  • johnny marr is god!waiting for a reunion so badly!!!

  • 2:27 the guitarist nearly gets smashed in the head!!!

  • @RichardJames12 Look closer ;-)

  • Great stuff, any chance you might have any footage from the Thank Your Lucky Stars show?

  • Two light ales please !! (and a couple o' grams of skag for Andy !!!) heh heh!!

  • there's a 5th guy? didn't know they played live with an additional guitarist

  • @mircea1910 Craig Gannon played live on Queen Is Dead tour...

  • Life is very long when you're lonely!

  • Life is very long when you're lonely!

  • All throughout my teens, I was surrounded by friends who worshipped the smiths/morrissey so I made it a point to dislike them! lol But, after a while, I began to love them and finally understood what the big deal was! Thanks GambiniUK--these vids are treasures!

  • Life is very long when you're lonely :p. (random guess)

  • Love this song, havent heard a live version until now, its a great video

  • Nobody understands why but this is my favourite track.

    Never heard ANYTHING like it.

  • I love morrissey!

  • Heaviest song of The Smiths.

  • @ElAullidoDeLaNada This, and "London".

  • At 2:53 I reckon Morrissey was asking Mike if he could smash the 'Queen is Dead' sign on the drum-kit.

  • The Smiths (Morrissey mainly) always had such an eye for drama.

  • Been listening to this since the wedding started...

  • F*CKING HAVE IT!!!!

  • After years of listening to this live album this is the first time i've seen actual footage of it. Thank you so much. I'm in a state of wonderment!

  • @jonnywotsit ....try & get the out-takes....how soon is now, there is a light & frankly mr shankly, they're amazing

  • jackers

  • @whoashellfish : So why do you see that?

  • I wonder why he hasn't been Knighted?

  • This is brilliant. Thanks so much. But if you look at Gannon and Rourke in isolation, you'd swear your looking at Guigsy and the bald one from Oasis. They're just plodding. But the others reek of charisma, passion, and sexy madness. And Rourke is great on bass.

  • by golly those were the days ;)

  • ...Jesus christ...how fucking cool does he look!

  • queen still aint dead and its fuckin 2010!

  • Gambinuk thank you so much i feel like a kid again was at this gig it brings back happy days THANK YOU SO MUCH X

  • To this day, nothing can touch this band. Incredible.

  • she said I know you and you and you cannot sing, I said that`s nothing you shoild hear me play piano

  • johnny marr is so coooool!

  • Kudos for that!! since 91 I saw Moz over 30 times but never got to catch The Smiths.

    I still have hope though...

  • the queen is dead is one of the more amazing smith's songs. This live concert video is wounderfull. It is a great example of the musical strength of the smiths. Marr and Gannon are very muscular music wise here. Mike Joyce is at his best and the passion in Morrissey's words goes without saying. The only problem is the opening to the rank concert when Morriessey first comes out before the first song and says "hello". Its a classic line. I can not find the opening to this concert anywhere.

  • That's some SHIT HOT drumming from Mike!

  • Johnny Marr!

  • I worked for the beeb and got tickets for the smudgers with the fall supporting at the RAH - for about 2 quid each circa 1986. Marr broke is arm and they cancelled. I got me two quid back - but really regret not seeing the gig. never will now. Still there must be worse things in life, like having yer beep beeps attached to electrodes and then being flayed sensless with a knotted rope - oooh matron! etc.

  • I am amazed by these videos you have uploaded, I guess you (or someone else) video taped it and later add the sound of CD or LP?

It seems like the sound is a bit better than the steady cam. Hehe.

  • :-) The sound is from the digital radio rebroadcast of the original BBC In Concert show.

  • I see.

This a great piece of Smiths memorabilia you got here. Thank you for sharing.

  • @GambiniUK Is that where they got "Rank" from??

  • @GambiniUK Where's the video footage from? BTW, thanks :)

  • @GambiniUK thanks for uploading these

  • brilliant, how fitting the national kilburn, the real capital of ireland

  • @grass1963 haha so it is i never actually considered the significance

  • this gig shows the smiths at the peak of their powers. shit hot drumming from mike joyce on this.

