  • Today Police arrested Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Keith Moon after being caught releasing all the German Shepards and Doberman Pinches from the K-9 squad unit. The Police can now confirm it was The Who that let the dogs out.

  • I love this group TvT

  • for some reason i am obsessed with this song

  • @Sludge9509 -- yeah this one of my favs, i think it's the random talking

  • Great and tragic love song.

  • One of the few Who songs that features John Entwistle AND Roger Daltrey singing separate sections of this wonderful, clever song.

  • @barrympls I'm gonna have to call you on that one about Entwhistle. I believe that's Kieth singing with the weird voice-- listen to Bell Boy again and I think you might agree. Perhaps I'm wrong. Do you know something I don't?

  • @ngiyaxolisa

I think it's Entwhistle. Same voice as Boris the Spider and Sumertime blues...

  • @DeKleikop I don't mean the "Boris" voice- I agree, that's Entwhistle. I mean the one at the end "Where's me wage packet...". Well, he's not actually singing, but that's definitely Moon.

  • @ngiyaxolisa I hear that in this song sing Roger, Pete and John, depend of the part.

  • Lovely buttocks!

  • Epic & underrated tune on so many levels

  • Criminally underated. The band hated it but personally, I LOVE it. Captures the mood of the time.

  • Criminally underated.

  • Dodgy - In A Room. Rip off!

  • Until now, I thought the lyric was "fear" instead of "beer." Song makes more sense now, although doesn't seem to have much profundity anymore....

  • Roger hated this song.

  • Sounds like the comedy songs The Small Faces were recording in 1968

  • 25 knick apiece on Gallop Printer

  • Love this tune ever since I heard it on a bootleg in the 70s. Considering one of their tours was sponsored by a beer company I'm suprised they didn't use this tune considering the chorus.

  • this song gave me chills...reminding me of good old days in the hippie times :)

  • Such a beautiful song and so well crafted

  • Pete thought this song would be the biggest single since "The Twist". I believe thier record company stepped in and flipped the U.S. version of this single, by putting "Call me Lightning" on the "A" side and relagated "Dogs" as the "B" side. "Call Me Lightning" made it to #40 in the U.S., fwiw. "Dogs" bombed in the U.K.

  • whoah........sounds nothing like the who at all

  • @Bobsmellslikeyourmom - this is the Who as we know and love them - a 60s band - who do you think it sounds like?

  • It's amazing how little you hear of this, one of the many lost Who singles.

  • This is so different from their other songs! this song makes me want to laugh, cry, and sing at the same time!

  • I still sing this song to myself, I'm an old c**t now, but the White City was the game.

  • A great WHO track, dig Keith Moon at the end. Another great track you don't hear very often is Tattoo...

  • The Who disowned this song due to its obvious Small Faces rip-off element. Fun tune nonetheless.

  • It's strange how the band themselves seem to like to pretend this song never existed. I like it better than Happy Jack, more tuneful. I love how John speaks in his growl voice in the second verse which kicks the song into true goofiness. It's the sort of thing that leaves "classic rock" fans scratching their heads. Released around the same time as the Small Faces "Lazy Sunday". Similar feel.

  • RIGHT, where's me wage packet ?????,

Ah I'll put twenty-five knicker please on YELLOW PRINTER,

Oh, I hope the wife don't find out,

Yes, it's sure to win, isn't it,

Yes, I know, it's a good dog, I saw it run at White City,

Just last week, broke the record, YELLOW PRINTER,

Nice dog, yes, lovely form, lovely buttocks

  • I bought this on a Who 'rare tracks' cassette back in the late 1980s and don't think I've heard it since. Never EVER EVER EVER heard it on the radio.

    thanks, IDEKM.

  • bella bella bella bella bella bella bella bella e moderna.......forse loro l'hanno sottovalutata perchè più pop delle altre o forse perchè considerata "leggera"?

  • this isn't the Dogs single I have....I have never heard this though and I thought I had heard all The Who there is. Thanks for posting.

  • "Yes, it's you little darling. Yes, it's you little darling. Now it's you........"

    Very very favorite song.

