  • which album are these songs on? i love these versions!

  • Og jólasveinar einn og átta eru sungnir við lagið Oh my darling clementine.

  • Sæl!! Is that Dimmuborgir at 0:07...?

  • @warszawianka They are icelandic santa's or yule lads

  • the picture on 0:27 is in my hometown in iceland, Bíldudalur haha :D

the little girl at the stage is my little cousin :)

  • Oh dear, I remember this song from my Childhood.

    The memories..

  • Vá, manni hlýnar bara við þessar ísköldu hjartarætur þegar maður heyrir þetta ^_^

  • wow dude. þetta eru gömul lög (english Translation) these are old songs

  • aah vá minningar úr skólanum þegar maður var lítill pjakki!

  • Hahaha

Ég syng jólalög á sumrin, og syng 17 júní um jólin..

    ÉG LÝG EKKI!

  • I don't live in Iceland now but i love it there. It is kinda funny to play Icelandic Christmas songs for the people were i live i have the best Christmas spirit while they don't find them Christmas like at all. lol

  • i'm sorry to but watta ???

where is the christmass spirit, these songs have like no theame, you can't reconnise it as a crismassongs if you hear it without voicees.

  • hahaha I guess you werent raised with these songs in your childhood.

These songs are usually sung in a group around the christmas tree with no music at all, or maybe a piano play if they have one. Sometimes the santas bring accordions.

It's very fun and very traditional here to go to a yule party where there are yule lads(santas) and hold hands in a circle around the tree and sing these songs, when I hear them I remember those parties and feel kind of sentimental ;)

  • My point is, this version of the songs were never supposed to have lots of music behind them, mostly just a group singing. That's how I personally think most of us remember them, with an exception of maybe if singers wanted to record it differently.

  • These songs have been played for us since we were toddlers,

and it's kindof just traditional christmas songs in Iceland, so we don't expect anyone to understand them.

  • í stuttu máli: Jólalagasyrpur eru vond jólatónlist

  • Þín skoðun, ekki mín. :)

  • Svona jóla-teknó er hugsanlega ein versta nauðgun á íslenskri jólamenningu sem ég get hugsað mér..

  • hi! i´m looking for the song "jólasveinar ganga um gólf", that traditional song you can hear in the middle of this one! where can i download it?

  • I'm not sure u can download it, it's pretty hard to download Icelandic music online for free.

  • jeiii íslensk jólalög! vantar meira af þeim hérna á youtube :]

  • hjartanlega sammála ;)

  • oooooooooooooh maður, þetta er æðiii.

    er í svo miklu jólastuði

  • Hey ég sá þetta var addað í maí! hvernig datt þér í hug að setja þetta inná þá? =P

  • do any other Icelandic-Americans keep this tradition going? my family has

  • what tradition, walking around the christmas tree? the yule lads? Yuletide? advent?

    I'm curious lol

if youre asking if I'm icelandic-american, I'm not though.. I havent even been to USA lol but I know you might be asking other people reading this .... just wondering.. :)

  • I am not an Icelandic American by birth, but I lived there for a few years, when I was 19-21. I have many Icelandic traditions which I do with my wife and kids. We have a calender with the Jólasveinir or yule lads. We sing several Icelandic carols and I like to listen to Rók og Jól. Nei, nei ekki um Jólin... Christmas in Iceland is great, but New years is way better than in the USA.

  • Flott maður! haha næs

  • Jólin =) en gaman :þ

  • you brought it back, your awesome!!

  • Oooh, I love Icelandic, this is great :)

  • very beatiful

  • really neat!

  • I just wanna say that these santas that wear red, they are actually Yule Lads, there are 13 of them and they are sons of the ogress Gryla and her man Leppaludi. Apparently they have taken a liking to the way Mr. Claus dresses and behaves.. lol, because the ones in old clothing with short beards are the original ones.. and they used to be quite some rascals who were used to threaten kids, but now are jolly men who kids look forward to meet

  • so they are not related to Santa Claus in any way.. just have had some influence from him... they all have names that describe their main rascally characteristic ,The Sheep Worrier, Gully Gawk, Stubby,Spoon Licker,Pot Licker, Bowl Licker, Door slammer, Skyr Glutton, Sausage Stealer, Window Peeper, Door Sniffer, Meat Hook and Candle Beggar

  • They were used to threaten kids in very ooold days, because then they had the same habit as their mother, dining on children who misbehave.. but now they give children gifts and sing and dance with them, but the ones who misbehave dont get a gift in the shoe, they get a potatoe, yes, in the shoe, they come from the mountains one by one starting 13 days before christmas, and each one gives every child something in a shoe the children have placed in their window.

  • i read that they did that in a book about the Yule Lads written by Brian Pilkington, published by Mál og Menning. Parents threatened with the yule lads too.. but that is a loooooonnnggg gone habit.... now its only Grýla and the Yule cat that still have this craving, but they are often said to be starving because children are behaving so well and get new clothes often :) hehe (Yule Cat goes after kids who havent gotten a new piece of clothing before christmas)
