained to do and I did it.

Ive been out for about four years now and I still have nightmares about Iraq.

Youve got your act together young man.

    A+ vid.

  • Thank you very much EyeOfArtemis. It's always nice getting confirmation like this from someone who has actually seen the sort of action I can only theorize about.

    Ben

  • That big knife isn't meant to be used as a self defense weapon, it is a bushman's knife. I was wondering how you flip open your pocket knife like that. I would also like to know where you got that knife, the knife I am carrying was 5 dollars, but for a 5 dollar knife..it's pretty durable. I find your video's very interesting, you should make some more like this.

  • The smaller knife I flip open is a CRKT m16 knife. It has a little tab on the blade that lets you flick it open without even trying, its pretty sweet.

Glad you liked the video, I think I am going to start doing some more philosophy stuff.

  • Comment removed

  • im glad you dont carry a knife for non self defence purposes but i live in london peckham which is a pretty tough area. Im 15 and if i was caught by the police with a knife i would face up to 5 years in prison. this doesnt stop people carrying though i have been threatened with knifes and i dont think the answer is to carry one we wont to get knives of the streets not on to them no matter what your reason or intention

  • you got me to buy that book im reading it and its very intresting thanks for the tip

  • i bought it today at barnes and nobles

  • I like your sheepdog theory...

In my family, to reach manhood, we need to kill a dog without showing the slightest sign of remorse and looking it in the eye.

My dad put me up to it in TJ, and I couldn' t

    do it.

  • Dang man that is rough. I think it would be really tough to kill a dog, and near impossible to do so without remorse.

  • Man... why a dog? I mean - come on! If you were supposed to kill a pig or a cow for food - I can understand that. But why a dog? I'd personally kill a pig without remorse, but a dog could be tough because I wouldn't see any point to it. And to kill witout a purpose is just evil.

  • cUase Killing a dog is killing an animal that is closest to a man.

    Its the connection between friends.

Life is a perspective so you can see it one way or another. But yeah i guess it is crude, i can't see myself killing my dog. well if im gonna grow up i will. Just one in mexico. Itll be mercy killing like Ben says

  • good video.ur aversion to harming others is very good and u most definately should not get rid of it no matter where u are. Person, animal, even werewolves and martians lol to cause suffering or harm to any living thing is a grave matter. However the sheepdog must be capable of ripping the wolves to pieces or he is no sheepdog. He would hate to do that but would because it is necessary to defend the flock. If you want to defend other u must develop ur mind, warrior spirit, and will.PEACE LOVE STRENGTH

  • i feel you man.. i feel you

  • Everything is true. What ur saying ^^ this will definatly help me out later if i choose to carry a self-defence weapon ^^

    Thanks -

  • i completely understand what u mean i do carry a knife and used to carry a handgun and i would only use those in a situation where i had no other choice and was pushed to the limit, i would much rather not use them at all than to use then and kill someone, better to end the situation in a nonviolent manner than to end it in a violent manner and have to suffer the repurcussions

  • He is right. From experience I have no problems with hurting anyone to the best of my abilities. Doesn't mean I like to.

  • spectacular video.i feel the same way about big knives.i just can see myself using 1 of them,i hate guns but i would prefer 1 over a knife like that.i only carry a knife to parties or if i know that there is a big possiblilty of a dangerous situation.the knife i bring is about half the length of yours and about 1/4 of the width.ive never had to use it but ive taken it out once.despite the size,it intimidated the other person.u might never use the knife but it does work for scaring off someone

  • I have ~8 years of martial arts experience and I do carry a knife but I would never use it in self defense unless I had no other chouse to live. I totally no where youre coming from I dont know if I could live with my self if I ended someones life.

  • ben love your videos, i shave with a straight but brother please dont bring a knife to a gun fight

  • I must say.....You obviously don't study martial arts, or at least a legit one. Most of them today have quite a lot of anti-firearm related training scenerios and such.

  • lol throw your knife.

in hapkido they make us scale long distances real quick to disarm

  • Hmmm I'm not sure we are understanding eachother. I'm not sure if you were agreeing with me or not, but yes if i had a knife and someone pulled a gun on me...I would indeed consider throwing it at him....but not for the purpose of making it stick in him, but even if he so much as blinks, thats buys me that little split second to offline myself from the firearm, and hopfully closing in on him to physically let him know it probly a bad idea to pull it on me.

  • haha

    yeah i know i know

    just saying buddy

  • Hey, did you say Arkansas State University?

