I'm sure he at this point was listening deeply to tal farlow barney kessel and wes montgomery...his chord progression around 39 secs in is proof that he was pretty advanced for his time...that stromberg guitar with the charlie christian pickup is pretty nice too.
I totally agree with tonyguitarned. Back in the 60's One of the first jazz guitar records I ever heard was "Jazz Winds from a new direction", and to this day, it remains one of the greatest.
If you want to hear what a record sounds like with a great vocalist backed by a great guitarist doing a great song, listen to "Little Sister." You'll hear the gentleman featured here in fine form.
True, Hank Garland has a very unique gift of playing a very beautiful sounds of a jazz guitar. I've listened to his jazz record of "Autumn Leaves" playing it solo since I was 8 and I loved every sound of it. His jazz style is far very different from other jazz players I know of and he is very fast too. But sadly its not enough of his music around I wished I can find more to listen to like Les Paul.
Was Hank your Dad? He was a legendary guitar player as you well know. Just dropping a line to let you know he is STILL appreciated by the "in the know" players.
A local jazz guitar legend here told me about meeting what must be an aunt of yours several years ago. She came to his gigs near the airport and kept telling him that her brother had a guitar just like his Gibson Super 400. He thought she was nuts until he asked her what the brother's name was. If I remember the story right they later met and became friends. After he passed away another late jazz player, George Pritchett, asked him if he wanted to buy some of his guitars.
The relatives I have in Milwaukee are from my Mother's side of the family. I remember the name George Prichett from when Mom, Dad, my sister & I lived in Milwaukee after Dad's accident. If I remember right, he was one of those people who wanted Dad's guitars but Mom wouldn't let go of any of them. Do you live in the Milwaukee area? Send me your email address and we'll talk further.
Thank you for your comment. Dad would have appreciated that comment but was humble enough not to believe it. He was such a good man and I miss him so much everyday.
Hank owned Eddie.

There needs to be a video of Hank just playing the Hank Garland Stomp

Eddy Arnold is probably playing a D-18 Martin. It doesn't appear to be the D-28 to me. Garland usually played a Gibson, I believe.

@handy335 Garland is playing a Stromberg, hand made in Boston.

Hank...a Master. If you mention George and Milwaukee, you have to talk about Don Momblow, a legend in his own right.
