@bzcrouse92 Your grammar is impeccable. Also I think they sounded "right" before they had Pridgen on the drums, and now that they have Deantoni they still sound "right"
@trenken his drumming is remarkably tight and I think your confusing technical proficiency with taste. Theodore and Pridgen had vastly different styles. Also, I'm sure he dicks on your drumming so stop the "I'm a drummer, I know" bullshit. Because I'm a drummer... and I know.
Listen to that lazy ass fill at 2:57 and tell me you think this guy is great. He has some pretty interesting simple beats, but his fill work is shit. Any good drummer would recognize this.
@trenken Deantoni is sick. Just because he doesn't play how you would expect a "good drummer" to play doesn't mean he isn't amazing. Your concept of music is majorly up tight, man.
@pjustusxi In this topic we defend sloppy drummers because the band I like could not find one as good as the previous guy. Nice. You could put my 3 year old son back there and I swear some of you idiots would find a reason why he was good.
@trenken The previous guy didn't know how to play with restraint. I have played drums for 14 years. My favorite drummers are Paul Motian, Jack DeJohnette, and Tony Williams (before he switched to the big set). Who are yours?
Deantoni's been in the band before, for what it's worth. I doubt he was all they could find. I'd been hoping for years that he'd play with them again.
@pjustusxi I have heard them. It's just electronica shit, and he constantly does that annoying stop/start bullshit he's been doing in the new volta songs, I cant stand that style. Pridgen is not my favorite drummer, I just think he's significantly better than Parks. My all time fav would have to be Neil Peart due to his very creative and appropriate fill work. Unlike Parks, his fills have great flow to them, they dont feel shoehorned into what he's doing.
They sound like they're kind of doing a straight forward rock thing now. It's not even really hard rock and definitely nothing prog about this at all.
@kalvo17 This is TMV genius. They arent allowed to tour under the TMV name right now because they dont own it, but this is TMV playing new songs from their upcoming album.
@elporto He's actually sloppy at times and often has timing issues. He does some interesting things, but I can name a hell of lot more drummers that are a lot better than him, 2 of which already played in this band.
@yomeportobien its all on purpose. there's no such thing as anything "wrong" in music, especially if you know complex music theory, u find out its all just words to explain everything you can do with sound. i find it amazing he was able to pull off such a polyrhythm during the time u mentioned. (not that it matters, the mars volta sound complex but they don't know shit about music theory, at least not omar, who writes all the music)
@canthinkverywell it was just what it seems to me, a point of view, an opinion, whatever you wanna call it. thanx for replying with respect and for not been an *sshole
@yomeportobien when u say "messed up" it implies he did something he didn't mean to, like he clashed with the other sounds accidentally rather than on purpose. and i can't tell if the last sentence was meant to be sarcastic or not, i'm not trying to be an anus i'm just stating facts for educational benefit
@canthinkverywell it was not sarcastic at all. that's what i meen when i say "messed up", it think he lost the pulse or something. maybe i'm wrong, that's what i hear
@KxKWarriorV Rumours have been a spreadin that they're playing new volta material under the ORL name because of copyright issues with warner Bros. so until the album comes out. Also Ikeys not there and it's not really The Mars Volta without Ikey
drummers one bad mofu

@trenken Are you kidding me? Even John Bonham played things like this sometimes. Are you going to say he was sloppy?