I'm somewhat ashamed to say that I think I could kill someone and not have remorse. I'm not saying I'd take pleasure, but you have to keep the mindframe that this motherfucker would have no problems killing me. If that makes me no better than him, well, that's life....or death.

  • Hi, I realy liked your video. It was very brave to talk about such strongh feelings. It made me think, if everybody took time to think of there reactions to there actions they would probably be less violence in the world.

    Happy New Year

  • i see it must of been hard for u to put this vid up i have watch through the whole thing and i have to say some times i think if i can or not i do use some things when people try to jump me ect (*i live in NYC*) but grate video

  • lmao

i dont want to slit this things throat with this knife lol

    that was kinda funny

yes throwing knifes are a big no no lol

i carry a small blade as well

and i feel you in every aspect of your ideas

    i enjoyed this video

  • Part3: Hope I don't offend just my thoughts. I guess when it comes down to it alot of us should get a big dog LOL! Too much to debate on this. A great video!

  • Part2: Fear/remorse is a problem I feel not only in life/death but even in the street fight no weapons just fighting. A person can have 5 black belts and look awesome in the dojo, but on the street there are many variables. And these great martial artists can loose in the street. Hense this is why some say martial arts don't work which is bull. I guess what I'm saying fighting/killing can go hand in hand either one has to overcome inhibitions though the latter is final and scary.

  • Part 1: This is a very good topic and can be a very long debate. To me the sane person does not want to kill even in defense. This is why there is alot of victims. People even trained when confronted can freeze and this is how they are beaten or killed by an attacker. I feel guity about killing fish when I go fishing LOL! So I don't fish much. But if my life or my loved ones survival depended on my killing an attacker I would do it. It's either them or me/loved ones.

  • In the UK, you cannot carry any weapon.. at all. You'll get arrested if found with one.

  • great video man. Hows are you back in boxing now

  • I'm not quite 100% yet, I can only punch with my left right now. Hopefully the end of january I should be able to punch with my right again!

  • what were the wooden stciks called that you showed after the screamer sticks?

  • Tonfa's

  • escirma =]

  • Very nice video Ben thanks for sharing. Personally i always carry a switch blade similar to the size of yours with me and I'm sure i could kill anyone that would try to harm me or my family. I'm just afraid of using it or flashing it at a wrong time when i am very angry or pissed, in order to scare or attack someone away.

  • same but im a pathothist yet im 16 and carry a boot knife....

  • this was a really good vid man dont take it down. by the way what was that model of the knife that you do carry around? make and model plz ha

  • Well i've gotten such a good response I won't take the video down. I'm really surprised that everyone likes this video.

My knife is the CRKT M16-13, and I have the combo serrated blade, but if I had to do it again I'd get a plain blade. I really like how it has 2 locking mechanisms.

  • I can relate on a lot of levels. I usually hang out at a lot of punk shows, so I am exposed to violence constantly. I've never really had that brutal of a fight, but I've had moments where I've hesitated then looked back thinking, Wow that really pisses me off, I should have done more... But I didn't. I have a certain someone I know, that is similar to be but older. Except he is much more indifferent to human life. It's seems he is more of an eye for two eyes kind of person. People are different

  • Hehe, when I go to punk/metal shows I hang out in back. I was in a mosh pit a couple of times and it was no fun, but I gotta respect the people that jump in there!

  • I hope you keep this video on here. This is something for many people to understand. That's a great book and the book of the 5 rings are wonderful.

You have nailed it on the head for the psychological profile of most people. Intent is the #1 thing most people don't look into when dealing with a life & death situation.

5 stars, favorite, and subscribed. Great video.

I have a pretty colorful background if you want to know more please messange me, I'm available.

    Late,

    Mike

  • Thank you very much Mike, I would love to hear more about your background. Message me anytime!

    Ben

  • Wow! Absolutely great video!!! Favorited and 5*s man. DO NOT REMOVE IT! I loved every single point you covered and I'm going to pick up that book this week. Every single thing you stated I can agree and relate too.

May that squirrel rest in peace

    ~Pete

  • Thank you Pete. I won't be removing this video. I'm surprised at the response I am getting and I am really pleased. I had no idea there were so many people out there that had my same sort of thoughts. It is very comforting.

  • Wow my brother goes to ASU i just strangly came across the vid 0.0

  • Ben glad you made this video, so many people glorify or even justify violence but don't stop to consider the ultimate effect it would have on the students afterward's, legally & mentally. As usual the student is left to carry the can so to speak. i like this mainly due to the fact that most people say run away But if you can't "go to town" on the other person, not good in most cases really.

