antartica to cape town(south africa)...damm is a 10 hours trip...from sub-cero to very hot .....this fly is little longer than from argentina to canada
I thoroughly enjoyed this series! I felt as though I was there in the cockpit. It is obvious that the flight crew is highly trained, professional, and they enjoy what they do. Serious business to fly such a massive aircraft, and the crew are calm and collected throughout. Thanks for the experience!
@rebel9568 There aren't, just scientific research stations. But the flights to those research stations are only for scientists & support personnel. This flight was for tourists who camped in Antarctica. There's only two companies that offer such flights, as there are only a couple hundred tourists a year who head to the interior (not those on cruises who might make 1 or 2 landings on shore). You can learn more about this flight antarctic-company (period c o m, since I can't post a url)
Thanks for posting this. Back in January 1993 I met an IL-76 crew and they kindly invited me to view their aircraft. It was certainly an interesting piece of kit !
IL-76 may be old, but that doesn't mean it's rubbish. If it's used extensively throughout the world, that must mean something. The RAF still use Tristars that are at least thirty years old because they are solid, reliable and versatile aircraft.
Very nice and interesting. Funny to see good old even ancient russian equipment in contrast with some modern western digital devices. Thank you for sharing.

Great Video of a great aircraft !! Loved every bit of it. Especially the brief kind of 'Walkaround' at the end. Great little touch.

Testament to their durability that there are so many ancient Russian-built aircraft still flying, even if they are a bit outdated now.
spider23000 2 years ago 23
@spider23000 ancient? LOL USA is using them btw.
fcbcdl 1 year ago
@fcbcdl I know the USA is using them. They have a fleet of 4 or 5 which are used for firefighting duties. What does that have to do with their age?
spider23000 1 year ago
@spider23000 il -76 might be ancient, but still usefull in many ways.

@fcbcdl Yes I know - it's the point I was making in my original post......

I'm definately not a fan of russian aircraft, but they are interesting nevertheless. The engine noises as thrust adjustments are made are cool.

The Russians have made some of the most interesting aircraft, and this is a fine example of that. Thanks for the video!
