Rediscovered this gem on Youtube. I can listen to this all day, this music is so breathtaking beautiful. Plug in your earphones, close your eyes and give yourself over to this.
Just heard this last night in Carnegie Hall. It was played by the Distinguished Concerts Singers and Orchestra International. The composer was also present and gave a brief introduction to his work....
@skvettlapper It has *nothing* to do with Enya. It is an original work composed by KARL JENKINS. There is an earlier version done by Jenkin's group "Adeimus", but Enya was not even remotely involved.
Having been impressed by his Dies Irae from the Requiem, I find the Stabat Mater just too cheesy. The style of the music just doesn't match the depth of the text.
I bought this cd the day it was released, flew with my family to the middle-east the day afetr and played it full blast on the car cd player with the windows down to drown out the racket of the mosques in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, April 2008! Superb!!
My choir, The Metropolitan Detroit Chorale, is doing the Midwest Premiere of the full Stabat Mater sunday May 4th, in Fraser Highschool's redone auditorium. Tickets are 15 dollars. It is beinging accompanied by a full orchestra. Come experiance the magic.
Wonderful, reminds me Cantus song of Tears:) I have been there in Liverpool Cathedral ... one of the biggest Cathedrals of the World...must have been stunning performance!!!

Karl Jenkins is well good at making stuff sound shit and unprofessional.

This is none other than the harmonic language of Enya made palatable for symphony orchestra, large choirs and churches!

I have to confess I just don't 'get' Karl Jenkins. For a few seconds it sounds great, then I just get bored with it keeping repeating itself.

@ibchowarth
you just have to listen to the music good enough and you will recognize so many things that make the music exciting.

@ibchowarth
repeating each part is something that's typical for jenkins.
because it sounds a little like the minimal music but in fact it keeps changing everytime just a little bit.

Even when he recycles his music, it is awesome