Once again Ben, thank you very much for this intelligent video sir.

  • Thank you very much taehapgum. I didn't even really go into the legal aspect of the use of force, that could fill another 15 min video all by itself! One of the reasons I like my Krav Maga teacher so much is he stresses a lot of the legal consequences that might be incurred if you use such and such technique in such and such scenario.

  • Impressive video, 5 stars and favorited! But the question is whether it is worth it to carry around knifes at all, not for the sake of cutting sausage that is. I mean chances are that you overreact and stab someone to death just in the panic of self defence. Also if the attacker sees you wielding a knife he may behave more agressively. Just some points to consider.

Excellent job and keep it up!

  • I guess I look at it as its better to have a weapon and not need it, than need a weapon and not have it. Plus I actually use my knife every day for various tasks. When it comes to being a little 'trigger happy' about using it, I think I would be much more willing to punch or kick someone than I would pull my knife on them. It is nice to always have the option of the blade though.

  • first CRKT are very good knifes

second that with animal was very sweet from You trying to help her!

3 I stopped to carry knife an now I carry gel pepper spray that is impossible strong and work even on drugged ppl

4 from all weapons from Your house that were very good choice!! maybe bokken can be to long like for a house defense

5 from other versions at most I have choke out the aggressor but sometimes it was VERY hard to get his back (shoulders)!

    5/5 Stars for Your film

    DO NOT REMOVE IT!!!!!!

  • Yeah I really like my CRKT knife, especially since it has 2 locking mechanisms. I agree the boken I showed is probably too long, but I have some shorter wazakashi style bokens that would probably work well inside.

  • Great video love the bokan i agree with whole heartedly on the matter of using force as a last resort. Lucky for me her in ON Canada knives only have to be under 12 cm in legth for the blade. I don't carry it on my person but i have nice little hunting style knife in the car.

  • Ben just an amazing video 5 stars and favourited . What you just described is being a decent human being and that is a trait you do not want to lose trust me on that . I really enjoyed this video and this is why I am subscribed to you . I will P.M you on my full opinion which I will not post here.

Oh did I say excellent video !!!

  • Yes he have done an excellent job, he should not remove this film!

  • Thank you very much for your comment and your PM!

  • Hey Ben this is a great video and something people should really watch. I consider myself a sheep dog I have some basic combat skills but luckily never had to use it. Thinking on the topic numerous times before I was able to justify using deadly force for myself when the line came down to me or someone innocent will lose there life to someone that has lost care for human life, once I determined I would have to end this persons life I would do so as humane as possible. That's how I feel on it.

  • Thats sort of how the samurai viewed it. They thought it was dishonorable to slash at the limbs of a person, even if that would have been the most effective technique. Instead they always tried to kill with one stroke or one stab. Not all samurai were like this of course, but that was the idea.

  • If i got into a fight and i didn't black out i doubt that i could bring myself to hitting someone for fear of hurting them in the short term or long term. Usually when people try to start shit with me now i try to control their hands and put them on the ground or "pin" them as fast as i can.

Well that's all i have to say about that hahaha

  • I feel the same way, although i'm not nearly as big as you are. I'm lucky that I can usually talk my way out of most confrontations.

  • Haha though i'm quite large i still make an effort to talk my way out of situations as well. No need for violence when it can be avoided.

  • I have been in a few fights, mostly in junior high because little shits think they can talk shit to bigger people and get away with it. I am the kind of person that will take words but if you strike me i tend to black out and attempt to kill you. I really try to avoid getting into fights now because of that whole "black out, search and destroy" tendency i seem to have. I'm 6'5" and 270lbs currently and i know i could really do damage to people.

  • Also when i'd play around with my friends rifle, i would be able to hit the targets really cleanly and again accurately. Some of my family was in the war that took place in Bosna and from what i've been told it was more about avoiding death then it was killing people.

Like i said before, when i was younger i wanted to grow up to be a sniper in the army but as i've grown and matured, i really really don't believe i could take the shot if i was in that sort of situation.

  • Hey Ben, i really enjoyed the video and have to say i really agree with you.

When i was younger i played a lot of war games and the sniper or the marksman was always my favorite character to be. I found that i was also always really good with that character class. At arcades and such they have big game hunt and all that junk i would always be able to shoot the deer or the elk or what have you in the heart on my first shot.

  • I use either a Pentagon Elite I by SOG or the Flash II also by SOG. Those are the only two that I own at the moment that I realistically can carry without drawing attention and, sof makes a great knife. I would recommend several of their knives if you were looking for a second reliable knife.