  • Does anyone have the London Palladium performance from the same tour? 23 years on and still one of the greatest gigs I ever saw.

  • peerless brilliance

  • This is the video which sums up the Smiths punk ideology. I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!!

  • get well soon, Mr . Moz!!!!

  • Dear Morrissey didn't seem the strongest lad at that time. I was thinking he was gonna drop the sign!! GOD BLESS THE SMITHS

  • Wow... I think it's their most rock-ish performance: Marr, almost dancing with the guitar, and Morrissey, wearing sunglasses and holding signs... Who knows in what direction they would've gone if they hadn't broke up...

Awesome song. The rare happy (or, at least - funny and not serious) side of the Smiths.

  • Humour is present in practically all of Morrissey's lyrics.

  • How about Asleep? Isn't very funny to me.

  • Indeed, got to admit that Asleep isn't funny in any way and indeed heartbreakingly painful. Probably one of the saddest songs ever written...

But admit it, even "I know it's over" has subtle humour. "And you even spoke to me" is hilarious and sad at the same time :)

  • Just think of all the great lyrics that Morrissey wrote post-Smiths. Now imagine Johnnie Marr writing the music for them....if only they would stayed together. Interesting Drug, Piccadilly Palore, Suedehead, Sea Sick Yet Still Docked. All could have been embellished with Smithdom.

I cant sleep some nights, thinking of this tragedy.

  • Because it's got to the point where he's obviously not miserable...and it's just an image thing to sell music

Unless you were kidding, I apologise, sarcasm doesn't carry well on the internet.

  • The best band the world has ever seen, and without doubt the most loyal fanbase ever. I feel so great being a Smiths fan, anyone who has listened and loved this band will tell you that they have and will do until they die.

  • @matteo12121 We're a very special little club mate. The music a person listens to says a lot about the person they are, and anyone who loves the smiths and appreciates their lyrics is a deep person with good taste.

  • @matteo12121 YOU STILL DON'T KNOW HOW RIGHT YOU ARE, MATE!!!!!!!! YOU JUST CAN'T REALIZE IT, YET!!!!!!! THE SMITHS ARE MY BEST FRIENDS FOR EVER!!!!!!!!!

  • "that's nothing you should hear me play piano..."

  • so i broke into the palace with a sponge and a rusty spanner lol

  • no the best line is "her verry lowness with her head in a sling, im trully sorry but it sounds like a wonderfl thing"

  • What about 'Charles don't you ever crave to appear on the front of the Daily Mail, dressed in your mother's bridal veil'?

    Makes me laugh every time.

  • "The queen is dead boys, and it's so lonely on a limb" makes me shiver.

  • the lyrics and especially the guitar riffs in this song are insane,,amazing the energy marr take out of the guitar,,the riff just blazes along ..awesome..one of my fave smiths songs,,what she said is love too..

  • It was £6.50 or £4.50 if you were a doleite or student!!Wolverhampton Civic Hall October 1986!!!

  • truly awsome!!!

  • Superb stuff, love all these rank videos thanks so much for uploading! Im 30 and only started listening to the smiths a year or so ago, cant beleive it took me so long! They are greatest band of any era bar none, every song almost is a fucking masterpeice, thank god 4 the smiths!

  • Awesome song, awesome version and nice footage!

  • This is great. This was one of the best gigs I saw The Smiths do... still got the ticket somewhere... think it cost me £5.50... brilliant

  • That's pretty good going!

You're American, and you saw the Smiths in London, when you were 6 years old!

That's assuming that the age and location on your YouTube accout is correct.

  • @TheSmiths12345

I understand your scepticism but, my account information was indeed incorrect... I am not American and my age is 45 and I have lived in London all my life. This gig was at the Kilburn National ballroom (now closed as a venue) and I also saw then at the Palladium a few days later. Still a big Morrissey fan, but my quiff is long gone!

  • Made me cry, PERFECT.

  • I had this on cassette when I was 12 and wore it out from listing to it so much,I've always wondered what it LOOKED like. This is Outstanding!!

  • brilliant

  • Where did you find this footage...this is phenominal

  • I want to know this as well. This is mind blowing!

  • Thanks. Excellent.
