The interesting thing about the dog barking analogy is that it isn't in fact natural at all for a dog to bark; in the wild wolves howl but don't bark - humans brought about dogs barking. Dogs needed to find a way to get attention. So Shakira's analogy is therefore a terrible one!

If you search for "It's only a theory series 1 episode 8" you will find the episode where I got that info from, but unfortunately the part we are referring to isn't shown and I can't find the whole episode anywhere else on the Internet. He tells how humans caused dogs to bark throughout their time in captivity and his case makes complete sense. It's a shame not to find the episode anywhere on the net

Well, the name of the series may be a good indicator of how accurate the information is:

Domestic dogs are more prone to bark because there are more fear stressors in their life: doorbells, car horns, four walls impeding their vision but all dogs bark, even feral and wild dogs that have never been in contact with humans (Byronson and Myers 1998).

Regardless, wolves and dogs are still seperate species and in no way reflect on the behaviors of one another.
