  • Lying yellow bastard!

  • omg my family always says this & i randomly asked why they say that & they told me it was because of this commercial that used to be on all the time. haha wow.

  • isnt that terri from 3's company?

  • i remember this!

  • This commercial ran for more than 20 years. Never saw any of the players thereafter. They didn't have to work! All three must have made a small fourtune in residuals!

  • Oh yes, let's not forget the announcer---lucky guy, all he had to say were just nine words, and the money rolled in for years!

  • WAYNE'S WORLD!

  • Ah so!

  • Foolish woman, you did not measure and pour into the bottom before adding the clothes.

  • You have to wonder how many chinese people bought Calgon

  • I love how she free-pours the detergent. Why bother measuring? Heh.

  • woman know their role back then. Nowadays they caused the recession

  • @TheSkuLLcomedyShow The actress playing Mrs. Lee was actually a Japanese American named Anne Miyamoto..

  • Wow. An asian dry cleaner named Mr. Lee. Talk about phoning it in.....

  • The glorious 21st century where Chinese still refer to whites as Gweilo. We've moved on at least.

  • the Canadian version would be "ancient Chinese secret, eh??"

  • How did they get away with saying such things?

  • 30% cleaner than...what?

  • Awww the glorious 70's.... when white people thought Japanese people (and any others of asian decent) were Chinese!

  • I once heard this joke: A Jewish guy was in Hong Kong. He started giving a guy a bunch of crap about Pearl Harbor. The 2nd guy said, "Wait a minute. The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. I'm Chinese!" The Jew said, "Chinese, Japanese, they're all the same to me!" The Chinese guy then said, "What about when the Jewish sank the Titanic?" The Jew said, "How did the Jewish sink the Titanic? It was sank by an iceberg!" The Chinese guy said, "Iceberg, Goldberg, they're all the same to me!"

  • @OldsVistaCruiser FABulous.

  • I remember when Jackie Chan did this on SNL. "You tell anyone, I kill you!"

  • Ancient Chinese secret ... XD!

  • This is one of the first commercials I ever remember vividly.

The lady with the "Detergent" and Calgon. The "Detergent" had some funny ingredients, too. lol

  • What cracks me up is that they showed this ad for so long (until at least the mid 80s) that the film colors started to look washed out and faded! (No pun intended.................)

  • Ahhh the original! FYI - the actors in this ad posted comments in one off the other Calgon videosa while back - if it is still up.

  • great to see the orig ad & not the "new improved" version.grew up w this one&the other made me feel that something was not right in the universe. :)

  • yeah, I saw the "new and improved" version first, and was very disappointed. It didn't have the same energy.

I wanted to see the wife make the crazy eyes when she says 'Calgon!"

  • LOL! when it ain't broke, don't fix it! :)

  • love it and haven't seen since 1978 or 1979. looking for "SILIKENCE" COMMERICIAL with asian model with long beautiful black hair and Jeane te' commercial.

  • @bingbong35

LOL, do a search for "jean nate commercial" and you will get your wish...

  • @bethpedone Ok, I will lol! I remember that too. love all 'em classic late 70's and early 80's commercials I grew up along with-lol

  • One of the most famous "Calgon" commercials, which played for YEARS (eventually with different boxes), and made the phrase "Ancient Chinese Secret" a part of advertising folklore....