    And I love The Who!!

  • "There was nothing in my life bigger than beer, 'ceptin' you, little darling"

  • This is a parody of the Small Faces, you know.

  • I just heard this song now it it a great song. Hard to believe this wasn't a commercial success. Is it true that keith moon sings backing vocals on this song?

  • For certain this was not recorded in 1966 yellow printer was a puppy then but as a ordinary London guy been there done that

  • You can hear early punk in this

  • @knuckle9 of all the songs it's this one lol

  • sounds like something that would inspire the great Clash.

  • Who version is basically just at copy of Townshend's demo version...

  • This song is brilliant.

It has aged very well (unlike most of the 60ies stuff), and this sounds fresh even today.

    Exelent.

  • Daft record; but still one of my favourite Oooo songs.

    What a band!

  • @wolverine37x I don't think it's daft at all; I love it! To each his own, but I think it's a great, fun song. A departure from their usual sound.

  • This appeared on the compilation "30 Years of Maximum Rock 'n Roll". An amazing song which went bust as a single. It's hard to imagine Pete being surprised at this song's commercial failure, but reportedly he was devastated. Personally this is one of my favorite who tracks. It reminds me of a Wallace & Gromit episode. I love the mixture of silliness and majesty. It's a keeper!

  • Today is Townshend's birthday 5/19/09

Thanks Townshend for your weird (but brilliant) genius. Like who else but Townshend can think up songs like this and then write songs like "Love Reign O'er Me"

  • tyburn, the who are great - i saw them int their prime twice. however not even the who think they're in the same league as the beatles. entwhistle - quote, "the beatles were always 2-5 years ahead of us and everyone else."

  • What do you think the chances are of them ever playing this live again?

  • As Dean Wormer says...ZERO POINT ZERO.

  • Here is Townshends demo

  • Thanks a million for posting this. I've been after this track on cd for years but the only one i've seen it on is 'Rarities' vol.1&2 an import from Japan but it's around 26 quid which is a lot of dosh for one track. I see someone has kindly uploaded Dogs pt.2 as well. Another great Who track. Thanks guys.

  • this was the song for me which prove The Who were miles better than The Beatles. the harmonies, keith miles better than ringo. pete better than george, roger a much better vocalist than john, and entwistle in a completely different league to mccartney

  • keith miles??!!?! that would be keith moon! lol

  • He's saying that Moon was "miles" ahead of Ringo.

  • ohhhh gotcha. my bad

  • Brilliant - This was one of my favourite Who songs of the period - the best live band EVER - Fantastic Days

  • You were nt allowed to change direction in the sixties.Daltrey sounds like Tommy Steel."I ll have twenty five nicker on yellow sprinter"

  • this is a underrated who song!

  • That was... interesting =)

Seriously, what is this song about, why is Daltrey singing with a Cockney accent and why is the chorus "There is nothing in my life bigger than beer"?

Liked it, but still what is going on?

  • it's about the English working-classes and their enjoyment of Dog Racing.

  • hahaha i think keith moon wrote this song because it doesnt sound like something any of the other 3 would write

  • woof woof

  • i think i was the last person to watch this before it was deleted

  • Pigging great song.

  • Where can i find Part II?

  • Dogs Part 2 was the "B" side of Pinball Wizard. It's an instrumental with some fine guitar work from Pete and lots of "rhythmic" dog barks.

  • it's also on disc 2 of the deluxe edition of tommy

  • 2:20-2:25

Look at what alcoholism does to a man. Sad to see Keith in that kinda of state, compared to his pic on the right when he was real young.

  • If it's true that The Who ever embarrassed by this song, why I will never know.

    Love it!

  • where the bloody hell can I get this track on cd . I've had it on a double album for donkeys years , but can't seem to be able to replace it. help

  • It's on the Who's 30 Years of Maximum R&B four disc set.

  • Lovely buttocks!

  • awesome pics

  • great song and good pics :D

  • it's the duke's dog innit!

  • Thank you so much for posting this song. I've been dying to listen to these tunes in youtube for so long....

    LoNG LiVe RoCK!!!!!!!!!!
